Finance and IT dominate SIBM 2008 placements

A total of 93 recruiters spanning domestic geographies as well as international recruiters, participated to recruit the management talent available. The average number of offers stood at 1.4 offers per student.

Along with the regular recruiters such as Asian Paints, Dabur, Godrej Industries, IBM, ITC, Infosys Technologies, Intel, JP Morgan Services and Wipro; this year was marked by the participation of new global recruiters like Jumbo Electronics and Protiviti Inc., with SIBM’s relationship with Olam International still standing. The campus saw a spate of new domestic recruiters across various sectors like Barclays Bank, Birlasoft India, Cummins India, CFC International, Essar Group, GE India, Hewitt Associates, Mu Sigma Business Services, Oracle India, Pepsico, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Sun Microsystems, Sybase, Virgin Mobile and UBS, to name a few. The Consulting space saw increased participation with recruiters like Avalon Consulting, Capgemini Consulting, Hewitt Associates, Mercer, Mu Sigma Business Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Protiviti Inc.

The average compensation touched a new pinnacle of Rs. 10.38 lakhs p.a., which was an increase of 20 pc over the previous year and median compensation stood at Rs 9.62 lakhs. The highest international offer was made by Olam International at $85,000, while the highest domestic offer stood at Rs. 14 lakhs p.a. offered by Hewitt Associates, which was up by nearly 35 pc from last year’s level. The lowest accepted salary was Rs 7 lakhs p.a. The number of offers above Rs. 10 lakhs p.a. touched a figure of 53.

First time recruiters, Jumbo Electronics and Protiviti Inc., with our regular recruiter Olam International made 11 offers. The profiles offered were for positions in Africa, Dubai, Kuwait, and Singapore.

SIBM conducted a separate placement term for students with prior work experience. Lateral students, with experience in sectors as diverse as IT & ITES, Banking & Financial Services, FMCG and Manufacturing were made offers from Avalon Consulting, Birlasoft, Capgemini, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Cummins India, CFC International, Grow Talent, HCL Technologies, Infosys Technologies, IBM India, KPIT Cummins, Patni Computer Systems, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Sun Microsystems. A total of 70 lateral offers were made, out of which 43 were accepted.

Major FMCG players participated in the recruitment process including Agro Tech Foods, Asian Paints, Castrol, Coca-Cola India, Dabur, GlaxoSmithKline, Godfrey Philips, Heinz, Godrej Industries, ITC, L’Oreal, Pepsico, Perfetti Van Melle, Reckitt Benckiser and SABMiller. Over 12 pc of the batch got recruited into FMCG sector.

A total of 62 offers were made in the IT and ITES sector. The participants in this sector included 3i Infotech, Birlasoft, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Hewlett Packard India, HCL Technologies, Infosys Technologies, Infosys BPO, Intel, IBM India, Oracle India, Patni Computer Systems, Satyam Computer Systems, Sun Microsystems, Sybase, and Wipro. More than 22 pc of the batch accepted offers in this sector.

The first time recruiter PricewaterhouseCoopers made an astonishing 11 offers. The others were Avalon Consulting, Capgemini Consulting, Grow Talent, Hewitt Associates, IMRB International, Mercer, Mindtree Consulting, and Mu Sigma Business Solutions. The international offers in this sector were made by Protiviti Inc.

The Banking sector saw new relationships being established with organizations like Barclays Bank, JM Financial and UBS India Services. Past recruiters at SIBM like BA Continuum, CFC International, Fidelity Business Services, HSBC Bank, HSBC Asset Management, JP Morgan Services, Kotak Mahindra, Morgan Stanley Advantage Services, SEBI, STCI and Tata Capital continued their relationship with the institute. The telecom sector saw increased participation and first time recruiter Virgin Mobile. Previous recruiters like Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone returned to recruit from SIBM again. Participation from the core manufacturing industries and consumer durables saw an upward swing with Cummins India, Goodyear, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors and Whirlpool being the star recruiters in this arena.
