I guess I should post my experience as well...the reason I didn't before was because I found it extremely painful reliving my blunders (but feel like letting it out now)

CAT Centre, Date and Slot: CBIT Hyderabad Nov 2nd 3:30 pm

1) How many attempts you have made? QA: 15 Va: 20 DI: 10 :(

2) Your last mock score? If you are there at Mock Scores Repository thread (Mock Scores Repository 2010) (Mock Scores Repository 2010) (Mock Scores Repository 2010) (Mock Scores Repository 2010) , please provide the link here. Scored in the low nineties with some higher and a few regrettable outings (Aimcats)

3) How was your experience of the test? Prometric guys were professional and competent.

4) What was the surprise element for you? DI section - not extremely difficult, but certainly deceptive.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? Don't watch TV or stare at a comp before the test (keep the eyes fresh)

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
QA: keep your cool, and think about the question for a bit before solving. Most questions could be solved easily once the fundas behind them became clear. Some questions involve tedious solving (so manage time well to get these)
DI/LR: After taking the test, I was zonked by the length of it. I remember people calling quite a few mocks as lengthy, so I assumed this would be similar. Solving this section in time felt like one of the toughest DI/LR experiences I've ever had (including some acknowledgedly difficult papers like 2008 ). Maybe I didn't approach the section intelligently, and I was sidetracked by the incorrect questions. Hopefully, Jan 12th will be kind.
VA: found one usage question and 3 RC questions tricky, but attempted them all.

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us. I think the CAT has certainly become a test of accuracy...be careful when reading the data and the options.

Hey Guys,

As some of you may have noticed that they were some incorrect Qs in our slot - 2nd Nov. 3-30 slot in both QA and DI. There is also a post on pagalguy which is regarding the same thing.

Wrong questions in CAT 2010? CAT convenor sends questions for checking | PaGaLGuY.com - Indias biggest website for MBA in India, International MBA, CAT, XAT, SNAP, MAT

So I think we should also report this thing to Prometric for our slot as well. You can PM me the Qs you feel were incorrect and we can then inform Prometric about it.

OA - (47-49)

Very nice... No technical glitches... Professional approach by the authorities...
4) What was the surprise element for you?
Nothing as such... LDI was lenghty.... No LR
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Those who have been taking mock cats won't face any problem...
6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
LDI - Not tough but time-consuming... Easy to moderate... 2 questions had wrong data... Last 15 min saved my day... I had an entire set wrong.. figured it out towards the end... Had this been right in the first plc i could have managed 3-4 more attempts...
VA - Easiest section... Inferential questions made some ques tough in rcs... But all in all a nice section...
QA - My weakest section.. Some sitters scattered in the section..
7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.
Reached the centre at 11 when my test was at 3 30... coz the centre was 120 km from my plc... So reach there as late as possible...

1) How many attempts you have made?

54 attempts Don't make too much of the attempts as accuracy has always been a problem for me.
2) Your last mock score? If you are there at Mock Scores Repository thread (Mock Scores Repository 2010) , please provide the link here.
Scores have hovered around the 99%ile mark.
3) How was your experience of the test?
Quite nice.As everyone has mentioned, try to enter a bit late. The period before the test starts is really boring.Everything went quite smoothly once the test started.
4) What was the surprise element for you?
Found DI to be almost as lengthy as some of the Aimcats. Except one set, all other sets had only 1 or 2 questions.
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Nothing in particular. Though I would like to say that the cubicle provided for each student is quite small, so make yourselves comfortable before giving the test.As for the interface, no problems.
6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
LDI-
Started with my strong area.Found the section very much time consuming. Was definitely the toughest section in my opinion. Also found 2 questions not having the correct ans. in the options.Attempted one of them while left the other.
VA- Was easy to moderate. The PJ's were easy. The correct usage part was a bit confusing. The RC's were moderate with each RC having one difficult question.
QA-Was the easiest of the three sections for me. Involved a lot of algebra.
One question was incorrect in this section too.Didn't have any idea about 1 Geometry question. So left 2 questions in this section.
7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.

Don't enter the centre too early. There is nothing else to be worried about.

ATB to all the puys who are yet to take the CAT.

1) How many attempts you have made? QA-18, VA-20, DI- 19, OA:57

2) Your last mock score? gave around 6 AIMCATs my %iles were....99.44, 99.85, 99.96, 96.48, 99.43 and 98.53

3) How was your experience of the test? There werent any problems as such except the desire to use the wash room agn n agn coz of all the built-up tension and all the waiting....CBIT ppl were really kind to let us use the wash room even at 9:45 :D

4) What was the surprise element for you? Nothing

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? No special tips

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
QA: was of moderate difficulty.....2-3 qsns were really tricky.....managed 18 qsns in 40 mins

VA: overall easy-moderate.....managed all 20 in 35-40mins..there were 3 RCs (2 qsns on 1, 3 on another and 4 on the last)....they werent lengthy and the content was also simple, rather a little too simple.....but the qsns were tricky....n then there were 5/6 parajumbles which were also a lil easy.....n there were 3 qsns based on wrong usage of the word. But , there was a mistake in the paper. One qsn had the right answer repeated twice in the options (pretty sure that it is the right answer)....i dont know how this would be dealt with.....any info on this would be appreciated (like do we need to inform em abt this issue? If yes, how? or if it would be taken care of?)

DI: overall easy-moderate but a lil time-consuming (esp coz no caselet had more than 2 qsns).....spent the rest of the time (55mins - 1 hr) on DI and managed 19 qsns. There were absolutely no sitters. Qsns based on charts or tables were damn easy.

Overall, easy-moderate paper with a lil inclination towards the easier side....feeling confident ......keeping my fingers crossed!!

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.
I have a suggestion in mind.......if u r confident that ur strategy is gud and that u hav prepared well, ignore all the suggestions people offer to u.....stick to ur basics n give the best on the C-day and also sleep well (atleast for 9-10 hrs on the day before the xam)....i myself was feelin a lil sleepy 30-40 mins before the xam and also saw many guys take a quick nap in the xam hall......avoid that by sleeping well!! All the best PUYS!!

CAT Centre, Date and Slot: KG Reddy College, Hyd , Nov 2 , 3.30 pm

1) How many attempts you have made? ----> ( qa : 17 , di : 15 , va : 15/16 ; oa : 47/48 )
2) Your last mock score? If you are there at Mock Scores Repository thread (Mock Scores Repository 2010) (Mock Scores Repository 2010) , please provide the link here. ----> Has generally been betwn 85 and 96%le ( apart frm a few royal screw-ups )
3) How was your experience of the test? ----> very decent n professional , except for the stupid n exasperating continuous UPS beep sound
4) What was the surprise element for you? ----> absence of DS , irrelevance of some data in qstns , and the BIGGEST of all has been the absolutely ridiculous fact dat 3 questions had errors in them , in a freaking CAT xam !!!
5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better? ---->
**do not feel overwhelmed by the feeling dat, since it's apparently an easy (compared to pre-'09 cats ) paper , most of the hard-core cat aspirants will score very high , and hence you should attempt a lot(scale change post 2009 ..'lot' means 48+ out of 60) accurately to score high 98+%les. A decently gud accuracy attributed to a {40-48} attempt , will definitely fetch you awesome %les .
** DO NOT miss out on the sitters plz.
**N the main trick is to maximize the score in section in which r strongest , unlike the earlier strategy , where u needed to marginally sacrifice ur strength to maintain gudness in all 3 sections .
It's simple --- since all the sections r now easy to moderate , so you would'nt have much difficulty in earning a decent score in the sections where u r relatively weak , with attention to detail n accuracy, so save the xtra energy n time n focus to maximize in ur strong areas ....dats a MUST ..coz these r sub-continent grounds n the scoring ll be high ;-D
**PLZ , for ur own sake , go thru the data given in detail once or twice n do NOT immediately start solving it ( like analyzing and filling up the empty cells in the incomplete tables given , etc ) ..it was not necessary ...trust ME 😉 ...bt instead , read the question given on the right side n u'd surprised to c dat solving some part using the main data given , gives u the answer for the qstn .... this, I am stressing with conviction bcoz , apart frm the calculation-based DI set( wid 4 qstns ) , NO other type of DI set is given wid 4 ...there were atmost 3 . So , now u can understand , y u dont have to interpret n solve the data completely
**PLZ DO NOT leave the calculation-based questions unattempted in DI , on the basis of the fear dat they might consume a lot of time ...coz , as observed until now , almost all(except 1 out of the 4 in my case) the calc-based questions had the answer options very far from each other , u can very easily , by looking at the fractions in front of u frm the data , converge to only 1 answer option . N I am pretty goddamn sure dat this ll be the pattern in all the slots , coz dats wat they r expecting from us this time around in CAT , due diligence , common sense , n decent logical ability
**QA will definitely hav ( irrespective of the slots ) 6-8 sitters conspicuously waving at you , asking you to see them . Do not be blind to them 😉 I found only 1-2 tough ones in QA ( shld mention dat my strength has always been quant ) , bt apart frm dat rest 10 qstns r common-sense based n simple mathematics n relatively easy albeit a few tricky ones

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc. ---->
QA : ppl, screw it with disdain . That's all i have to say , be thorough with the basics. Solve each n every Quant question albeit simple n very easy, from the 50 in the 1st 5 CAT papers starting frm 1999 . This is , not wasting time fyi , bt to get used to solving the easy ones FASTER . get adept at this , n dats it u r assured of a 97%le in QA.
There was 2 unbelievable n exasperating errors in a couple of qa questions , which , effectively , disturbed by mood n tempo . Dont let these errors do dat to you plz 😃 Abt attempting or leaving them alone , it's ur choice , as an 'Add-score' in CAT , is wat I am very unsure of :(
DI : As I told u earlier , DO NOT leave the calc-based questions , coz u can arrive at 1 answer option very fastly n easily.
Attempt all the single(non-set) questions given , since they ll be very easy , logically
Not to be redundant , bt , again , I am re-stressing dat , plz do NOT start solving the whole DATA given , coz u'd eventually find dat the question given did not require dat much solving n time :)
Again , there was this ridiculous error in the data given for a SET-based question
VA : This has been my bugbear all the way , frm 2008 , so , it would not be prerogative to suggest anything in this regard . However , solve all the RCs n practise Parajumbling , like hell :D
ALL THE BEST PPL!!!!!!!!!!!

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us. ---->
Obviously , it's regarding the stupid errors in the questions n choices in some cases . What abt them buddies ??? should v report them? , or Will they be taken care of ? or Should we anwser them , risking the negative we would get if it isnt an add-score?

Hi All,

I'm posting very late when Day 6 discussions are being posted. But circumstances blah blah blah.... needless to mention.:banghead:

CAT Centre, Date and Slot:
Patna
Nalanda Open University, Biscomaun Bhawan, Gandhi Maidan, Patna
Slot: 10:00 am (Morning slot).
1) How many attempts you have made?
Just 36. 2 Less than what i did in CAT 2009, but with more comfort and confidence this time.

Sectional break up---
DI- Just 9 (Below expectation)
Quant- 12 (Could and should have done more)
VA- 15 (My best I guess)

2) Your last mock score? I didn't write any mock this year so NOT AVAILABLE.
3) How was your experience of the test?
Good and far better than 2009. Smooth conduct, co-operative proctors, better systems with TFT monitors (last year i wrote it on CRT monitors still a pain for me), except for the check in process. I found it embarrassing and a bit insulting. I was checked about 7-8 times. What the heck, firstly the guard followed by the other center persons, even when i returned after the loo break. Grrrrrrrr......

4) What was the surprise element for you?
Nothing. however not getting any question from some of the very hyped areas.

5) Any tips to handle the computer based exam better?
Be cool, control your nerves. If you've seriously prepared for it. then your efforts will definitely fetch you a reward.
Don't spend much time on any question, in case if so happens, then jump to the next question. You'll definitely find a good number of sitters. The paper will give an ample of opportunity to solve at least 10 questions from each section.

6) Your overall analysis of the exam. Toughness, sections etc.
A moderate paper with good mix-up of sitters, moderate and tough question. I ran out of time due to my poor speed.

Direct formula based questions in quant. Some questions could be solved by students of elementary classes.

Easier VA with 2 difficult RCs (for me), and 1 graspable with 4-3-2 questions breakup.

I found DI time consuming and a bit difficult. 5-6 lengthy caselets, and some easily solvable sets.

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.
I reached my center before time and was in by 7:55am. Was too embarrassed by the check in process. My I card along with admit card was checked and re-checked and re-checked about 7-8 times, proctors looking at my face and then I card as if i'd come from a zoo... huh. .

After entrance i was made to sit in the waiting room along with other candidates , to be lined up for the biometrics. The ma'am sitting at the terminal for biometrics was very co-operative. I was told to stay in the same room for a while and was later escorted to the main testing LAB, to stare the monitor continuously for about a few minutes less than 2 hours. This followed another checkup of documents.

After a short while the proctor came to me...
THIS IS YOUR SYSTEM. DON'T TOUCH ANY HARDWARE. ON EXAMINATION SCREEN YOU'LL FIND A QUIT BUTTON, DON'T PRESS IT OTHERWISE.... When i interrogated that the quit button is not on the question screen but review screen he vehemently opposed my stand and said YES IT IS THERE ON THE MAIN SCREEN ALSO. Poor fellow, he was trying to make everybody panic Apart from this everything was OKAY.

Some of the hooligans, despite continuous instruction and warnings from proctors kept chatting and hence the center controller had to intervene ultimately.

At around 9:50am, the proctors began the login process, student sign in etc. and at sharp 10am we were told to start the demo.

I carefully went through all the pages of Demo, even i was familiar with it.
When I was done with it i asked the proctor standing near me, whether i could quit it or not? He said yes and i quited the demo.

Then came my CAT 2010's paper on the console....
Panicked, sweated (despite the AC being on) when i had a glance on the DI (my poorest section I swear).
Immediately i went to Quant (my stronger point up to some extent). found 6-7 sitters and was done with them in about 25 minutes. Some questions had direct formula based approach and based on simple concepts of Algebra.

Then I switched to VA, found 2 horrible philosophical RCs and the 3rd one on a topic familiar to me (can't disclose). Solved it in about 7 minutes (poor reading speed that too on computer screen). switched to other questions in VA. I was elated to find around 6-7 PJs, two easily crackable question from multiple usage. No question from Grammar!!! It was the end of VA of CAT 2010. I was done with this section in about 28 minutes (my best ever).

Back to DI. I solved some of the graph based questions and another one from pie chart. Found lengthy caselets for 1 question. I solved one of them and skipped to Quant again as i was left with just 12 minutes and i could feel like burning .

Spotted two geometry questions. First far from my understanding second a little bit of observation did the trick. Same happened with a question from mensuration. I stopped when i was left with questions which i found difficult to solve. Looked at the clock, the clock told me you have 45 seconds.... i went to review screen Counted my attempts and CAT 2010 came to an end

Got off the room at last even then landed at first, (my fortune) and found my friends waiting there for me.

Added later--
I could spot one PJ which had two similar option and a question from quant with single sentenced instruction and without any further data. how could i solve the question? I tried to contact the candidate care helpline but could not connect. Puys, suggest me any other way.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger... and a fighter... goo.gl/arzrI

VA - 3 RCs with 4-3-2 ques...Para completion, jumbled sentences, vocab, sentence correction....very much doable....

7) Any other query or something you would like to share with us.

RC's were not too difficult, not very easy, vocab was okay

3 more questions which were inconsistent, also the questions
had lot of data, of which only a certain part was relevant, so
one can see the questions first.

incorrect. Anyone with same issues.
