If you are a geek (whether a travel geek or
a tech geek) and are planning a holiday, then here are some tips which you need
to mug up:
i. Pack your chargers: Sipping your coffee in your flight and suddenly remembering that you haven't packed your charger can be the most nightmarish moment of any sane traveler! People carry so many gadgets these days (cell phone, camera, tablets, blah blah blah) that one becomes completely handicapped if the chargers are forgotten. Make sure that you thrust every charger inside your bag before leaving your house.
ii. Get your maps ready: When you are visiting a destination for the first-time, then you should not deprive yourself of the opportunity of peering into a map like some geeky and super-intelligent explorer! But, gone are the days when one used to carry those paper maps! It is high time that you rely on your tech apps which come with all the reliable features. So, a few days prior to your departure, you better browse through and download all the essential map-related apps which you think would help you in case you get lost.
iii. Managing your Facebook and Twitter pages: If you run Facebook pages and Twitter profiles and want to take a complete break from them while on holiday, then you can schedule your statuses in advance! For a social networking geek, it is very important to stay visible on these social forums 24/7 so that their fans & friends can feel their presence like a stalking and maniacal creeper! So, you better make sure that you have made enough updates scheduled for the week.
iv. Carry your ID proof: Of course, you need to carry your passport and visa. But just in case, something undesirable happens, you should also be able to showcase your ID proof. Your passport is proof enough, but if you lose your passport, then you would need another document to prove your existence and identity! A safe traveler would make sure that he is carrying all the important documents.
v. Currency exchange headache: A true travel geek will always find out in advance about the currency exchange rates so that he can plan his trip accordingly. In fact, some smart backpackers head to a foreign destination when the currency rate favors them economically!
vi. Pay heed to the weather God: You do not want to rush to a destination without checking the local weather. At times, even the most salubrious of corners on the planet may be a bit…umm…under the weather! If you land at the place and find yourself stranded amidst 5 feet of water, then do not blame the Rain God for spoiling your party! With internet and travel agents always willing to lend you their helping hand, it is your duty to check if the existing weather is congenial or not.
vii. Accommodation issues: A true geek is one who shall find the best possible accommodation at the least possible tariff. To become one such supersmart traveler, you must brush up your searching skills so that you can always grab the best deals floated on the net.Post Written by Nishi Jain of WeAreHolidays (
