1. Karnataka lifted eighth Ranji title

i. Karnataka
lifted Ranji Trophy today by defeating Tamil Nadu by an innings and 217
runs on the last day of the final match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.


ii
. Karnataka batsman Karun Nair
won the man-of the-match award for his maiden triple century
(338) in first-class cricket.

iii. With this win Karnataka won 8th in Ranji title
and made become the second most successful team after 40-time champions Mumbai.

iv. Karnatka also became the second
team in the Ranji Trophy to defend the title on more than one occasion. They
had retained the title in 1997-98 and 1998-99 in the past.

Brief scores: Tamil Nadu 134 all out, 411 all out (Dinesh
Karthik 120, Vijay Shankar 103; Shreyas Gopal 4/126; Vinay Kumar 2/43)) lose to
Karnataka 762 all out. Karnataka win by an innings and 217 runs.

2. Govt. appointed 9 Executive Directors in
Public Sector Banks

i. The
Government of India today appointed nine Executive Directors in Public Sector
Banks. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointments.

ii. The
appointment of nine Executive
Directors in 9 Public Sector Banks are as follows:

1. Mr Charan
Singh – New Executive Director of UCO Bank

2. Mr K.Venkata
Rama Moorthy – New Executive Director of Bank of Baroda.

3. Mr R.P.Marathe
– New Executive Director of Bank of India

4. Mr Harideesh Kumar B – New Executive
Director of Canara Bank.

5. Mr
N.K.Sahoo – New Executive Director of Allahabad Bank

6. Mr Pawan
Kumar Bajaj – New Executive Director of Indian Overseas Bank.

7. Mr Ravi
Shankar Pandey  – New Executive Director
of Syndicate Bank

8. Mr Kishore
Piraji Kharat – New Executive Director of Union Bank of India.

9. Mr
R.C.Lodha – New Executive Director of Central Bank of India.

3. Zebpay introduces bitcoin mobile wallet in India

i. Zebpay today introduces its
‘bitcoin’ mobile wallet in the country, by which a user can buy, sell and transact
in bitcoins which is presently valued at around $280 per unit.

ii. Bitcoins are digital money that are generated and their value is
determined based on their demand and supply. The wallet, which is
in form of a mobile application.

iii. Zebpay co-founder Sandeep Goenka said” Zebpay application
is available on Android platform and we are talking to 15 merchants in India
who will accept bitcoins.

4. India & Norway will work together on
climate change

i. India has team up with Norway to understand
the global climate change, and to study about the Indian monsoon.

ii. Both the countries will also help in the
study about the linkages between climatic variations in the polar region.

iii. Science and Technology Minister, Harsh
Vardhan said in Rajya Sabha today that India is maintaining a research base
called Himadri in the Arctic.

5. K Baskaran, Veteran sports
journalist passed away

i. Veteran sports journalist K Baskaran passed away following
a brief illness. He was 80.

ii. Baskaran reports the news related to football from all
over the country.
He also authored a book on football titled Wills Book of Football.

6. BSFI to launch IPL-style cue sport league

i. Billiards and Snooker Federation of India,
BSFI today announced that it will launch an IPL-style franchise-based cue sport
league, featuring Indian and foreign players between June and August.
ii. Each match in the Cue Slam,
featuring eight franchise-based cities which are yet to be identified, will
have a billiards, a snooker and three pool games and would finish within one
hour to suit the needs of television.
iii. Jason Ferguson, chairman of
World Professional Billiards and Snooker Federation said the world body and the
BSFI would work together to see that the League takes off smoothly.

7. Saina Nehwal ranked no. 2 in World ranking

i. Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal has ranked number
two in World ranking after her splendid performance at the All England
Badminton championship last week.

ii. After
reaching in the final of All England
Badminton championship, Saina became the first Indian to achieve this feat.

ii. Before All England championship, Saina was
ranked no.4 in the World.
