Secrets of a CEO revealed over a cup of coffee

In February 2010, Europe Asia Business School (EABS), Pune flagged off an initiative for working professionals across India titled Unleash the CEO within you to gauge CEO potential among those aspiring to be one. The event received tremendous response showing participation from hundreds of MBA candidates. Along with this event, an initiative aiming to enlighten its students and working professionals was a series of sessions called Coffee with CEO to discuss the various attributes of a CEO.

Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director EABS said about the event, I personally believe that the Indian growth story should be inclusive. First of all it is not limited to only classroom learning but should also incorporate field and Industry learning. He further added, This event is a one of its kind event where not only MBAs but non-MBAs are getting a chance to solve case studies and step into the shoes of an MBA.

In this concluding session, were invited Mr. Ashwini Malhotra, MD Weikfield Agro and Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, MD C ummins Generators.

This acts as a perfect platform where one can get an inside view of the philosophy, hard work and the attribute that goes into the making of a CEO. This event has been organized on a weekly basis at various coffee shops across the country in an informal setting. The fourth and last session was conducted in Pune. The subject Qualities of a CEO was discussed live at the Barista Lavazza Expresso Bar, Fergusson College Road, Pune.

Mr. Ashwini Malhotra, MD Weikfield Agro, discussed a few important attributes of a CEO. He related these attributes to his own life and provided examples from the industry he was familiar with. He emphasised, It is very essential to be finance savvy and to be good with numbers. A CEO should weigh everything with numbers be it with his finance team or marketing team.” He explained how critical it was to adhere to one’s targets.

This earlier sessions of ‘Coffee with CEO’ were conducted in Pune, Mumbai and Indore along with Dr. Ganesh Natarajan, CEO Zensar Technologies, Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO Global Talent Track, Mr. Mukesh Malhotra, MD Weikfield, Mr Allwin Agnel, CEO Pagalguy, Mr. Sanjay Jha, Director Dale Carnegie, Ms Pallavi Jha, Chairman Walchand Talentfirst, Major Ashok Kaul, former CEO R K Films and Dr. Nikhil Agarwal, Director EABS.

According to Mr. Pradeep Bhargava, MD Cummins Generators, “The youth should understand the difference between a visiting card and a salary slip. Both are merely restricted to the office and will not help students on an individual basis hence one needs to work on a social level which will eventually work for them at an organizational level.”

Mr. Bhargava echoes his views with Mr. Malhotra regarding the importance of learning and believing. One can learn from their peers, can join various vocational courses or learn from their surroundings. Its just a matter of interest.

We brought coffee with CEO to the youth to provide a platform giving them an opportunity to interact with a CEO face to face. Todays youth have a lot of potential, they dont hesitate in talking about their career and that is what we experienced in all these sessions. We look forward to organize more such events in future after seeing the enthusiasm and response. concluded Dr. Nikhil Agarwal.
