I guess,u must be a very intelligent guy as u have chosen to persue M.tech that too from such a renouned institute but I failed to understand 1 thing that is,why are u so unsure about you goals in life.Your choice of M.tech shows that u r inclined towards d technical line, research or teaching & u want to enrich ur knowledge further in ur desired stream but choosing to do an MBA just after that is a bit contradictary.A B.tech degree is enough if u want to make a career as a manager and in that case ur M.tech degree will go in vain.It pays u to get qualified but it doesnt at all pay u to get over qualified.Good luck mate

Hi Ravi,

My advice is "Work experience is highly preferable before an MBA"....

i agree that work exp. is a big bonus if ur going to go for an MBA. But aren't most of the junta in B-schools Freshers .Even the IIM's/top B-schools are filled up of considerable amount of freshers.
So how do the freshers perform as compared to the work-ex ppl?
i mean to say that Work exp is not a pre-requisite for an MBA in India unlike the US. Its just preferable.
and does not having a workexp a BIG handicap?

Hi Ravi,

Management primarily is "Experience put into theory". Work experience itself will expose you to many facets of management in a company. With work experience -
1) U will be able to connect better with the learnings at ur B-School

2) U will Understand the co-relation between real time Corporate world situations and theoretical teachings which try to work out solutions to achieve desired goals.

3) U will be Intellectually aware of Corporate ethics, protocols in terms of desired code of conduct and whats expected out of you in varied job roles.

4) U will have Better understanding of Organizational structure, hierarchy and systems together.

5) U will also be in a better position to tackle ur PIs and finally many B-Schools prefer experienced candidates.

Considering you have made up your mind for pursuing MBA, you have to also arrive at a conclusion as to what your motive is. Try thinking as to- what kind of responsibility or role do you envisage for urself, what kind of learning (in terms of specialization) are u aiming at to enhance your current educational profile and finally whats ur career objective (Entrepreneurial venture/Pvt biz employment etc).

It might be a lil difficult for you to decide on all the above mentioned points, u may take guidance from some senior members too. But after relevant work experience, u will yourself answer all these questions.

My advice is "Work experience is highly preferable before an MBA"....

😞 😞 😞

Please make sure you have a good reason. I had none.

The Point I am trying to make is, they will ask
- "You have studied for so many years, why dont you work for a few years, before thinking bout an MBA"
- "MTech is a highly specialised course, doing it means you have a liking for the Technical side, so why this need to do an MBA ? "

Make sure you have good answers, for these.
If you have .. tell me 😉

first things first - please change the title of the thread...make it MBA after M.Tech instead...

one of my batchmates is an M.Tech from IIT Madras...he had been working for one year, though..and had past work-ex too...

but u can always go for an MBA even after M.Tech...and since u r planning to go for MBA, u wud have ur own reasons for it as well..just state the same during the GD/PI stage...

Dude the obvios question will be y MBA after M Tech!! If u can justify the reason then go ahead else work for atleast 15 months & then target A grade B schools.

Only thing i like about stone in my path is, when I cross them, they become my milestones!
