1. International conclave Samvad held in New Delhi 

(i) On September 5, Modi visited Bodh Gaya in Bihar, which is the most important Buddhist pilgrimage as that is where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment.

(ii) Modi’s visit coincided with ‘Samvad’ – Global Hindu Buddhist Initiative on Conflict Avoidance and Environment Consciousness’, which was organised to discuss rising incidents of conflict, terrorism and issues due to climate change across the world. 

(iii) Delegates from 90 countries, including former Sri
Lankan president Chandrika Kumaratunga and foreign ministers of Japan, Myanmar,
Nepal, Bhutan, Taiwan and other Buddhist countries, attended the meet. 

2. Union Ministry bans multi-dose vials of diclofenac

(i) As the Asian Vulture has been on the verge of extinction, the Union Health Ministry has banned multi-dose vials of human formulations of the painkiller  diclofenac to protect the species. 

(ii) In 2006, most of the vulture population was annihilated due to this drug. 

(iii) Chris Bowden, Globally Threatened Species Officer and Programme Manager for SAVE (Saving Asia’s Vultures from Extinction) called it one of the biggest conservation actions taken to protect the much-neglected species.

3. UK India’s largest FDI investor among G20 countries

(i) UK has emerged as the largest investor in India among all other G20 countries. 

(ii) Between 2000 and 2015, UK’s FDI to India made for 9% of the total FDI in the country –  $22 billion.

(iii) Of the total $73.9 billion invested by G20 countries, largest sum was invested by UK, followed by Japan ($18.3 billion), US ($13.7 billion), Germany ($ 7.6 billion) and France ($ 4.5 billion). In the 15-year period, UK’s FDI created around 138,000

direct jobs, 7% of the total 1.96 million jobs generated by FDI in India.

4. Odisha govt. renames Wheeler Island as Abdul Kalam Island

(i) Odisha government recently renamed the Wheeler Island as Adbul Kalam Island as a tribute to late Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam and his contributions to India’s missile technology. 

(ii) Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the Wheeler Island, which is the missile launching station of Defence and Research Development Organisation (DRDO), had played a major role in test fires and Dr Kalam had contributed hugely for the same.

5. WEF Report 2015 released – India fares low

(i) A two-year study on income inequality was released recently by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and India fared miserably low in it. 

(ii) Titled ‘Inclusive Growth and Development Report

2015’, it ranks India 37th out of 38 lower-middle-income countries in fiscal transfers.

(iii) In the

category of ‘asset building and entrepreneurship’, especially the sub-pillar ‘small business

ownership’, India ranked lowest (38th).  

(iv) However, India fared better in some areas- eighth in

‘corruption and rents’ category, sixth and 12th in the sub-pillars of ‘concentration of rents and

business’ and ‘political ethics’ respectively. 

6. Hindi writer Uday Prakash to return Sahitya Akademi award 

(i) Hindi writer and recipient of Sahitya Akademi award, Uday Prakash, has decided to return his award in protest against the murder of Kannada scholar and rationalist M.M.Kalburgi. 

(ii) He announced through a Facebook post that he would return the award, the prize money of  Rs.1 lakh and the citation. 

(iii) He wrote, “Prof. Kalburgi’s murder was part of a series of attacks on and instances of disrespect shown towards writers, artists, thinkers and intellectuals.”

7.  Haryana govt. bags the Skoch Order-of-Merit national award

(i) The Haryana government has won the Skoch Order-of-Merit national award  for implementing six e-governance and IT initiatives in the state.

(ii)  This award is bestowed upon high performing government organisations and private organisations working with the government by Skoch Consultancy Services Private Limited, a strategy and management consulting firm founded in 1997.

(iii) The award will be presented to the state on 22-23 September, 2015.

8. Gagan Narang No. 1 in men’s 50m rifle prone shooting

(i) Indian shooter and Olympic medallist Gagan Narang ascended to the number one spot in men’s 50-metre rifle prone shooting category in Asia. 

(ii) As per the latest score, Narang has 971 points to  his credit while China’s Shengbo Zhao is placed second with 896 points.

(iii) Beijing Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, was ranked fifth in 10-metre air rifle followed by Narang in the seventh position.

9. Lewis Hamilton wins the 2015 Italian Grand Prix 

(i) Lewis Hamilton of Britain won the 2015 Italian Grand Prix Formula 1 finals, which was held at Monza, Italy. 

(ii) This was Hamilton’s seventh title in 2015 and third victory at Monza, the first being in 2012 and second in 2014. 

(iii) He has the record of being the first British racer to have 40 wins.
