Hii...I had a query regarding today's(04.11.2011) exam. There was a technical glitch at the end of the online test. As soon as my 70 mins stipulated time for section 2(RC/LR) elapsed a window appeared that "you have run out of time" I clicked "ok" and then it directed me to the "quit test" window. Subsequently when clicked the"quit test" button an error window appeared telling "Error: 462 remote server could not be traced......" then I asked the Prometric guy about this. He clicked on the window.."ok"...Then my log out window came.Again he Logged in with specific center "Username" and "password". After logging in it showed that .." Your appointment for today is over..."(something like that..).
My query(rather worry..!) is that whether my Test and my attempted questions have been registered or not....Please help me on this..! Please do suggest anything on this...!!!

Compared to the questions given in the Demo tutorial in the website, could somebody tell the toughness of questions in the real exam?

CAT Centre, Date and Slot: Thakur College of Science & Commerce, Mumbai, 4th Nov, 3:15 pm

1) How many attempts you have made?
QA/DI-22, VA/LR-23/24 ; OA 45/46

2) Your last mock score?
in the range of 85-95%

3) How was your experience of the test?
Great. My first CAT. the people at the center were good. no problems.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
The questions / the less difficulty of the VA Section.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
revise all your shortcuts. A lot of questions can be done on comparison and calculated approximations.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
I wouldn't say QA had sitters - they had sleepers. I actually solved 7-8 questions without even touching my pencil. The key in the paper I feel is to decide what to not attempt, as a few tricky questions can consume a lot of your time.
DI I found a set slightly tedious in calculations. rest of the DI was also sitter.
LR was very easy.
VA thankfully had good RCs. Also the new type parajumble which people are talking about was only 1 question for me. Also had 2 questions of old Parajumbles. Left the 6 Word Usage + sentence correction questions. No CR. 10-11 LR. Superb paper.

7) Any other query or something you would like to share.
Please do not depend on the reviews or follow any reviews religiously. For the past few days I kept reading the reviews about VA-LR Section. Mine was much different from all of them.

ATB Guys.
@Mod: Pls pardon me if any thing that I have written violates any rules.

Hi,

Could you tell us the split of VA-LR section. How many questions in RCs,SCs,PJs,PCs,FIBs,Word Usage. Also are there questions on homophones?
Thanks in Advance!

1) How many attempts you have made?
QA/DI - 22/23
VA/LR-23/24

2) Your last mock score?
well took only one bfore..
Byju's 14th mock -->97.5

3) How was your experience of the test?
nice. But one has to keep his tempo cool inside the center..

4) What was the surprise element for you?
I had to walk for around one hour from the bus stantd to the college ...
btw no transport arrangements were there.( center was at coimbatore)
No figures in my room made me sick..

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Use the shading facility , (i.e) one can highlight the question using cursor , for RCs appropriately

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
QA--> allmost all were doable with sitters, blinders, deafers etc.. Easy as heaven.
DI--> two sets were doable , the third one was extremely calculation intensive
VA--> VA questions were straight from hell. one should have lot of concentration to do the section(RCs) successfully. PARAGRAPH COMPLETION MADE A COMEBACK!
LR--> easy to do. u will have ample time to do this.:-o

7) Any other details or something you would like to share ......
Nothin special. the security arrangements were aesthetic. my id card alone was verified 13 times.
If you could attempt the paper again, what would you do differently.
i will wear a loose fit.. Today i couldnt cope with the extremely tight pencilfit jeans inside the hall..

cheers :cheers::cheers: puys..

Puys i had my test on 31th october and the most funny incidence was one of the question that my TIME instructor did in the very last class he took before real CAT test (2 weeks ago), it came ditto without even change of data..so it took me roughly 5 sec to solve that sitter :D
so i'll suggest you all if u have any coaching class notes...revise them well...they r ones u've read whole year...its the best way 2 revise..nothing else can b better than them...n it will boost ur confidence also as u kno everything in there.. 😁

Puys,
Finally, after a long altercation with the house-keeping and security personnel on the issue "That, Whether I can take medicine inside the prometric arena or not", I was escorted by a senior official who consented on the matter and I entered to the battle ground with around 200 CAT takers to HRIT, Ghaziabad's Test Centre. It was 2nd slot of 9th C-Day, i.e. 4th Nov, 2011. There were lesser technical glitches and issues, as compare to last two years. Authorities seem to be use to with the system and resulted as smooth test environment and experience.
Today, I personally felt Albert Einstein's Relativity; the minute seems to be hours and hours were longer than a day. It was arduous to wait any more for the C-Moment and which finally, appeared on its usual time i.e. 1515 hours. The QA section (21 Q) was a mix bag of easy, moderate and difficult questions with easy/moderate being more in numbers. Questions from all the topics were there with no surprises, as expected! DI as usual was core 2011 type, calculation intensive which may include upto 8 different long calculations per question!!! (That was too tiring and the whole DI was of this kind, found an LR set in this paper too!) I attempted 27 ques and keeping the fingers crossed, never attempted this much in any mock in the season but need not to explain here that mocks were the different allegory and CAT was again a different experience which is always arcane to all preparatory channels and takers!!
Good and surprising thing, I would like to mention is in between the transition of two sections, I was luckily allowed to use Rest Rooms!! I started 2nd section with LR, as per the plan. LR section was moderate to difficult but I managed to do all the three sets. Though I took 27 minutes in this part.. Then I started with RC which was typically was 2006 type where I found two options could be eliminated easily but the cantankerous left two options have kept droning through all the questions and all the RCs... To add, I also confronted a physco-analytical type question which was a distinctive experience. I attempted 21 in this section.

In PG Questionnaire Form!
1) How many attempts you have made? 27+21=48
2) Your last mock score? 91.xx
3) How was your experience of the test? Nice, with no technical glitches. The paper was a typical CAT standards with many tricky questions of 'Savdhani Hathi, Durghatna Ghathi' genre. Concentration and hence accuracy should be awarded.
4) What was the surprise element for you? That there were no surprises.
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?--
6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc. Over-all moderate test with difficult VA+RC, difficult DI, moderate LR and easy QA.
7) Any other details or something you would like to share ......also
If you could attempt the paper again, what would you do differently. I did not read an LR set well and would like to steal those 5 minutes again (which I wasted), I think that would have made a big difference in my score.
My CAT's written journey ends in normal mode and I would like to thank all the puys (active and inactive) who worked as a Team to fight the CAT demon..
Good Wishes to All of You...

Cheers,
Fungus

CAT Centre, Date and Slot: Prometric, Hyderabad, 4th Nov, 3:15 pm

1) How many attempts you have made?
QA/DI-28 (1 last moment guess), VA/LR-29 ; OA 57

2) Your last mock score?
CAT 08 - 95.7%ile, CAT 09 & 10 - 92ish.

3) How was your experience of the test?
I always found the complete "online CAT" experience similar to taking a flight, right from check-in,starting the test at 3:15 & finishing exactly at 5:45 pm .But seriously a smooth experience.

4) What was the surprise element for you?
I was prepared for any changes (or surprises) in my slot even after reading the experiences of the previous slots, coz' last year I gave my test on 16th Nov, 2nd slot & there was a vast difference in difficulty level in QA even in the morning & afternoon slot which really took a toll on my final result.
& the surprise was QA again this year which was full of sitters.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Just make sure you don't miss out with any sitters which unlike in the paper based patterns are a little difficult to identify.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, new topics, sections etc.
QA as said above was full of sitters.A few hiccups in between which can be dealt with.
DI I found a set lot more calculative than the other two moderate ones.
Overall in Section 1, keep an eye on the clock!

VA was the most awaited one specially after reading the reviews here.Being prepared helped.RCs were difficult-moderate-easy I would say a mix bag.Other questions too were on the same lines.
LR totally doable.

7) Any other query or something you would like to share.
Be prepared for any changes in the difficulty levels of the sections.

Just my 2 cents.
Good Luck!
