1.Chris Froome won Tour De France

a) The 30 year old Team sky rider Chris Froome of Britain has won 102nd Tour de France cycling race.

b) This is Froome’s 2nd Tour de France title. He previously won the Tour de France title back in 2011. With this victory, he has become the first Briton to win the title twice.

c) Chris Froome beat Colombian cyclist Nairo Quintana Rojas by 1 minute & 12 seconds. Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde secured the 3rd position.

d) This is the 3rd victory for Team Sky of Britain. Bradley Wiggins claimed the 1st victory for Team Ky in 2012 & Chris Froome won the titles in 2013 & 2015.

2. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana launched.

a) PM Narendra Modi has launched Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for power sector reforms in rural India to ensure clock electricity supply to farmers & rural households.

b) This scheme is a flagship programme of Power Ministry with objective to provide 24×7 power supply.

c) The important aspects of this scheme are feeder separation, strengthening of sub transmission & distribution network, metering at all levels of rural areas, micro grid & off grid distribution of network & Rural electrification.

d) The existing scheme, Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) will get replaced by this scheme.

3. Sebastian Vettel wins Hungarian Grand Prix

a) German driver Sebastian Vettel has claimed victory for Ferrari in Hungarian Grand Prix. This is his 2nd victory of the season after his previous victory in Malaysian Grand Prix 2015.

b) Sebastian Vettel is four-time Formula one world champion with his championship victories in 2010,2011,2012 & 2013 with Red Bull Racing team.

c) Daniil Kvyat (Russia) & Daniel Ricciardo (Australia) from Red Bull team secured the 2nd & 3rd position in the race respectively. Defending champion Lewis Hamilton (UK) secured sixth position.

4. 16th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrated

a) 16th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated across the country on 26th July, 2015. Indian Army defeated the Army of Pakistan in the Kargil war on this day in 1999.

b) The Kargil war was fought for more than 60 days. Both the sides, India & Pakistan incurred heavy loss of lives. In the memory of Kargil War heroes, the Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26th of July.

c) Operation Vijay was the name of the Indian Operation to clear the Kargil & Dras sectors of infiltrators.

5. 700 generic drugs are banned by EU for manipulation of trials.

a) European Union has banned around 700 different generic drugs for alleged manipulation of clinical trials by the Hyderabad based pharmaceutical company GVK Biosciences.

b) The executive body of EU the European Commission ordered the suspension on these drugs applicable on all 28 member nations of EU.

c) On the recommendation by the EU’s drug regulatory agency, European Medicines Agency (EMA) this ban was ordered by EU. EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) had examined marketing authorisation of 1000 drugs on the basis of bioequivalence studies conducted by GVK Biosciences.

6. P.R. Chari nuclear disarmament advocate passes away.

a) P.R.Chari, a noted supporter of nuclear disarmament has passed away in New Delhi. He was in the service of Defence ministry of Indian Government as IAS officer. He was also a former Director of Institute of Defence & Strategic Analysis (IDSA) from 1975-80.

b) Mr. Chari has published more than 1400 op-ed articles, 130 monographs & major papers abroad and in India.

c) P.R.Chari was also a co-founder of the Institute for Peace & Conflict studies in New Delhi.

7. Rajahmundry city to be renamed.

a) The city of Rajahmundry in East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh will be renamed by the Andhra Pradesh state government as Rajamahendravaram.

b) The Rajamahendravaram is an ancient name derived from a 11th century ruler of Eastern Chalukya Dynasty Raja Raja Narendra who ruled the city around 1022A.D.

c) The city acquired its current name Rajahmundry in the British period.

8. Italy seeks judgement from ITLOS in Marines case.

a) The Italian government is seeking the judgment from the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) in Marines case. ITLOS is one the four forums available for international disputes in this case.

b) Italy wishes that India should refrain from taking or enforcing any judicial or administrative measures and ensure that the restrictions on liberty, security & movement of the Marines are lifted immediately.

c) ITLOS is an intergovernmental organisation formed by mandate of the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea in 1982 to settle disputes between party states.

d) The other three forums to solve an international disputes are, the International Court of Justice, an arboreal tribunal constituted in accordance with Annex VII to the convention & a special arbitral tribunal constituted in accordance with Annex VIII to the convention.

9. CSC & HCL joint ventured for banking software & services.

a) Global IT companies like Computer Science Corporation (CSC) & Hindustan Computer Limited (HCL) has come together to form banking softwares & services.

b) This joint venture will focus on multi billion dollar global core banking software market by investing in platform modernisation, product functionality enhancement & by capitalising on capabilities of both the companies.

10. One of the largest flower in the world bloomed in Tokyo

a) World’s largest flower Amorphophallus Titanum commonly known as corpse flower has bloomed in Jindai botanical garden, Tokyo for the first time in five years.

b) This flower is extremely rare and it towers up to 6.5 feet. It is called as a corpse flower because it smells like rotten meat.

c) This flower originally belongs to steep hillside regions of rainforests of Western Sumatra in Indonesia. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has declared this flower as vulnerable due to the deforestation in this region.
