I want to write this to clear the air around the job I joined as SSO(south) in this April, after 79 nights with SBI. It costed nearly 3.5L for my freedom. I was posted as a Branch Manager in some village. Previously working BM gave me 1month on-hand training and relieved after leaving the branch to me.. [[__"A little intro of ESIC: ESI is a self-financed statutory body under Ministry of Labour& Employment to deliver Social security benefits to workers constituted on ESI Act,1948. Started operations in 1952 with Jawaharlal Nehru as 1st Insured Person. As health is a state subject, state helps in matters related to and ESI pays upto 3000/IP/yr. Every person below certain wages(21000 now) working in a factory/establishment with more than 10 employees pay a fraction of their salary(0.75% now) every month for a wide range of benefits--(1)Medical treatment to self & family in ESI/tie-up pvt hospitals. (2) Cash benefits -- partly wages paid by ESI in case of incapacity to work; pension to permanently disabled/ dependants of died IP; 6months full wages paid by ESI for pregnant female; Unemployment allowance etc., (3) IP children given 20% seats in ESI Medical colleges. Also every employer pays 3.25% of wages as his contribution towards every IP. This amount is pooled to run the scheme(stands at 91000Cr as of March). Around 3.43Cr people are registered under ESI as of March. Registering under ESI isn't optional and who don't comply are dealt harshly by ESI courts."__]] Continuing my experience..ssos are given one of 3 duties. 1.SSO- Inspecting/surveying factories for compliance. 2. Branch Manager- Make benefit payments and investigation of employment injuries. 3.Office Suptd- Posted in Regional office for desk work. *No gazetted post in ESI except the Recovery officer. Staff are friendlier and superiors are no different. Taking leave from work has never been easier. Interstate transfers entertained after 3yr service. We were trained in NLI,Noida for 2weeks. As a BM I have control over my staff and I work around 40hrs/week(though not mandatory). My only complaint is amount of paperwork involved(Avg 30 signatures daily)!! Any reported accident is investigated on whether it is an employment injury by factory visits. Corruption exists though negligible. The satisfaction in supporting weaker sections keeps me motivated every minute. Promotion: SSO--> Asst Director--> Dpty director-->Joint Director-->Regional Director-->Asst Commissioner. Practically 4 promotions possible. Pay & Benefits: Level7(44900 basic) HRA variable depending on posting. Only Postpaid telephone bills & children education expenses are reimbursed for SSO cadre. Family&self covered under cashless treatment from tieup pvt hospitals. ESI is already implemented in Kashmir & Andaman. ESI is committed to cover pan India by 2022. Medical+Administration+Legal are three pillars for smooth running of this scheme. Any feedback/queries are welcome
