Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee completes 20 years of excellence in academic rigour and thought leadership. It has been at the forefront of grooming business leaders and impacting management practices.

The Institute has grown significantly in its activities, programmes, intellectual output something which is reflective in the burgeoning number of projects it ropes up both with government and with industry associations. Some of the notable highlights in the last two decades are: Collaboration with National Foundation of Corporate Governance (a setup under Ministry of Corporate Affairs) and organized a Workshop on "Corporate Governance", conducted a workshop on ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and e-Governance by Secretary, Urban Development, Planning and Externally Assisted Programs, Mr. Amarendra Sinha.

The Institute also witnessed a surge in eminent and new recruiters and creation of a rich and strongly networked alumni base. Recognition and accolades for such hard work and dedication have come aplenty foremost being ranked 9th in NIRF Ranking 2018. Such exponential growth is the result of institute being in hands of able leader, our Head of the Department, Dr. Zillur Rahman, who has been facilitated with “Faculty Research Award” for being one of the top five most productive authors in the field of Business, Management and Accounting. We are sure the Department will continue its meteoric rise and add many fruitful years while contributing to nation-building.

The budding techno-managers come from diverse background, have varied skillset with plenty of industry experience, are filled with energy to the brim and have a tremendous hunger to achieve.  

Guided by highly accomplished faculty they have new heights to achieve. 

The Department is proud to present the Clubs for the batch of MBA 2018-2020. The Clubs are the interest groups that comprise of enthusiasts related to a particular field, with their concerns lying in self-learning and knowledge sharing. They pursue the objective of familiarizing the batch with industry-specific developments and best practices. They also shoulder the responsibility of appraising the students of different certifications that relate to their specializations and proclivities. The onus of conduction of relevant guest sessions to further student’s knowledge lies with the Clubs.

The vibrant and energetic new members encompass all the elements of quality expeditors to cultivate and advance batch inclinations towards their domains. Each team member with high comprehension of his/her relative subjects is dedicated to working for resolving batch queries with respect to their future prospects in their choice of field. They aim at maximizing students’ knowledge by providing them with concise, to the point, effective information and subsequently removing any scope of irresolution; thus staying true to their purpose.

Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee has proved its mettle once again in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2019 released on 26th September 2018. Owing to its intellectual throughput in form of research publications aided by a highly experienced faculty, DoMS, IIT Roorkee has been ranked 1st in Business and Management among all engineering institutions in India. The result is a reflection of hard work and subscription to higher ethos. 

IIT Roorkee has moved up by 100 ranks from 501-600 (2018) to 401-500 (2019) in the overall global score and has been adjudged the third best university in India.

DoMS, IIT Roorkee is proud to unveil the set of new faces in charge of the prestigious student-run committees which facilitate and manage the various events and activities throughout the year in the department. From managing the vital frontline placements by assisting the recruiters to organize guest lectures for an indispensable exchange between academia and industry, to fostering community relations with external stakeholders through several media handles, to organizing the annual sports extravaganza, committees are the lubricant which brings the department to life.  

They have been selected through a rigorous process and have big boots to fill in. Here's hoping that their collective effort will take DoMS, IIT Roorkee to a new height.

Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee had the privilege of hosting Mr. Nana Vijayanagaram, Associate Director at KPMG India for a session on Lean Six Sigma spanning 3 days. Possessing 25 years of International experience in handling assessments, reviews & implementation in IT Quality Assurance & Process Improvement Mr. Nana is a seasoned expert in Regulatory Audits, Management consulting & Business Excellence. Mr. Nana briefed about the inception of Six Sigma, highlighted the significance of various phases clubbed with his real-life Corporate, Industrial and personal anecdotes to enhance the learning acquired by the students. With the mounting competition in the corporate world, industry’s inclination towards process optimization has grown and methods under Six Sigma are currently the most effective approaches utilized by several business entities to minimize the possibility of error. The session was a blend of theoretical aspects regarding Ideal Corporate policies as well as processes & technical aspects backed by Mr. Nana’s witty arguments & incidents, which made the learning quite insightful.

It is a matter of utmost pride for DoMS, IIT Roorkee, as two of our students, Aniket Masurekar and Navneet Goswami, brought accolades to our institution. They secured the Second position in E Conjecture, the Finance and Economics event, a part of Atharv - IIM Indore's Management & Cultural Fest, the Management Fest of Indian Institute of Management, Indore.
 

DoMS, IIT Roorkee had the privilege of hosting Mr. Nitin Saini, Director SCM (B2C) at Philips Lighting for a session on Supply Chain Management. Having 17 years of experience in Strategic Sourcing, Logistics Management, and Supply Chain Planning, Mr Saini is a seasoned expert in Supply Chain Management. He talked about the objectives, project prioritization, demand and supply planning and strategies in a supply chain. The session concluded with Q&A, giving students the opportunity to have their questions answered.

Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee celebrated the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the chief architecture of the Indian Independence movement, the 105th birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, 2nd prime minister of India and the 12th world non-violence day.   

The event started with a soulful rendition of the Raghupati Raghav and was followed by a speech by the Director Prof. Dr. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi. A faculty from each religion representing the milieu of kaleidoscopic and syncretic existence read out a passage from their holy books espousing ideas of pluralistic existence so close to the heart of Gandhiji.   

The event ended with the singing of Vaishnav Jan by the cultural club.  

DoMS, IIT Roorkee hosted one of the most momentous event-  Reminiscence'18. An aura of excitement and nostalgia set in as the seniors and juniors united and took a trip down the memory lane.   

The event embarked upon the felicitation of seniors by juniors. The night was full of action-packed performances by the super junior batch, followed by dinner and DJ party, where everybody rocked the dance floor. 

It is a matter of utmost pride for DoMS, IIT Roorkee as three of our 2nd-year students, Snehashis Khan, Pavankumar S and Asawari Bhagat managed to crack top six among a pool of over 1800 teams in the final round of Sustain, The Red Brick Summit (TRBS) 2018 held at IIM Ahmedabad.

Sustain 2018 was a B-Plan competition with a focus on Sustainable Management and Sustainable Business Practices.  

We congratulate Team Euphoria for making it to the final round. Their sincere efforts and hard work are indeed highly appreciated. 

Atibha, the CSR team of DoMS IIT Roorkee, hosted a very remarkable event of the year- BHOR 2018. The event is organized for students of Anushruti, a school for the differently-abled and underprivileged children. 

The fun cultural event commenced with an Origami-making workshop along with a drawing competition that showcased students' artistic skills. A heartwarming Mime act and an energizing dance performance by the students were the prime highlights of the program. Various games and fun activities set for a jovial atmosphere. The event was concluded by handing out certificates of achievement and medals, followed by snacks distribution. 

DoMS, IIT Roorkee was graced by the esteemed presence of Mr Ajit Singh, Vice President HR at Encore Capital Group. He is rated among the top HR professionals in the country and has served across geography rendering his services to leading organisations. Accolades have come aplenty chief.  

His session dealt majorly with how the industry is dealing with talent retention by creating a culture of belonging, making an emotional connection and focusing on employee experience. Organizations in today's VUCA world need to think creatively on meeting talent needs by planning proactively for emerging talent needs.   

Encore Capital group has created a culture of diversity and has been named in the top 100 companies to work for women. 

DoMS, IIT Roorkee was graced by the presence of the Associate Director of CARE Ratings Ltd., Mr Manek Narang.   

Mr Narang shared invaluable insights into the ratings and financial analysis of large corporations across varied sectors. For proper and accurate valuation of a company's growth opportunities, he emphasized on Porter's Five Forces and Du Pont Model with which a company's strategy's potential profitability could be identified.   

The event concluded with the guest addressing student queries and presentation of memento. 

 

Samadhan, IIT Roorkee, the Consulting Club of DoMS, IIT Roorkee conducted an interactive case study on B2B E-commerce in India. The event touched upon the differentiating aspect of B2B from B2C and how the former is more relationship driven and unorganized in India.

The team highlighted the immense potential that can be realized by bringing B2B to online space as is being done through various B2B platforms operating in India and how they can learn from hugely successful Alibaba model in China. This idea can have a significant impact on the supply chain and business procurement across the industry.

 Paradigm, the Digital Marketing club of DoMS, IIT Roorkee, conducted "The Trivia Master"- an interactive quizzing session to test the digital marketing knowledge of the batch.   

The quiz consisted of three rounds, the story round, picture connect round and culminated with a rapid-fire round in which the final three teams battled it out for the top spot and exciting prizes.   

The winners of the quiz competition were as follows:

2) Mohnish Yadav & Shivangi Tripathi and

3) Shaurya Mishra & Ashwani Kapasya

DoMS, IIT Roorkee was graced by the presence of maestros of Indian classical music, all thanks to MANTHAN organized by SPICMACAY. 

The event running into four days had the spiritual Dhrupad sung by Ustad Wasiffudin Dagar, highly devotional Gurbani by Shri Alankar Singh and the sonorous Sitar played by Shri Shubendra Rao. 

The event represented the rich spectrum of Indian classical music through established artists with rich lineage, blessings of Goddess Saraswati and years of practice behind them.

On the auspicious eve of Maha Ashtami, the students of DoMS, IIT Roorkee came together to celebrate Durga Puja and Navratri Dandiya with great fervour. 

The event was organized by Athena - The Cultural Club of the Department. Students came dressed in traditional attire and the atmosphere electrified when the music started playing and everyone started grooving to the Dandiya beats. Circling round and round with the sound of the wood striking another and the ornate beauty of the music blending with the colourful ambience had everyone enthralled.
