Interesting observation- If the profile rating cutoff is 57.5 (as indicated by various forum posts) lets find out the general cutoff percentiles for various streams with and without workex-

Engineering grad with workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-
score- 224; percentile ~90.5

Engineering grad with workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-

score- 285; percentile ~99 (in CAT 2013, a score of 270 fetched a percentile of 98.67 and a score of 291 fetched 99.58, so you can have fair bit of an idea)

Commerce grad with workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-

score- 255; percentile~97

Commerce grad without workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-

(This one is the best)

score- 315; percentile~99.90 (a score of 316 fetched 99.92 this year)

Law/Sociology/Psychology grad with workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-

score- 195 percentile- definitely below 80 (maybe even below 75) (210 yielded 84.73 this year)

Law/Sociology/Psychology grad without workex greater than 12 months (as on August 31, 2013)-

score- 255 percentile~97

This might help a future aspirants save her/his 1000 bucks. I rue wasting mine, I thought of justifying taking CAT this year by having at least one good call through CAT. The most irritating aspect of this all is how work ex weightage has been quantized, they could have used linear weightage. A friend of mine who is a commerce grad filled the form (and persuaded me too in joining him); he had an experience of 11 months, he was expected to have a CAT score of 99.90 while his colleague who had his joining a month before has been shortlisted. The concept of simply bracketing the rating points seems ridiculous, a linear mapping seems much more fair (and rational too, but it seems IIMs have their own sacred code of rationality which no mortal dare challenge)

PS- This all holds true when the rating system is a logical interpretation of what is mentioned in their shortlisting criteria. I anyway don't understand what kind of sanctity do IIMs wish to maintain by fuzzyfying their entrance criteria, why can't there be any simplicity and transparency?
XAT ' 14- 97.43, CAT- 96 (QA-99, VA- 66 :) ) ||Applications- XLRI HRM, IIM Ranchi PGDHRM, TISS HRM&LR; ||Calls- XLRI HRM, TISS HRM&LR;||Converts- XLRI HRM
