1. PM Narendra Modi to attend Mega rally in Mathura

(i) PM Narendra Modi is to address a rally in Mathura, to mark the birth place of Jan Sangh’s ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyay and the completion of NDA government’s one year in office.

(ii) On this occasion, Modi presented a report card of his government and promised 24 x 7 electricity and housing for all by 2022 among other things.

(iii) The BJP has planned nearly 200 public rallies by its senior leaders across the country with a view to address the mounting criticism over PM’s foreign visits, slowing economic reforms and pro – industrialist policies.

2. 21 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Proposals worth Rs.280.70 Crore cleared by Government

 (i) The Government has cleared 21 FDI proposals based on the recommendation of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board.

(ii) The important proposals that have been cleared include La Renon Healthcare, Gujarat Rs.100 crore for FDI in brownfield pharmaceutical company, Rs. 52.8 – 69 crore by Blue Dart Express for acquisitions of shares in blue Dart Aviations Limited and Rs. 3.55 crore by Montblanc Services B.V, Netherlands(holding 51 per cent shares) and Titan Company Limited, India (holding 49 per cent shares) among others.

(iii)  In addition the government decided to defer 12 proposals and seven proposals were rejected.

3. Noble Awardee John Nash Jr. passed away in an car crash

(i) John Nash, a noble prize winner in economics, who was also the subject of the movie, ‘A Beautiful Mind’ died in a car crash  along his wife in New Jersey.

(ii) Nash was awarded the Noble Prize in Economics in 1994 for his work on Game Theory. He was a professor at Princeton University.

(iii)Nash’s theory of non – cooperative games, published in 1950 and known as Nash Equilibrium provided a conceptually simple but powerful mathematical tool for analysing a wide range of competitive situations, be it corporate rivalries or legislative decision making.

4. China sets up largest gold fund along the Silk Route

(i)China, the world’s biggest gold producer has set up a gold sector fund involving countries along the ancient Silk Route.

(ii) The fund led by the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) is expected to raise 100 billion yuan. The fund led by the Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE)  will be raised in three phases and has been set up in north western X’ian city.

 (iii) About 60 countries have invested in the fund , which will in turn  facilitate gold purchase for the central banks of member states to increase  their holdings of the precious metal. 

5. IPL 8 Final: Mumbai Indians celebrate their second IPL victory

(i) Mumbai Indians won IPL 8 final against Chennai Super Kings leading by 41 runs on Sunday.

(ii) Rohit Sharma was announced as the Man of the Match, with the score of 50 runs off 26 balls. Mumbai was 1 for 1 in the first over after Chennai won the toss and decided to field. 

(iii) This is the second IPL victory for the Mumbai Indian team in the IPL Series.
