Hi All,

Congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted for the GD PI stage. But this is just the first hurdle cleared. There's still a long way to go....

So keeping that in mind, I'm starting this thread for any queries or doubts you might have about the GD PI process, the kinds of GDs, interviews etc.

I would request all the fellow ManDevIans to pour in their thoughts and experiences as well for the benefit of the juniors....

The PGP HR people are especially requested to chip in since the process for the HR course was very different from that of the PGP M.....

OK.....so my experience was as follows:

98.35%ile
Electronics and Communications Engg
No Work Ex

GD was a newspaper based GD...we were given an article on the arrest of baazee.com CEO, the IT act etc....and were asked to discuss.....

I had an average GD......made about 3-4 points....nothing spectacular. Wasn't satisfied with my GD.....

We were asked to write a summary at the end..they said you have 10 mins but took away our sheets after 5 mins only.....

The interview lasted only about 4 mins....some of the questions were:

1. How do you calculate the number of zeroes at the end of a factorial? Explain the concept
2. How do you find the last digit after removing all the zeroes at the end of a factorial?
3. Some questions about noise in communication.
4. Some basic questions about entropy and digital communications.
5. Family Background
6. Personlaity traits....whether you get angry or not etc....

Basically I stayed calm and the interviewers were laughing throughout....so it was a good interview.......

Hope this was of some help.....

tentative dates for FINAL calls?

coz going by the last years dates on pg , this yr the procedure is late by a month! 😞

Guys Denish called MDI sometime back for the discrepancy in his results and found that he has mentioned a wrong CAT id in his form (a 5 instead of 2 I think) and that is the reason, he hasn't been given the call.
He is talking to the admin office for this.

In case any of you have also got an doubts in your mind (only if you are clearing the cut offs), then call up the office immediately.

All the best!

MDI seniors...

do the newspaper articles given for GD are of current affairs.. or a debatable topic of past also???

Last year most of the topics were current, like the LPG subsidy, CAS, baazee.com etc....but there were also some "evergreen" topics like Indo-Pak issues on which articles were given

Last year each GD group had 8-10 people. There were 10 minutes for discussion. The GD moderators take the interviews also.

How did you find out about such intricate details ?
Were you at the other end of the line ;)

Here's my report.

In case of doubts, call them up ... keep your Score card handy and a piece of paper and pen with you. They may ask you to Fax your score card with a covering letter if you are lucky.. or had been unlucky OR careless (like me 😞 )
Then I talked to the Chairman Mr Bappa after I had faxed my Score card + Covering letter & also mailed them [email protected] with my score-card as an attachment.

Mr. Bappa has asked me to follow up next week

Special Thanks to the Benchman (Jerry) for PMing me. I had lost all hope.

Also seniors, if it is not a bother can you also find out my status.

Name: Denish Shah
CAT Reg no:3612212
MDI APP no. 000740

Thanks a lot to all seniors .. that was really helpful :)

Partyyyyy for all .. if I am a ManDevIan

PS. This is a photo-copy of my post in the interview calls thread

hello senoirs.well i wanted to know about GD/PI in HR.so i request some of the senoirs to post their HR GD/PI experiences as well as what more do we need to prepare for it.

Hi All,

Congrats to all those who have earned call. I can share my last year's GD/PI experience wid you guys. It was for PGPM. We were given a newspaper article to discuss for 15 mins and also 2 minutes to write down summary of the discussion. The article for my group was based on cyber policing and cyber ethics. The group had 7 members (including me). It was one of the peaceful GDs where everyone got chance to speak (a couple of them didn't spoke though).

Interview was mainly based on work-ex. 10 mins ... no stress interview ... was quite chill.

My advice is brush up your knowledge of current affairs and do some background study about MDI also as in the courses offered, some prominent faculty members etc. etc. Read newspaper daily and also follow up the coming budget.

Hope it helps.

Cheers!!!
Ritesh

all the centres that have been mentioned will have gd/pi's unless something goes drastically wrong...dunno whether chennai is mentioned on the website, but if yes, then there wud be gd/pi's there too

Let me give you some idea about my GD PI process, that took place in Mumbai.
I had applied to both the courses (PGPM as well as PGHR).

PGPM -
GD was again a case study with the topic - should India accept a second level seat at UNSC?
The interview was unlike Ritesh's, with 50% of the time spent on a rapid fire business quiz.
Wide ranging questions were asked depending on my answers (I had a pretty bad start but may have fared well in the end:satisfie:).
Also some questions related to my work ex were there alongwith a short intro and some on hobbies.

PGHR -
First it was a group activity in which we were asked to make planes (of exact size and dimensions).
Prior to this we were asked for our estimated profit (we got negative profit, i.e. loss instead).

The interview was to judge whether I am interested in doing HR course or not. Why HR? Why not PGPM? what are your skills and hobbies?
Name some famous women of India....
Quite a stressful interview for me.??:

Hope this helps...
And as everyone has been telling you - read a lot. Especially on the major issues of past 2 months.
Also read every aspect of mergers & acquisitions happening these days (mittal steel for sure)...
All the best...
