My Take along with reasoning....

my problems in sentence correction.... try these....

1. The pattern of whisker spot on the face of a male lion, like human fingerprints, are a lifelong means of identification, since they are both unique and unchanging.

(B) like human fingerprints, is a lifelong means of identification, since it is both unique and unchanging

as fingerprints are singular and are a "lifelong means of identifiation" not "a means of identification for whole life"
Plus both the options containing Both in the beginning can easily be ruled out as the para has not introduced the second item,i.e.,Fingerprints

2. The peaks of a mountain range, acting like rocks in a streambed, produce ripples in the air flowing over them: the resulting flow pattern, with crests and troughs that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly, are known as standing waves.

(C) crests and troughs that remain stationary although the air that forms them is moving rapidly, is

To break this one lets just ignore the error line "the resulting flow pattern___ known as Standing waves" the only word that fits here is "IS" this zeroes down the choices to whtevr ends with is rest i think is mostly correct

3. The period when the great painted caves at Lascaux and Altamira were occupied by Upper Paleolithic people has been established by carbon-14 dating, but what is much more difficult to determine are the reason for their decoration, the use to which primitive people put the caves, and the meaning of the magnificently depicted animals.
(B) has been established by carbon-14 dating, but what is much more difficult to determine is
Similar Reason as in 2

4. The physical structure of the human eye enables it to sense light of wavelengths up to 0.0005 millimeters; infrared radiation, however, is invisible because its wavelength0.1 millimetersis too long to be registered by the eye.

(C) infrared radiation, however, is invisible because its wavelength0.1 millimetersis too long for the eye to register it
wild guess

5. The plot of The Bostonians centers on the rivalry between Olive Chancellor, an active feminist, with her charming and cynical cousin, Basil Ransom, when they find themselves drawn to the same radiant young woman whose talent for public speaking has won her an ardent following.

(D) developing rivalry between Olive Chancellor, an active feminist, with Basil Ransom, her charming and cynical cousin
the para talks about "when they met..." so the most logical thing would be that when they met only then the plot will unfold and thus will result in developing rivalry hence my choice
