The diary of a Cynical Indian

One lazy evening, staring out of the window at a stray dog and its malnourished little puppies being scared off by my neighbor, I wondered if I ever have to answer,”What is India? ” in a sentence, what would I probably say. A train of thoughts ran through my conscious and it was like the little movie-wala dabba, where we used to watch pictures through a hole inside a box when we were young(not long time back! Yes, the one which is extinct for that matter! As if the kids now would want to see that!).

One frame showing the times when the people were complacent enough to let the foreigners creep in, of-course we believed that guests are irritatingly Godly, with all due respect! and make their burrows in our homes! I could not help but scoff at the concept of foreigners coming in our country and then levying the tax from us! ‘Anyways, let the bygones be bygones! Lets look at the positives!’, I told myself!

Another frame showing the strength and determination of the people of India in driving the intruders out of our homes! That shows a strength in particular! A kind of tolerance that India should be proud of! India boasts of a record where it has never waged a war against a nation for greedy pursuits! India has showed an excellent example of patience and tolerance in almost every aspect! That is beautiful, and stupid too!

So talking about patience and tolerance, the next frame was a collection of the rape episodes that India has been having since few years! But then, this had always been there! It is more spoken about nowadays only because Indian women have become more bold and free now! Haven’t we been more tolerant and patient condoning these atrocities against women!

Women! Speaking about which, India is known as a nation that has deified women! The nation whose government has undertaken schemes and policies to encourage women and girls to educate themselves and save them from the evils of the past!Does that mean, India has two sets of principles? I wonder now!

Sighing, I told my mind, “Next slide! “.
