Student power wins as IIT Madras revokes ban on Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle

The ongoing controversy between IIT Madras and Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle, an independent student body of IIT Madras has been resolved as of now.

PaGaLGuY  spoke to a spokesperson from IIT Madras who confirmed that APSC has been reinstated.

The decision to ‘re-recognise’ the body came after  series of meetings held between APSC and the director of IIT Madras. Some time, the matter was referred to  the Dean of Students who then “reinstated the
recognition of APSC as an independent student body, and after
consultation with the APSC representatives, recommended Prof.
Milind Brahme as the Faculty Advisor,” said the spokeperson.

The meetings held over the last few days between APSC members and the management also brought to the fore issues and suggestions for uniform application of  guidelines for independent student
bodies. The spokesperson added: “Some of these will be implemented by the Office of Dean
(Students), while the Student Affairs Council, Board of Students,
and Senate will take up the modifications in due course for
consideration as per established procedure.”
