1. Deep Depression in the Arabian Sea intensified into Ashooba cyclonic storm

(i) The deep depression in the Arabian sea has intensified into cyclonic storm, ‘Ashooba’ and it is expected to further develop into a super cyclonic storm in next 24 – 36 hours the weather department notified of Monday.

(ii) Jayant Sarkar, Director of the Meteorological Centre said, the cyclone is moving gradually towards Oman however the fishermen in Gujarat have been warned as strong winds, heavy rainfall and overall rough sea conditions are expected.

2. R C Tayal appointed as new Director General of National Security Guard (NSG)

(i) The Union Home Ministry has cleared the name of R C Tayal, a senior IPS officer has for the post of new chief of the elite counter terror force National Security Guard (NSG)

(ii) He is an IPS officer of the 1980 batch, Assam -Meghalaya Cadre at present serving as the Director General in paramilitary CRPF

(iii) The post fell vacant after Chief J N Chaudhury retired on May 31st, 2015.

3. Rana Kapoor to take over as Yes Bank’s MD, CEO

(i) Yes Bank’s shareholder approved 12 resolutions which included the reappointed of Rana Kapoor as MD and CEO of the bank on Saturday.

(ii) The resolution as approved by the Yes Bank share-holders will need the consent of Bombay High Court as Madhu Kapur the widow of co-founder Ashok Kapur has challenged the same resolution.

4.  G7 Summit kicks off in Bavaria, Germany

(i) US President Barack Obama, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, UK PM David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, Canada’s PM Stephen Harper and the Italian PM were welcome by German Chancellor Angela Merkel ahead of the G7 summit. Russia has been excluded from what was previously known as the G8, since the annexation of Crimea last year.

(ii) The leaders are to discuss the Greek debt crisis, the threat posed worldwide by jihadist terrorism, how to tackle global warming and corruption in the context of the FIFA scandal.

(iii) Amid the G7 meets, thousand of demonstrators were demanding the richest nations to take concrete measures to combat climate change, to promote fair trade and food security, to reduce poverty worldwide and to rescue migrants from Africa and the Middle East taking a perilous journey across the Mediterranean to reach Europe among other international issue.

5. Stan Wawrinka wins French Open

(i) Stan Wawrinka, the Swiss eight seed played a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-4 game to win his career’s first French Open title.

(ii) Novak Djokovic the World No. 1 was taken by surprise by the consistent performance of Wawrinka.

(iii) The victory makes him only the second Swiss to win at Roland Garros after Roger Federer, the man he beat in the quarter-finals.
