Seated in the order of age I think..;) P1 - young,Mostly observing :: P2 - Middle Agged and P3 - Old..

Me: (into the room) Good Morning sir..

P2: Plz have a seat.

Me: Thank you sir.

P2: So, wheres your college?

Me: It's in Sivagangai sir. Close to Madurai..

P2: Oh.. So, what is Sivagangai famous for?

Me: Sir..(after some thought) Crackers!! Actually it was of historical importance but couldnt remember the exact thing..

P2: You should know them.. (smiles and says) Also, It need not be famous for anything.. It may be just another town.. (Both P1 and P3 smiles in a polite way)

Me: Yes sir.. (Me too enjoyed it..)

P2: What is Madurai famous for?

Me: Temple town sir. (gave a list of temples and places around Madurai)

P2: How do you compare it with Chennai?

Me: (started speaking from the climate point of view..)

P2: That even someone who hasnt visited Madurai and Chennai can say..

Me: Do you want me compare them in any particular perspective?

P1: You can choose your own perspective..

Me: (spoke from the traffic point of view... spoke how the traffic in Madurai is getting congested and is in someway mimicking that of Chennai)

P2: Madurai has TVS too, right??

Me: Yes sir. We have TVS, Madura, Fenner...

P3: What did you do in your present job?

Me: (explained my work profile)

P3: Whats the role of your team leader in your present company?

Me: (Told them TLs not involve in techincal side.. they take of man management..)

P3: What is Man management?

Me: (Told that they speak with my PPs and know what I'm doing and make sure enough work is available to all and sutffs like that..)

P3: I think I've nt quiet got the answer I'm looking for..

Me: I think I gave it my best shot sir.. But I'll try to repharse it.. (included managing training schedules for team members and stuff)

P2: What do you think of Arvind Kejriwal?

Me: (spoke about him and said his 'all-out' approach is not good)

P2: So are you saying he is not a good leader?

Me: No sir. I'm not saying that. I'm saying its too early to judge him. Morever, the 'goodness' can be measured in differnt ways.

P2: So tell us in what ways do we measure that?

Me: Say for example, we can take Gandhi and Subash Chnadra Bose. Both fought for the freedom of India and in different ways. But that doesnt mean one is better than the other. Its like that.. so coming back to our main question which is.. (actually at this point I forgot teh main ques and was thinking...)

P3: yes.. you were saying about Kejriwal..

Me: Yeah.. I mean his all out approach is not good in India, which is known for its dipolamacy. His goal is very clear.. To uproot corruption. But the path he has chosen is very rough.. Any decision by a leader at a National level has to take into account the view of others and he should try to slow down his pace..

P1: What do you mean by 'betterment of the society'? (In my career goals I wrote I want to contribute to the society)

Me: Business is not just about making money. (Took the prodcut we develop as an example and talked about value addition)

P1: All your hobbies seem to indicate that you are more of self oriented...

Me: No sir. Am actually a good team player. (Talked about me winning a badminton doubles tournament and realted with my working in a team and my love for the game as well)

P2: So very good. I think we can conclude the interview. Do you have any question for us?

Me: (I was thinking 'why not math question yet?')..

P2: (smiles and says) doesnt mean you have to ask a question..

Me: No sir. I was just thinking why there was no math questions. I love Maths and would like to answer a few questions.

P2: (Huge laughter from all the panelists) No problem. You've proved yourself. (rephrases it thinin that it could mean something different). I mean, you've proved yourself in CAT.

Me: Okay then. Thank you all for a wonderful interview sir. Do you want me to call the next candidate.

P2: No.. Thanks.

The panel way way too chilled out. Actually when I came out, the other candidates asked why we were laughing all the while.. Personally I dont think I gave them a reason to reject me..

Verdict (My view) : Wait-Listed (Atleast)

So tell my puys, what do ya think about it?? I've tried to give everyting in the interview. you could do me the favor putting your views..

L: Lady

C: Prof in the middle

S: prof. on one side

M: me

Duration of PI: Was the 4th one. The interview went on for 20-25 mins.

L: So XXX, what does your name mean?

At the same time

C/S: Tell us about yourself

C and S let L go on

M: Mam, it means goddess of nourishment and food.

L ( with a smile): Can you tell me more name for the same goddess? 3 more names?

Me: Parvatiโ€ฆ (โ€ฆ that was all that I knew.. ) mam, I am sorry.. I am not good with Hindu Mythology

L: Hehe.. it's okay.. tell us about yourself

S (at the same time): so then tell us something you're good at

M: (I got a bit confused.. which one to answer) So, just what I am good at or can I let it be a part of my complete introduction?

S: Yes, yes go on. Tell us about yourself.

M: Told. Work ->hometown->college->hobbies (theatre)

C: Oh, so you act.. please show us a piece.. if you want to stand up and do an act.. please feel free.. some lines for a min or so

M: Ah, Okay.. but before I enact.. I'd like to give you a description of the lines I will enact

C: yes, yes go ahead ( all the while looking at my form)

M: Gave the description

I put my file on the chair and got up and spoke a few lines

(I wasn't looking at them so I don't know if they were convinced or not but what I felt was that they though I ws pretty confident about the whole thing)

L: So aaaaa, you've written that your work is related to a bit of Finance also.. so are you familiar with all the financial terms like xxxxx and dividends.. etc

M: Mam, not exactly because my work is very specific to my company so I know all the terminologies related to those business processes.

L: Oh Okay.. so can you tell me some of competitors of the technology you're working on?

M: Told. Explained salient features also.

C: Any new things they are coming with? (something like thatโ€ฆ)

M: Told ( spoke for about a minute or so)

C: Okay, aaaaaa can you tell me what graph is this?

I didn't know what graph it was.. It was very familiar .. I had seen it a lot .. the current voltage characteristics for most of the semi-conductor devices but never bothered to know what equation it could've been! So I pretended that I didn't get the question (hoping he would change it while asking again:P )

C: Can you tell me something about this graph? How does this behave?

M: Sir, it increases at first linearly and then after a point it becomes constant more or less.. (K)

C: Okay, what else?

Can you write an equation for it?

(Thinking hard.. very hard.. was going through all the graphs I knew.. still couldn't find it.. then I decided to try something out.. )

I said that this graph is a little similar to the graph of y = x^1/3 which looks like this

So if I remove the left part and consider values with X>0โ€ฆ it would sort of look like this

C: Ok, fair enough.. can you differentiate it?

Did it.

C: Okay, so what does it tell you? (some discussion)

M: That the rate of change of the graph is max here and then it becomes constant (it was right)

C: Okay.. now can you get the second differentiation..

M: Was doing it right.. the graph was in four quadrant.. started from โ€“infinity and was coming down.. it should have gone along the axis.. but after 1, I made a concave.. I had mixed up things (it was wrong)..

C: even asked you sure it ll go up.. and I said yes (MY MISTAKE)

But they didn't drill me on it any longer.. and he started asking something else (which I don't remember)

S: You've written that you like to read books..which is the last book you've read.. give a review of it

M: Said 'To kill a mockingbird' (even though it wasn't the last one).. written in 1960's.. issues of racialism.. social inequality.. rape.. injustice.. destruction of innocence.. very bold book because these things existed and still exist and no one ever accepted that.. and it was very intimidating for people to have the truth forced right in their face.. we do it so often.. we discriminate based on caste, religion, region.. and even economic strata.. and it was relevant then and it continues to remain relevant and will remain so

S: Why, so you say no end to racialism?

M: Sir, I can't say about that but it's not just that which makes this book relevant .. it is the destruction of innocence.. or losing it.. because as a child we think that the world is a very pleasant place as seen in our fairy tile books.. but there comes a time in life when all of this goes for a toss and we start to realize about the atrocities that the world offers.. and the very realization of it.. this entire phase.. of being aware of any evil is a difficult phase for any child..it is difficult to come to terms with that.. and this might even affect one negatively..

L: Aaaaaa.. tell me a quality that a leader should have and you don't have

M: (mentally thinking qualities of a leader).. Told

L: Okay.. and? That's it?

M: (wondering that you said 'A' which means only one!.. didn't know what to say.. I didn't want to come out as too negative.. I realized I had been speaking a lot so I said..) Maybe, I should listen a bit more so blah blah

L: ok.. (slight smile) so tell me the qualities of a leader then

M: blah blah

L: Okay not tell me the qualities of a business leader then

M: blah blah

(Okay with it)

C: Have you seen the website of IIMC? I mean have you gone through blah blah

M: yes, sir

C: So what did you like about it? Social life? Student life?

M: many extra curriculurs.. etc

C: So what did you like about the campus?

M: Sir, the auditorium looked very pretty in the picture.

C/S: So out of SAP and Oracle.. which one do you think has chances of good growth?

M: Told. Explained. ( for about 2 mins)

(I had made it a point to look at everyone while speaking .. S took notice of that and started nodding whenever I would look at him)

C: Okay.. what if you don't get through any IIMs? What will you do? I mean you have calls from other IIMs too, right?

M: yes, sir.. except IIMB.. all others

C: Okay, yes so if you don't get through anywhere.. what will you do?

M: Sir, I would like to analyze and understand what went wrong

C:. Yes, that is okay. You'll continue with your job? You're not happy with it?

M: Sir, yes I will continue with my job. Like I had said because I am very new to these fields.. don't have a background of sales and distribution, HR, Finance.. I often fail to understand the associated business processes.. so it is very important for me to understand it all to be able to deliver well

(They had also asked me about the difference between PGDM and PGDCM.. told that I had read up on their website how they were more or less the same.. same classes, placements.. CM people had to take more courses .. computer related)

(They all nod)

Okay, aaa.. that's all from our side

Sir, just before we wrap it up.. I had two questions. May I?

All: yes yes please go ahead

M: I was reading your website and learnt that students go for global exchange program in their 2nd year.. at one place it was mentioned .. a third of the class goes.. and at the other, a quarter of the class. So how does it work? What's the criteria?

C: Yes, there is a criteria.. (they didn't know what to say.. Lady said.. yes CG.. CG)

Everyone: yes CG.. cg

C: but then they are applications related also

Me: Oh alright, sir. And second question.. this is not related to the program.. ( All โ€“ ya ya go on).. Well, are there really 7 lakes in the campus?

All (with a very .. sly.. smile): Yes.. yes there are 7 lakes.

Me: Wow. Thank you everyone J

Panel members are very friendly...they are smiling through out the interview...not grilling at all and they even helped me some times.

But don't know how the interview went overall...didn't have a slight clue ๐Ÿ˜....and no acad ques...no hobbies...and no math ques...

I prepared math and hobby ques even the day before the interview and they didn't even asked one question ๐Ÿ˜

me: as of I know it is not world's top but India's top company

p3: I am not asking ur view

p2: what is sapiens?

p1: f(c)= |x1-c|+|x2-c|+|x3-c|+|x4-c|, x1=2, x2=3, x3=4, x4=5, find the least value, no need to do just explain briefly

me: first I consider c as -ve, then +ve and solve

p1: ok can we do this using differentiation?

me: yes sir but it depends on considering x values and without considering x values

p1: ok tell me differentiation for |x-c|?

WAT Topic - Women now a days are coming out in open and telling about the sexual molestation in the workplace. What do you think is the reason for this change?

Went off pretty well.

Interview- I was the last one to be interviewed in my slot. Panel consisted of three gentlemen P1, P2 & P3. Two were in their 50s and one was quite young.

First all the panelists asked me that you have an advantage that you already know most of the questions that we have asked today.

Answered politely that this is not the case sir as I just asked the previous guys which topics you were asking questions on, not the exact questions.

P1- Tell me why you want to do an MBA when you want to be become a top level manager in the automobile industry (wrote about it in my career goals)

Me- Answered them that I want to learn how the business world functions and what factors drive the automobile sector in coming out with new products.

P2 Asked me about my work experience and my role in my firm.

Me- Answered it satisfactorily.

P3- Explain me what exactly is designing.

Me- I blabbed a bit. But I think he wasn't satisfied with my answer.

P2 Asked me about the auto expo a bit as I work in the automotive firm

Me- Answered it satisfactorily.

P2- Tell me the volume of the water bottle that is kept on the table. How will you calculate it?

Me- Sir put it in a tub of water and measure the volume of the water that is displaced. He seemed impressed by this answer.

P2- Well you are right. But how will you proceed mathematically?

Me- Answered that I will reduce the bottle into simple geometries. A cylinder capped by a cone and if I know the dimensions then I will calculate the approx volume by the basic formulae.

The panelist seemed satisfied and my interview was over.

Overall it was a nice discussion with the panelists. As I was the last one to be interviewed and they were already late for lunch, my interview went for around 15-20 mins. The panelists were cheerful and friendly.

Rest all is now in their hands. I hope I get through. All the best to the fellow call getters.๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
