What is IAS?
The IAS stands for Indian Administrative Service. It’s also known as the Indian Civil Service (ICS). IAS Test Pattern Explained:

IAS officer Responsibilities
In general, the IAS officer is in charge of maintaining law and order, revenue administration, and general administration in the area under his jurisdiction.
When you become an IAS Officer, you will be responsible for the following responsibilities: –
1. Government Relations
You will be in charge of the majority of government affairs; you will work on policy implementation with the minister’s approval, farming, and so on.
You must implement the policies, supervise them, and be present in all locations where the policies have been implemented.
As an officer, you will also have the authority to testify before state legislatures and the parliament in the event of any irregularities in the area under your jurisdiction.
2. Strength
Once in this position, you will have the authority to oversee the entire development work of the area under your control. You will also have the authority to ensure that the law and order are upheld at all times. Following this level, you will be assigned as a district magistrate or deputy officer as an IAS officer. You will have significant responsibilities here, as well as the authority to implement programmers that will propel the district you are in charge of to greater development.
You could also work as a state secretariat official or as the head of a Public Sector Unit.
3. Possession of authority

Age Limit Permitted
To take the UPSC IAS Exam, you must be at least 18 years old.
Eligibility for the IAS Exam
To take the IAS Exam, you must be at least 21 years old. This means that the candidate must be at least 21 years old on August 1st of the year in which the exam is taking place. For example, if a candidate is taking the prelims in 2022, he or she must be at least 21 years old by August 1, 2022.
The upper age limit is likewise determined on August 1st. This means that if a candidate is taking the prelims in 2022, he or she must be under the maximum restriction by August 1, 2022. The upper age limit is set differently for various groups, as shown below.
The General category has a maximum age limit of 32 years.
OBC has a maximum age limit of 35 years.
SC/ST has a maximum age of 37 years.
Defense Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and freed as a result of those operations have a maximum age limit of 35 years.
Ex-servicemen, including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have served for at least five years in the military, have a maximum age of 37 years.
IAS Officers Get IAS Salary and Other Benefits
The basic pay of IAS officers is Rs. 56,100/-, according to the 7th Central Pay Commission. Furthermore, the compensation of cabinet secretary, the highest rank an IAS officer can hold, is currently 2.5 lakh per month.
