IT and FMCG top at IIM-I’s summer placements

Summers at IIM Indore were remarkable for a variety of reasons: 95 companies expressed the intent to participate though only 58 could be accommodated this season.

On Day 0, a total of 133 offers were made, an increase of 82% over last year’s summer placement process. Of the 58 companies on campus, 23 were here for the first time. An average of 3.5 offers were made per company, which indicates the growing confidence shown by Corporate India in IIM Indore. As with everything else, the number of companies on campus has seen an increase of 23% over last year’s.

One of the key milestones was the participation of international companies and the quality of multi-national offers made. The internship offered by Olam International requires the summer intern to work across several countries across functions, all in a span of two months. Macquarie Bank offered internships for their real estate operations in Sydney, Australia.

One of the firsts for IIM Indore was the presence of reputed consulting firms for the summer placement process. Technopak Consulting and Jones Lang Lasalle visited IIM Indore for the first time and made offers for their consulting divisions. The major FMCG companies like HLL, ITC, Asian Paints along with first-timers such as Colgate-Palmolive, Reckitt Benckiser and Dabur also registered their presence in significant numbers offering a wide range of projects in the marketing and branding sphere. Lehman Brothers and J P Morgan offered Investment Banking profiles for the first time on campus. Retail giants like Reliance and RPG Group were also impressed with the profile of the 2007 batch and made a significant number of summer internship offers across different verticals.

Despite a 50% increase in batch size at IIM Indore over the previous year, our placements have seen unparalleled growth, registering significant gains. The numbers – though impressive – do not reveal the entire picture. The statistics are merely a validation of IIM Indore’s academic philosophy, which is anticipating the latest trends in management and in gearing up its entire management program to meet those trends. This has paid off rich dividends in the present; we hope to stay on this path of constant improvement to show continuous growth in the future too.
