Some words about the panel and its general behavior/conduct: Mine was a stress Interview, so they tried to put me under a lot of stress.

PI Questions:

I greeted all of them individually with a smile, PR told me to sit.

PR: So, Hrishikesh, who is Hrishikesh Mukherjee ?
Me - He is a film director, sir.
PR - Have you seen any of his films ?
Me - No sir.
PR - So, you don't watch many movies, do you ?
Me - No sir.
PR- So what interests you ?
Me - I'm extremely interested in Marketing, I like to read about Hindu Mythology, I like to solve Rubik's cube. Actually I can solve a Rubik's cube within 40 seconds.
PR -
GC - What is a Rubik's cube ?
Me - It's the most famous puzzle of all times invented by Erno Rubik, the first algorithm was derived by a lady named Jasmine Lee ...
GC (Cuts me in between) - So you like algorithms ?
Me - I know the algorithms for a rubik's cube, saaaar, there's a basic layer-by-layer algorithm, there's a ...
GC (Again cuts me in between) - I have NO IDEA about what a rubik's cube is about, tell me how to solve it.
Me - TOLD.
AP - What is the difference between Government and Governance ?
Me - Saaaaaar Government is a system that serves and governs people, Governance is an action.
AP (Cuts) - So shall there be e-government or e-governance ?
Me - E-Governance because ...
AP (Cuts) - But there's e government. Do you know why ?
Me - No saaar I don't.
GC - Tell me, how a living being can affect a product's lifecycle ?
Me - Sir if a living being handles the product well, it will increase its lifecycle and if ...
GC (Cuts) - Can you tell me why did I ask you this question?
Me - Maybe because I was in Product lifecycle management ?
GC -
AP - Why did you leave your job ?
Me - Tried to explain them about my focus and that I didn't want to take any risk n all, but they didn't seem to be convinced.
PR - (Suddenly) There are 2 sides of your brain. Left and right. differentiate between them.
Me - Sir I'm not sure, but I think left side is more analytical and right is more towards emotions and all.
(PR gives me a look and starts reading newspaper)
AP - Differentiate between a product and a service.
Me - TOLD. (Also told him about the 4 Ps and 7 Ps)
GC - There are countries which follow Left hand drive system and there are some countries which follow right hand driving system. Why ?
Me - Sir the systems are already established and if you follow LHD in a country which has RHD, it is difficult to overtake as you can not look ahead quite well and ...
GC (Cuts) - No. Tell me what parameters does a country take into consideration while adopting a system.
Me - Started telling
GC - No. Think and tell. Think for 45 seconds.
Me -
Me - Maybe like sir(PR) said earlier, it might depend on the sides of your brain, but I virtually cannot differentiate between the two.
GC - Think of something else.
Me - Told something about the roads but he wasn't convinced.
Okay. Is there anything you would like to ask us ?
Me - Asked 2-3 questions about Life at XLRI and its logo n all.
GC - What colours do you see in XLRI logo ?
Me - TOLD ! (And also related them with Excellence and Integrity (Motto).

GC, AP, PR - Thank you.
Me - Thank you saaar.

Any other details that you think are relevant: I was a bit nervous already and when they put me under stress, I got more nervous and stuttered a bit.

Your advice for future aspirants: Be Assertive and Confident. They can ask you anything (Read: LHD/RHD). What they want to test is your thinking, more than your knowledge. Best of luck.

GD/GE Topic: "Can FDI solve India's food problem?"
Number of participants: 9(4 were absent)
Duration: Around 20 minutes
Brief snapshot of discussion: Ppl were more concerned with FDI in Retail and cold storage and stuff like that.I tried to present the view that a two pronged approach with FDI in right places plus government reforms are the solution rather than just FDI.Not a fish market and everyone was told to summarize at the end in 30 seconds with 15 seconds for summary of GD and 15 seconds for ur opinion on the topic

About the panel
Panelists Intro: Prof. Prantik Ray (PR), Prof. Ashis Pani (AP) and Prof. Gloryson Chalil (GC)Some words about the panel and its general behavior/conduct: Mine was a stress Interview, so they tried to put me under a lot of stress.

PI Questions:
I greeted all of them individually with a smile, AP told me to sit.GC took the file and told to sign
AP-Is it the first time that u are wearing a suit??
Me-No sir second time...I first wore at the farewell party (Grins all around)

PR: So, you have done schooling till 10th in Kuwait??
Me-Yes

PR-Can u pls tell me then abt this term 'jasmine revolution' floating around.....
Me-Told abt Tunisia,Arab Spring how people in autocratic middle eastern countries are trying to assert their rights

PR-So has anything similar happened in Kuwait
Me-Told abt the National Assembly protests and curbing of freedom of speech stuff there

PR-So why do u think India should be a democracy when it can develop better as an Autocratic country a la China Singapore
Me-Gassed abt personal satisfaction and how country can be not peaceful even if development is rapid if denied their basic rights like China

PR-So what do u think is more important Freedom of Speech or Economic development??
Me-After a certain level of development, freedom becomes more important as we start to assert our rights after our basic needs are met

PR-Ok,so u spoke abt Labor reforms in GD...How will that help in the food problem?? (Biggest Mistake of day speaking abt that)
Me-Gave some gyaan abt how most of them are not given enough financial incentive etc and how without that incentive agriculture production can decline even further and ppl doing farming can decrease

PR(Cuts in)-I think the problem is that too many ppl are there in agriculture with very less returns.....Gave example of how US has very less and still able to produce well
Me-(Beta ab tu mar gaya) Spoke abt how from nineteenth century when agriculture was primary occupation in US economic development was supplemented by technological developments in agriculture which allowed them to seamlessly transition from agrarian to manufacturing economy while no such developments are seen in India which can affect our food production(Remembered some statistics on falling food production after interview :splat:)

Me-More Gyaan
GC-Why did u not apply for HRM also??
Me-I am a fresher and I think it would be better if I took BM and made an informed choice about my specialization after 2 yrs at XL than right now

GC-How can u convince us that u have the required quant skills after ur poor CG??
Me-Gave gyaan abt BITS,XAT and how I had good grades in my first year Maths courses

GC,AP,PR-Thank you
Me-Thank you Sir!!

Any other details that you think are relevant:
Grilled me thoroughly on GD points and moaned abt low acads but didn't ask any Engg related question. No Hobbies and GK too.I was banking on hobbies to sell myself :(....While for other guys it was more abt hobbies and work ex....I felt they had already decided to reject me and were playing around. And the process is totally random...Every candidate in our group had a different type of interview. The first girl's interview was the least stressful(It also helped that she was good looking, tall and quite hot :splat: )...They got into better touch as the interviews progressed :P
Your advice for future aspirants: Be Confident. And the Mumbai panel is mostly taking stress interviews.I was the last person in that slot so was on the shorter side(15-20 mins) as they were impatient for their lunches :P.Be prepared to be asked anything
Verdict: Awaited.(Mostly reject)

Special achievements at work: Lolzz..

Regarding GD/Group Exercise
GD/GE Topic: Private Sector cannot solve India's public health problem
Number of participants: 13
Duration: 20 mins
Brief snapshot of discussion: I think good points were raised. I made an entry around 4 times. At the end, each of us were asked to summarize and give views within 30 seconds.

About the panel
Panelists Intro: Prof. Prantik Ray (PR), Prof. Ashis Pani (AP) and Prof. Gloryson Chalil (GC)

PI Questions:
PR: So you are also from infosys, 2 people before you were also from infosys. So much attrition will be there.
Me: Yes sir, generally also, attrition is more in IT sector

AP: What is the attrition rate of infosys ?
Me: 10-12 %

PR: Why do you think is there so much attrition in IT sector ?
Me: Sir, in the IT sector people now don't see as much career growth as there used to be during the IT boom.

PR: So as an organization what would you do to reduce attrition ?
Me: Considering an organization like infosys, it takes too much time for a progression (around 2-3 years), let alone promotion. So, I would try to reduce this time interval and thereby provide an incentive to remain in the organization.

PR: But do you think this is practically possible ? Because, if you start promoting so fast, in 10-12 years everyone would be the CEO.
Me: There must be a limit to promotion, i believe. Also, employees should be made to believe that there is growth in IT sector and that they should incorporate patience. Patience is the key, i believe.

GC: So, tell me about your background.
Me: told.

GC: Do you know what is inventory turn out ?
Me: No sir, i haven't heard of this term.

GC: From the term, logically what do you think it could be ?
Me: I think, it would be the amount of stock that would come out of the inventory in a given period of time.

GC: Ok, tell me how would you practically implement in your business something that you have learned in your engineering.
Me: Started telling that i would use programming languages and softwares for better management of inventory etc.

GC: Take up one core concept and explain. For e.g. tell me how would you use standard deviation and variance as concepts and improve your business ?
Me: I started telling about how in the month of February, business would rise in the days near valentine's day as compared to other days of the month. So, if we find that the deviation is more during these days, then it implies that as a business we aren't doing well in other days. So we need to concentrate on improving business on other days as well.

GC: Tell me specifically, how would you do it ?
Me: I tried hard explaining but i don't think he was convinced. Of the 15-20 mins of the interview, this discussion lasted around 7-8 mins :(

AP: What is the full form of FMCG ?
Me: I could not recollect and said i am not aware.

PR: What is your CAT score ?
Me: 98.43

PR: So, what other calls do you have ?
Me: told

PR: So, are those interviews done ?
Me: Yes sir.

PR: And what is your XAT score ?
Me: 99.58

PR: Have you applied to other institutes accepting XAT scores ? Did you apply for Goa institute ?
Me: Yes sir, Its interview is scheduled in March.

PR: Ok, have a nice day.
Me: Thanked all 3 of them and left.

Verdict: REJECT, mostly because of the standard deviation and statistics discussion
XLRI dream over :(

Regarding GD/Group Exercise
GD/GE Topic: Human Rights in Western Countries is a myth!
Number of participants: 12
Duration: 15 mins
Brief snapshot of discussion:

Everyone pitched in and it was a good GD. I had some valid points in the discussion.

At the end, everyone was asked to summarize the discussion in 3 sentences!!

About the panel
Panelists Intro:Three People, lets name them P1, P2, P3.They were more or less of the same age group..They were all cordial, except P2who kept quiet for most of the interview

PI Questions:

P1: So, tell me about the current company you work
Me: Answered about what our company is, what we do and what my role is

P1: What is a pvt. Limited company?
Me: Sir, its a company owned by a handful of people. Our company is owned by 2 people.

P1: How many people can own a pvt ltd company
Me: Sir, I m not sure, but I think its in the range of 1 to 5( which, I later found out, is a big blunder)

P1: Can a private ltd company issue preference shares?
Me: Sir, I dunno what preference shares are, but a private ltd company can issue shares after intimating and getting the permission from SEBI

P1: What is SEBI?
Me: Sir, its Securities and Exchange Board of India. It monitors all the public companies

P1: Only public companies?
Me: Yes sir, I think so

P1: What are listed companies?
Me: Sir, Listed companies are those that are listed either in BSE or NSE

P1: Whats the difference between those two
Me: Sir, NSE is National Stock Exchange, located in Delhi and BSE is Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai. And they have different indices with NSE considering 50 companies and BSE 30.

P3: ok
P1: So, you have talked about Drug lords in Mexico. What is that?
Me: (Prepared this while waiting for the interview) Sir, Mexico is facing a big problem with drug lords who are criminal organizations fighting against each other for gaining positions and many civilians are being killed in the process. And, the government, to reduce drug trafficking, has given lot of powers to military and the military is using them for inhuman activities like torturing etc..So , Mexico is facing a big human rights violation challenge.

P1: ok, What about Colombia?
Me: Sir, I dunno about the details but Colombia is also facing the problems of drug trafficking

P1: Ok, why do you think this is happening only in these two countries?
Me: Sir, its not just these two countries sir, there are a lot others. But, why it is huge in Mexico is because Mexico is right below US and hence it has huge opportunities to transport drugs over to US illegally.

P1: So, what should US do?
Me: They must strengthen the border security, tighten their drug policies and help these countries with manpower

P1: No, what must US do in their country to reduce this problem?
Me: I guess, they can provide better facilities to treat drug addiction. And as this addiction falls, demand for drugs comes down and hence the problem might lessen.

P1: Ok..(and looks at the other members)
P3: So, which branch are you from
Me: CSE sir

P1: So, why do you want to do MBA
Me(I had to ask the question again as I couldnt understand him the first time): Told ..
and they looked convinced to me!!

P3: So, you said "Human rights is obviously a myth"
Me: Yes sir, but what I actually wanted to say was "Human rights is in fact a myth"

P3: Thats correct. So why do you think so
Me: I tried to explain something saying that its related to a nation

P3: Are you sure that human rights is related to a nation, or is it individual?
Me: I m not sure sir

P3: What are Human rights?
Me: Its a set of basic rights through which a human can lead a decent life

P3: there you go
Me: (realizing) Yes sir, Human rights is related to the individual

P3: Ok, then
Me: And human rights can never be completely implemented. If we consider US after 9/11, their retaliation against Afghanistan and later Iraq are seen as good by americans, but these countries have suffered a lot sir

P3: Tell me a situation where human rights are violated in Afghanistan
Me: There are many cases where Americans tortured Afghanistan prisoners and there was a recent news where a picture was printed

P3: U think Osama Bin Laden violated Human rights
Me: Obviously sir, he has bombed numerous people for no proper reason and that itself is a direct violation of human rights

P3: What about Saddam? Did he violate any human rights when he captured Kuwait?
Me: Sorry sir, but I have not much idea about Saddam capturing Kuwait

P3 then cracks a joke about Saddam and all laugh

Me: Sir, I dunno about Kuwait, but in general, he was responsible for torturing of many people in Iraq and so he also violated human rights. Also, he was responsible for mass deaths too

P3: Yes, mass murders..true

P2: What other exams did you give
Me: Told

P2: What calls you got from them
Me: Told

P2: So, how did you prepare for your interview?
Me: Said that I have attended a few mock interviews

P2: They asked all these questions?
Me: No sir, just the basic questions like "why mba" and all

P2: And you have answered them all to us now
Everybody smile

They looked at each other and signal its over

I thanked them all and left!

Any other details that you think are relevant: They have all our details and even our Essays, the ones which we wrote in XAT. I, luckily, wasnt asked from that, but there are some people in my panel who were asked questions on their essays.

Your advice for future aspirants:Be cool and confident(I know, its a cliche!)
