The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) class 10th and 12th supplementary exam which was previously scheduled to be held on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 now stands cancelled on the occasion of the bandh was declared by a group in the state of Punjab.

The reason for bandh is protests taking place at several areas in Punjab as a temple dedicated to Guru Ravidas, believed to be visited by the Guru around 1509 during the reign of Sikander Lodhi, was demolished in New Delhi’s Tughlakabad area on the directions of the apex court.

Due to this, schools in many districts were shut and hence the board had to postpone the exam. Also, the Dalit outfits have called for a bandh, therefore, schools and colleges in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur also remained closed.

The subjects for which exam was scheduled to be held on August 13th includes Class 10th science, the last compartment exam for class 10th, class 12th political science, physics, and business studies.  For class 12th the exam would have continued till August 17th.

As per the controller of examination, PSEB, the board will announce the revised exam dates soon.  A PSEB representative has informed, “We have not got reports of any bandh henceforth if the situation remains normal the exam schedule will not be changed.”

The compartment exam was conducted for students who could not clear the PSEB or Punjab Board exams in their first attempt giving them a provision to clear the exam in the second attempt.  The students will be eligible to take admission in university/college only after clearing this exam.
