Can some one explain question no. 8 in simcat 8 from quant section.

It says the fare will be calculated for rickshaw in city A as 16 + 9*(n-1) where n is the total distance

Shud it not be 16 + 4.5*(n-1)?

@devashishj21  ·  47 karma

@sourabh.ashwa no its correct its asking the natural nos.The equation 16+4.5**(n-1) is correct but the value of n will be 0,2,4...so it ll reduce to 16 25..

@Ninjapundit  ·  0 karma

We need to find the equal fare which is required to be a natural number.

Therefore , the difference is taken as 9 and not as 4.5 so that the solution exists at a natural number.

In DI LR q22, where it is asked that in how many cases can we uniquely determine the months, russian and german generals, shouldnt the answer be 6? Had it also said battles then the answer would have been 4..

ohh my!! one crazy set...should u solve such sets in CAT...if i had to leave one set out of all, shouldn't that be this one??

@srishti2854  ·  0 karma

IMO, the puzzle was structured differently I felt with quite tough names.. But on solving I found it on the easier side.. :-/

SIMCAT 8 Quesn # 10:

If a+b+c = 12 , what is the maximum value of (a-2)(b-1)(c-3)?

There is no mention of a,b,c being +ve numbers. How come the answer is 8?
