I got my score for NMAT. I got 172. Any chances?

The NMAT cut off varies for the different campuses. As you can see in the attached image, the lowest cut off score amongst it is 180-190 varying on the basis of percentile. As mostly the cut off is decided on percentile.

A score of 174  has low chances of selection. You can either go for retake or try next year. It is not a bad score, it can be easily be increased if you work hard.

This can only be done if you practice and clear your concepts. If you are going for a retake, take a crash course or buy mock NMAT test series. Otherwise take an NMAT specific prep course. It really helped me to jump from 168 score to 202.

Limiting your preparation to a book would not do justice to the exam. However, you can study from the official NMATbyGMAC, 2020 guide in order to gain clarity on the kind of questions you can come across during the exam.

It is essential to give as many mocks as possible and study from any online courses if possible. For your reference, I would list down the broad topics to be studied for the exam here as follows:

QUANT:

Number properties:

1) Numbers

2) Fractions

3) Decimals

4) Calendars

5) Factors and multiples

6) HCF

7) LCM

8) Logarithm

Arithmetic:

1) Percentages

2) Simple and compound interest

3) Profit, loss, and discounts

4) Ration, percentage, and average

5) Time, work and partnership

Algebra and probability:

1) Equations and inequations

2) Sequence and series

3) Permutation and combination

4) Probability

DATA INTERPRETATION:

1) Caselets

2) Tables

3) Bar graph

4) Pie chart

5) Data sufficiency

VERBAL:

1) Reading comprehension: argumentative passages, discursive passages, descriptive passages, analogy based passages

2) Para jumbles

3) Error identification

4) Prepositions

5) Sentence completion

6) Idioms and phrasal verbs

7) Analogies

REASONING:

1) Critical reasoning

2) Deductions

3) Analytical puzzles and input-output questions

4) Other reasoning: missing value in figures, decision making, ranking test, alphabet test questions, Venn diagrams, syllogisms

I would also recommend you to use the material provided on a website that helped me during my preparation:

I hope this helps.

All the best!

NMAT is an exam that would open a plethora of opportunities in terms of B-schools for you. If you’re lucky, you might even make it to NMIMS, Mumbai which is one of the prestigious B-schools in the country. From my personal experience, I would say that it is a college that can make your career in the corporate world and definitely change your life.

It is an exam that requires clarity of your basic concepts in quantitative aptitude and data interpretation, verbal ability, and logical reasoning. The preparation can be done in approximately 2-3 months, which can obviously vary from person to person. Some people might prepare in a month’s time also, which would depend on the dedication and prior knowledge of a candidate.

This does not mean that you need prior knowledge, it just acts as an added benefit in terms of the time that needs to be devoted.

In order to help you understand how the preparation needs to be done, I’d suggest you to first understand the pattern of this year’s paper at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_l3Kr5jeojw&list=PLtMMdSqG5RhyGJuCfs0K6wBcxe2lKVtCu&utm_source=Aanchal_NMIMS&utm_medium=quora&utm_campaign=aanchal_quora

This year I believe that the paper would go up in the difficulty level.

Quant and DI– You can expect an increase in the difficulty level of questions, or a lengthier section.

LRSame as Quant and DI: You can expect an increase in the difficulty level of questions, or a lengthier section.

Verbal- Easy or moderate level, with time management being the key.

A few tips:

1) Have a clear understanding of all the concepts from the very start

2) Practice each day

3) Take mock exams and make sure to do an analysis

4) Make a schedule and try to follow it

5) Study with a cool mind

I hope this helps!

All the very best to you!
