PERCENTILE KA QTIYAPA Part III

Next question that’s in the line after taking the exam is “My attempts in Quant are A with B% accuracy and in Verbal it is C with D% accuracy. How much %ile can I expect??” I am sure such questions could send even the Quant masters in a dizzy… Then again we have many aspirants who go on bragging about their friend’s attempt rate and success ratio as a reply and justification to the above queries. For e.g. I read in some forum where an aspirant Mr. X had posted “I attempted 15 questions in each section with 90% accuracy. How much %ile can I expect”?? And to that replied another aspirant Mr. Y, “Last year, my friend attempted 15 questions in both sections with 90% accuracy and he got 98.xx%ile. So you can expect the same.” Having read that conversation the first impression which struck my mind was “Heights of dumbness” and I wondered what made that Mr. Y believe the accuracy rate of his friend’s attempts as even the actual scorecard does not reveal raw scores. But on a positive note, what is commendable about such questions is the aspirant’s judgment and confidence about the accuracy, especially in the Verbal part. Hats off to them!!! But then I wonder if they were so sure about their accuracy rate why they didn’t uncheck/unmark the wrong answers in the first place. Interesting…isn’t it!!!

So my point is, instead of speculating about the percentiles or mulling over it, better not to exhaust all your energies on worrying about your percentiles or start calculating it using your own algorithms. It’s Prometric’s headache to calculate the percentiles, not yours. I agree it is in human nature to get anxious about results. But there is no point in living in the world of illusion and pinning your hopes on the dhongi baba’s predictions or dashing your hopes on the basis of same. Instead, it would be better to channelize your thoughts into something constructive like preparing for other exams or for the next round of CAT etc. Live in the present. Do not ruin your present by worrying about tomorrow.

As the lines from “The Shawshank Redemption” goes- “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies”. So hope for the best but do not get anxious. Have faith in yourself. All the best ?
