@sivajagadesh: Pertinent and genuine though your query is there is no
"Things to do to get into top b schools" unfortunately....
Do spend some time in the forum to get a fell of how it works..since you are interested in a foreign bschool go to that particular sub forum and peruse through the threads....
There are plethora of threads and going through them and 'internalizing' will give you a much better idea of where you presently stand and what you need to do....then you could ask more specific questions for the resident experts here to guide you...

Hey guys,

I've just finished my BE Electrical Engg at VJTI, Mumbai...i've also received an offer from TCS which i'm planning to accept. My goal is to do an MBA from Wharton or any of the top teir B schools in the US n would be awesome if you guys could clear up sum of my doubts...

1) From whatever research i've done so far, GMAT and Work Exp are the top factors in an admission decision....is this true? Is 3 years work exp enuff??

2) I have decent undergrad performance, 60% aggregate...but I've also had a KT in one subjects (backlog) in my Third year, which i cleared in the next attempt. Will this by itself hamper my chances, if so how can i offest its effect?

3)How important are extracurricular and social activities in deciding a B-school admit. I've decided to pursue seriously some of my hobbies and also do some volunteering work for an NGO?? will it be sufficient?

4) I ve heard a lot of people say find a B school that fits your profile. How exactly do i do that??

shiva....
