1. 
GST Bill passed in Lok Sabha

i. Goods and Service Tax (GST) passed in the Lok Sabha today, paving the way for a new bill on the uniform tax regime, even as the Congress Party staged a walkout in protest.

ii. The Constitution Amendment Bill to implement GST, originally mooted by the UPA, was passed by 352 votes against 37 after the government rejected the opposition demand of referring it to a standing committee.

iii. GST, which is proposed to be implemented from April 1, 2016, will subsume excise, service tax, state VAT, entry tax, octroi and other state levies.

iv. Before the mammoth voting session involving a number of amendments, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley once again vowed to compensate states for any revenue loss and assured that the new uniform indirect tax rate will be much less than 27% recommended by an expert panel.

2. Lu Ping, Chinese diplomat passed away

i. Lu Ping, the Chinese diplomat passed away in Beijing. He was 87.

ii. He was the Chief negotiator during the transfer of Hong Kong to China, termed Hong Kong’s last British Governor Chris Patten (1992-1997).

3. Surface-to-air short range Akash missile inducted in Indian Army

i. Akash missile system inducted into the Indian Army. It is a surface-to-air short ranged defence system developed by the Defence Research Development Laboratory.

ii. It can evaluate and track danger and is capable of launching missile on the basis of information obtained by the radar systems. DRDO has been working on it since 1983.

iii. This missile has a range from 3 to 25 km. It has an altitude from as low as 30 metres going upto 20 kms. It flies several macs, upto 2.5 mac.”

4. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme launched in Goa

i. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme’ was launched by Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar today in the state level ‘in Panaji. The objective of the scheme is to empower the girl child and enable her education.

ii. North Goa is among 100 districts selected from across the country to implement the central government scheme on pilot basis.

Michael Blake passed away

i. Oscar-winning author and screenwriter
Michael Blake has passed away, He was 69.

ii. He was passed away in in Tucson,
Arizona following a long illness, confirmed his manager and producer Daniel
Ostroff, who’s working on the film’s sequel, The Holy Road.

iii. He got the fame by one of his penned novel
Dances With Wolves.
