Hello Future Management Professionals,

I am Kuldip Jayaswal from 2013 batch. I am a marketing major and am currently working as Senior Consultant at Mobius Knowledge Services.

For several years DoMS has been a frontrunner when it came to ROI. Very soon infrastructure facilities will get a booster shot in the form of a new building and other facilities. DoMS is an old soul, it will get a new body. The amenities at NIT-T are second to only a few in the country. Please refer previous posts testimonials on teaching methodology and campus. And if you are still not convinced, check

Best Wishes

Hi Aspiring MBAs,

I am Vijayakumaran from 2006 batch.I did my major in marketing.I am currently working as a territory manager handlinghandling sales for South India and Srilanka with a US based MNC which is a global leader in its field.

True to the fact that conservatism and south is synonymous- this institute has always been keeping a low profileprofile and as a result going without a blink in the aspiring MBAs radar.we thought its better we show the real deal and I write this post so that you guys can really see the value that DOMS NITT can offer. It is one of "the best" in terms of return on Investment.Period.And I say specially because students get misinformed and end up joining an institute which is the most advertised and shouting on top of its lung about its placement record (end up paying a humungous fee that is absolutely ridiculous).

DOMS has a very good teaching methodology as mentioned by senior Mohan Babu Sir.Debates, assignments,Presentation on case studies, open book for operations related case studies, guest lectures, conclaves. It has got a well stacked library with both curriculum related ones as well as general management, self help books and online journals. This is besides the huge library that is part of T-School.

Best part is you will be on your own rather than being a manufactured MBA.

Many of our alumni are GMs,VPs,Chairmans, entrepreneurs - needless to say that its only because  definitely the institue offers something that's amazing.

NNITThas a beautiful campus and not a concrete jungle ;).

The course is designed in such it offers a balance for you to have some fun as well.

Was glad to see that even one relative small chink on the armour of not having a sepereate building is also now rectified. With a new swanky building with many new facilities and research centres part of it coming up the value that it is offering just went several notches above.

Just read recently best way to have healthy food is to avoid all the ones highly advertised. Guess that could apply here too.

I am Mohan from 94 batch (MBA - Marketing) sharing my experiences at NIT, Trichy. I am limiting this post more to the learning part and would not talk about the events that happens after the class hours.

The best part about DOMS, NIT, Trichy was the emphasis given on experiential learning. We understand the various marketing concepts fundamentally by linking the same to real life situations. Case studies, seminars and debates dominate the classroom hours, enabling the students to understand the management concepts with a practical orientation. This approach also helps in improving the presentation skills of students.

I hope this approach continues till date in NIT, Trichy. The present batch of students can share their experiences.

"The Fun Of Being A DoMSian"

Life is more about the journey than the destination. But, life at DoMS, NIT Tiruchirappalli is much more than a journey. If one choose to make the journey, one will be at a loss being at the centre of all the things which are available here and all the more the unavailability of time. Now starting from where it all began, I was a bit skeptical about coming to a place so far away from my hometown. But as the life started here I realized it was not a bad decision. Life here is not just all about hostel to lecture halls or from lecture halls to hostel. It is much more than that. It is about the learning about and experiencing life.

Today when I write this, I have already spent a few months in the lush, serene campus. I have attended some brilliant, eye-opening lectures given by industry persons. I have also slept like a baby sometimes in the morning class after doing some group assignments that went on till 4 am. But all this is fun as what better could be for a first time hosteller like me than to have Maggi at night while completing projects and chitchatting with hostel mates.

But, I guess the real thing is to be able to laugh at all the pressure, to be able to appreciate the new, the odd. And I have done that in each passing moment. My awesome friends here in my department have helped me in that.  The lush green forest, the beautiful city, the group assignments turning into group chats, the market survey or even the industrial trip everything enriched me and made me realize that I could enjoy being so much and doing so much. These all are my life now.

"Being @ DoMS"

The first time I saw the towering gates of NIT Tiruchirapalli, I admit I was apprehensive. It meant staying away from home, putting yourself in a strange environment where you know no one and have no idea what hostel life is all about. Everyone was hesitant yet filled with excitement. Ahh...the freshness of youth is indeed magical.

But the real magic happened during the small, silly moments.

Whenever we can, we would sleep under the stars on the benches inside our hostel and stare and dream. The late night talks we have with each other and the fun jokes. We ride the bicycle and have fake competitions with friends, enjoy the wind in our hair and act as if we were in some movie. Speaking of movies, we watch movies late into the night despite it being a work day. We even make our scaredy-cat friends watch horror with us and scare the living daylights out of them in the night. You see peacocks outside your window and butterflies flutter around you as you walk to mess.

Yes, life is different in DoMS, but what makes it worthwhile is that you can make the most out of everything. Friends are a huge part, but more than that, it's the life you live.

So it is one looong month without posting in PG. May be this heralds the beginning of my long hibernations from the PG world and entry into the corporate world.

This last trimester was the one were when we played lots lots and lots of badminton games.. FIRM games also game back and went by unnoticed..

Some enjoying their last days of "freedom" 'cause the they would also step into the search for their better halfs.

Life goes so much fast i realise now. It was yesterday, i remember, going to our Ramesh anna, the librarian and talking to him during my fees submission day and here it is. Umpteen treats, umpteen cake parties... we are saying good bye to the place which had hosted us for the last 2 years.

May this bond remain stronger than the JK cement may this relationship of friendship go on and on and on and on..

And here i switch off my writing...... go on go on sleeeeeep on sleep on slleeeeppp ooo...nnnnn yawn

I think there is a need to pen down academic activities alongside sports :P

Here goes an article on the JURAN workshop:

Department of Management Studies, NIT Trichy organizes a certification programme in association with the JURAN Institute on Lean six sigma for the students. Juran Institute, a pioneer in the field of quality management has been conducting weekend sessions for the students of DoMS. Budding Managers need to assist the organization where they are going to be associated in ensuring quality in their products and Services.
Lean Six Sigma is the best known quality improvement method which is used widely across all industries. Lean Six Sigma is a combination of two successful methods that organizations use to reduce waste, defects, and general mistakes; lean manufacturing and the six sigma methodology. These Certifications improve a candidates chances of getting hired in areas of training, consulting and process re-engineering. The Institute is offering its flagship Green Belt program. This certification equips the participants to lead projects and to assist Lean Six sigma Black Belts in large cross functional projects. The course is provided in two phases which meets global requirements of JURAN institute whose clients include Samsung and Telefonica. The course is comprehensive with examples and case studies across a spectrum of industries.
Phase 1 includes 35 hours of class room training with Lean Six Sigma Assignment workbook completion and an individual Proficiency assessment. Phase 2 includes a Project that ought to be completed by the fellow students and a final Green Belt exam that has to be taken up by them.
The Topics range from Historical Perspective of Lean & Six Sigma to Industry specific applications and case studies. An Overview of Lean, its Philosophy , the Principles involved and the wastes along with the tools value stream Mapping , Kanab , JIT etc would give a holistic view about the aspects of Quality. The various methodologies of Six Sigma DMAIC & DFSS and the phases involved in each of the methodologies and the significance would enlighten the students on Team Management. Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and control phases and the methods and tools in each phase would provide insights on Designing Experiments and using Statistical methods to be put to use in real life business scenarios.
I read an article in a newspaper on how Motorola used six sigma training to become huge again. Two decades ago, the company was down on its luck which could have been finished off by a financial recession at any time. Today it is one of the most prominent cell phone brands in the world. Motorola did not go out and bring in a team of outside management and training consultants. No, what they did was nothing less than develop a new way of training staff and of manufacturing their products, a method which saw their profits rise and had such profound effects on the success of the company that everyone else wanted to know how they had managed it. The secret was Six Sigma.
Thus, the certification would enable people display proficiency in controlling quality and increasing profits, which would be very fruitful for any aspiring Entrepreneur. So is for any business firm. Also, it would enhance the desirability thereby fortifying the relationship among workers. DoMS is one of the very few B schools to provide Six Sigma certification along with the course. Eventually, the certification would shape up a Managers career and his dreams in running a successful business organization.
