In this series of articles, we take a look at the engineering college in Jammu & Kashmir that admit students on the basis of their performance in the JKCET.

Admissions to undergraduate engineering courses available at various engineering colleges in Jammu & Kashmir is conducted by the Jammu Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations.

Jammu & Kashmir is also home to other institutes of repute like the NIT Srinagar. The Union Government has proposed to establish an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Jammu and Kashmir.

This year, admission to engineering colleges in Jammu & Kashmir is based on JKCET (Jammu Kashmir Common Entrance Test) 2016. The exam will assess students’ knowledge in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam will consist of 2 papers, Paper 1 will have 60 questions each on Physics and Chemistry while Paper 2 on Mathematics will have 60 questions. Each question will carry one mark for every correct answer and will have a negative marking of 0.25 mark for every incorrect answer.

The Government College of Engineering & Technology is based in Jammu and is affiliated to University of Jammu. The institute was established in 1994 and is approved by AICTE, New Delhi.

The institute has all the necessary infrastructure like computing facilities, library,cafeteria, health centre, sports facility and transport facility.

The college has a training and placement cell to guide students during internships and final placements. The college has Industry-Institute Partnership of which the students can be apart and help them get industry ready.

The institute offers undergraduate programs in Civil engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication engineering and Mechanical Engineering. The student intake for various branches is –
