Hello Prof,

I have read the interview posted here on pg,

1) I find a mention about cutoffs - "The cutoff was 83.25 marks."

Does SNAP give out a percentile? if not then about what rank would 83.25 have fetched last year?, I guess what I am trying to ask is 'how many people do you call for the second round of the selection process?'

2) Also at SIBM, how different is the placement scenario for those with prior experience when compared to students with no prior experience? I am aware of the placement scene of SIBM in general, but I would like to know more about what kind of positions are offered to experienced candidates, say with 3 years of prior experience.

Thanks in Advance.

Rock on!

Dear Hameed,

I thank you for your interest in SIBM. Let me answer your queries pointwise:

1. SNAP had a overall percentile cutoff upto last year but this year we plan to make the cutoffs sectionwise. The number of students called for interview were about 1200 last year but this year I am glad to announce that SIBM will have 2 campuses, Pune and Bangalore and hence the number of students called for interview will be higher than last year.

2. About 40% of our students get lateral placements as they have prior experience of about 18 months+ before they join. The sectors like IT, Consultancy & FMCG typically offer lateral placements with positions like Dy. Manager or Business Analyst.

Best of luck,
Pranab.

Sir,

Does it mean that in each section the students need to score a minimum cutoff or any non-zero score will be ok?

Will SIBM shift to its new campus this year?

Also how many seats are you planning to have in the SIBM Bangalore campus?

Will the GD/PI process be held at places other than Pune?

Regards,

Mexxian

Hi Sir,
Currently i am in IT company and have 3.5 Year Ex including a good exposure of Onsite working direct with client.
Now i want to do MBA form SIBM, Will it be Helpful to get call form SIBM.
I listen that if candidates have good Experience then SIBM called for interview even less score in SNAP.
Thanks
Rakesh

Hi Mexxian,

Thanks for your interest in SIBM. You have rightly guessed, we will have a seperate cutoff for each section. Secondly we will be shifting to our new campus at Lavale which will have world-class facilitites from June, 2008. The Bangalore campus will have 120 students but the GD/PI will be centralized at Pune. Hope this answers your query.

Regards,
Pranab.

Hi Rakesh,

Thanks for your interest in SIBM. Firstly lateral placements for experienced IT professionals has been extremely good, but we do not compromise on the cutoff marks for anybody. You experience will definitely be counted during interview.

Pranab.

Hello sir,

I have 3+ years experience in IT and am interested for admission to SIBM(Finance) as I intend to change my career path.

1. Will my work-ex be considered as a criterion for admission or will i be equivalent to a fresher?

2. Please don't take this otherwise but i feel asking students to pay the money and confirm admission even before IIMs and all other B-school results are out is not fair.
What do you think and what is SIBM's rationale behind that ?

thanks and regards

Dear Prof Deb,
Thanks for giving your valuable inputs on our profiles through this forum in your busy schedule.
I would like know my chances to be part of SIBM for the next year.
X 1994 (CBSE): 81.4%
XII 1996 (CBSE): 73.8%
B.E.(CSE) 2001 (M.S.R.I.T, Banglaore): 60.42% (Avg.) 66% (Degree)
Work Exp. to date: 6 years.
1. Worked as a developer/team-member with a reputed IT firm for 2 years.
2. Worked as an onsite co-ordinator and Team lead at the clients office in the USA for almost 3 years.
My experience is in financial doamin.
3. Now I have changed my employer and I am working with another reputed IT firm as a PL. But since my field of interest is BFSI and I am not put into it, i am planning to take up an offer from a company in US. I will have to work as a senior developer/Team Lead.

Extra Curriculars:
Involved in organizing cricket tournament for clients in the USA, 2 years in succession.
Did a 5k run from my clients side at the Wall Street, NY on the occasion of world heart day.
Took the lead in conducting several mainframe training programs for the new joiners at our ADC.
How are my chances of getting an interview call if I clear SNAP? I mean, will my experience carry enough weightage?

Thanks & Regards
SVD

Dear SVD,

Thanks for your interest in SIBM. Your profile looks very interesting and we would be glad to know you better but as I mentioned before you will have to clear SNAP and get the required cutoff marks. If you do get the cutoff marks and get called for an interview then your profile would be looked at very closely by our interview panel.

Regards,
Pranab.

Hello Prof
I would like to know that how much weightage SIBM gives to 10th & 12th standard marks.Does it count at all?

Sir,
The information about SIBM opening a new campus at Banglore is really heartening as it shall give mba aspirants like me a better chance 2 get into what is fast becoming one of India's best brands for management education.

But with this come's a lot of apprehension about issues like:
1. Campus (Infrastructure, loc. in blore, residential facilities etc)
2. Faculty
3. Application Procedure
4. Courses Offered
5. Ist Batch etc
Further will the cutoff be same for both the campuses??
Also as u hv mentioned in ur earlier post's about d introduction of sectional cutoff from this year onwards...so wud dat mean a non zero score would be fine or the minimum calculated cutoff for all sections wud b mandatory 2 get a call?

Regards
Sahil

People with graduation from IGNOU ( correspondence) are not eligible for MBA from SIBM!!
do you not think that they managed their study and job simultaneously ? so more hardworking than the others .
why you have such criteria for selection??

Sir,

I would like to ask you a few questions about my concerns:

1. Irrespective of the marks to be scored what is the percentile which would guarantee a person a call for GD/PI. Also how much weightage does the SNAP score have once you have qualified for the GD/PI round.

2. I have had a very interesting life where I spent 2 years in NDA, Pune and due to medical and personal reasons had to come back and do my engg. Then I did my Engg and am presently working for the past year and a half for a global electronics company. My concern is that I have a break in my education for 3 years due to my sojourn in NDA. Will this adversely affect my chances in the GD/PI ?
My academic performances before and after my stay in NDA have been pretty good.

Thank you,

Hi,
Thanks for your interest in SIBM. 10th and 12th standard marks do not directly influence the admission procss but it acts as an indicator to the candidates seriousness towards academics.

Pranab.

Hi Sahil,
Thanks for your interest in SIBM. Firstly allow me to rest your apprehensions about our Bangalore campus. Since it is SIBM at Bangalore you should have no doubt that it will be at par with all facilities which is currently provided at Pune campus as we never ever compromise on quality whether in Pune or Bangalore.

The cutoff marks remain same but since our intake will be higher this year more students can aspire to be a SIBMite this year. The cutoff marks will be sectionwise as I mentioned earlier.

Pranab.
