Its quite interesting that MFM has not lost favor with people in spite of its horrible placement records. MFM shall be useful to only those who seek a career in buying/merchandising (including visual merchandising). Rest of the arenas its a dead end thing due to lack of industry recognition and a course content that is too basic for real business managers. NIFT's brand name stands undisputedly for design but not for management. Burn yourselves up if you prefer believing what the prospectus has to say about it.

Definitely a thumbs up if u are interested in buying or merchandising (especially those from fashion or textiles background). You shall land up with something in these fields.

But forget it if you want to compete with MFM against a regular MBA from a decent B-Skul. Neither in richness of course content/job profiles nor in pay packages.

All the best to buying/merchandising aspirants and god save those who think of it as a substitute to regular MBA. 😃

I guess all the Aspirants are prepared for the upcoming NIFT exams...........

Yet to see some one cmng fwd.
All the best Guys

Hey!

Could you please tell me from where can I source nift materials? I looked up websites of Afdindia, Rathore design and FashionAptitude for MFM section. But I'm not sure from where I should order. Can you please help me out with it?
Thank you!
@Manseee If you aiming for MFM, a good MAT manual should do the trick. The paper is a stripped down version of MAT. Most of the questions are very easy while a pinch belong to moderate LOD. Speed is the key. Rest if you want to buy something online kindly wait for sometime. People might come over to answer this query who have purchased stuff from AFD and rest. I don't want to talk without experience.
@Manseee Well I suppose You can go for the book published by Arihant Publication.
Dis is what i have been suggesting since last 3 Yrs n trust me that will be more than enough.

You can check ma prev threads on pagal guy for last year Prep.
feel free to post ur querries if any.

All the best
Sachin Pratap

@SharmaSuhas Okay.. I guess I'll wai for sometime then!
Thanks.
@sachinpratap I will check out Arihant Publication book. If it covers MAT section in detail then I will go with it because I already have material for the rest of the section. I need stuff to prepare for case studies, thats it.
Thank you so much!

@Manseee I am asking you to wait but don't wait for too long. Keep it time bound. As for case studies you may google them. Arihant's MAT manual is being recommended because it has everything at one place. Moreover AIMA conducts this entrance test on NIFT's behalf. The same authority which conducts MAT. So the questions and pattern shall bear a resemblance to MAT. In reality a shade easier. Also review with what expectations you want to join this course. Perfect if you want to work in the fashion industry and have an inclination towards fashion and fashion subjects in general. Kindly don't go for this if you are a core management aspirant. This is about merchandising/buying and some retail operations but not all. I have posted about the profiles that you get after this course in NIFT MFM 2013. You may refer.

All the best for your future endeavors!
@SharmaSuhas Thanks for your input. Yes, I am not going to wait for too long. I've already started my preparation! I just wanted a lil information on case studies. And Thank you so much for letting me know about MAT and MFM similarities. I would go through MAT exam papers now. And about the course, well I know its structure and I am totally wanting to do it. I am a management graduate and I've done a certified program from NIFT so I see this Masters degree as a perfect opportunity to blend my inclination towards fashion and management. I want to learn the subjects in detail. And for that I want to crack the exam really well. :)
Thanks once again!

@Manseee Your case deems fit to me for MFM in the sense you have an inclination towards fashion. So ideally you should sail through it without any major hassles. I infer that you are a BBA and now planning for MFM. As for subjects you shall learn about merchandising/retail store ops/marketing research/consumer behavior/supply chain management/human resource management/financial management/brand management etc....albeit not in the same depth and details as a B- School.

Rest go ahead with the course and do well....try for NIFT Delhi under all circumstances.

Cheers!

whats the package after passing out? because people say it is not a very good course...doing normal mba can also fetch you a job in the retail sector

@meghag15 Yeahh d initial pay is low and the growth will be saturated to only apparel industry,
The packages u can expect is in b/w 3.5-6 L.
Comparing MFM with MBA is not the thing to debate upon.
Its more of ur interest. If you r inclined towards Fashion den dis is the course.
Doin MFM from NIFT is any time better than doin MBA frm average college as u pay just around 2 L here(NIFT) as compare to 6-8 L @ other colleges.
So first make options and den choose.
All the best

can you suggest me colleges which offer fashion mgmt abroad and how to apply for them? i love fashion...but the only thing that worries me is the package. wat is the max. package that you can get after say working for 5 years in the indstry?

@meghag15 Well if you want to study abroad den NIFT do provide platform for that also.
Regarding pay i can say that its all upto you.
I have seen many MFM students leading top brands so there is a growth provided you give time to it.
Fashion industry is still very young in India and trust me there is a future.
About colleges for fashion management kinda course abroad will let ya know ASAP.
Do apply for NIFT MFM.
All The Best

Hey Puys........

Hows the prep goin.....
Kindly keep sharing ur queries n thoughts here abt prep.
Thnx

Hey.... could u please tell me as to what extent fashion industry related questions are asked in the Nift MFM exam.... Any idea would be really helpful?

@pava Well Reg Fashion related question just keep in mind the tag lines and brand ambassadors of diff brands.
Plus few knowledge abt brands.
They r very generic and u can learn all dis frm the TV commercials n all.
Thnx
Sachin
