Sushma Swaraj admitted to AIIMS, Delhi for kidney transplant

Sushma Swaraj, the Minister of External Affairs was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi on November 15. She has been making rounds of the hospital for several tests over the last few months. She recently visited the hospital for endocrinological tests on November 7. Currently, the minister is on dialysis and is seeking expert opinion on a kidney transplant. She is also undergoing tests for the same.

Earlier today, Swaraj tweeted an update on her health which got twitter on a roll. Several celebrities from across the country sent their best wishes for her speedy recovery.

However, what also concerned us at PaGaLGuy, is the impact of VVIPs being admitted to AIIMS on students and patients. An MBBS student from AIIMS, Delhi said, “The security gets tighter, but there is no hassle for either students or patients”.

On speaking to the Dean of AIIMS, Delhi, Dr Balram Airan, we learned that despite a VVIP being in the hospital, the treatment process for other patients or students is not affected. On asking him whether MBBS and postgraduate students get to learn from cases related to these important people, he said, “These are not extraordinary or one-of-a-kind cases that students need to learn from”.
