UPSC Civil Services Exam Information

Union Public Service Commission annually conducts UPSC Civil Services Exam for recruitment of candidates to various services that fall under the Government such as Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Foreign Services (IFS), Indian Revenue Services (IRS) etc. The exam is conducted in 3 stages – Preliminary, Main Examination and Personality Test.

The Mains Examination is concluded for 2018-19 recruitment process and candidates are currently awaiting the UPSC Mains Result which is scheduled to be released in January 2019. Interview process is expected to begin from March/April 2019 and the entire recruitment process will be concluded by April/June of 2019. In 2019, the UPSC exam is scheduled for 2nd June 2019.

In 2018, the UPSC released 780 vacancies [the lowest in the past 4 years] and the structure of the exam remain unchanged from the previous years. The exam is open to all candidates who hold a graduation degree from a recognised university. The maximum number of attempts allowed for open category candidates is 6 attempts.

UPSC CSE Important Dates

For the Civil Services Examination 2018, the notification was released by UPSC in February 2018. The Preliminary Exam was conducted on 3rd June 2018 and the result was released on 14th July. The Mains Exam took place from 28th to 30th of October and 6th to 7th of November. UPSC Prelim 2019 is scheduled for 2nd June 2019.

UPSC CSE Eligibility

Candidates applying for UPSC CSE must hold a Bachelors degree (Graduation) of any University/deemed to be University by UGC/any university recognised by the Government of India. Candidate must fall in the age bracket of more than 21 years of age and less than 32 years if applying as a general candidate. Nationality criteria may vary as per service selection.

UPSC CSE Registration

Applications for UPSC Civil Services are accepted in online mode only and aspirants can apply via the official website – upsc.gov.in. UPSC CSE 2018 Application Forms for the Preliminary Exam were made available in February 2018. UPSC CSE 2019 forms will be made available in February 2019 for Prelim which is scheduled for 2nd June 2019.

UPSC CSE Exam Pattern

UPSC CSE Exam is conducted in 3 stages –  Preliminary, Mains and Personality Test (Interview). The CSE Preliminary Exam is open to all eligible candidates who apply for the exam and is an objective test comprising two papers. If candidate qualifies the prelim, the next stage, i.e., the Mains exam entails 2 qualifying and 7 merit-based papers all in written (pen and paper) mode. The final stage in UPSC selection process in Personality Test (Interview round).
