Hi,

The thread is dormant so thought to wake it up...

Well I m no great at CAT :drinking:but somehow managed to get a call from SIIB ABM. Now I wonder if i should go there for GD/PI or not. I got 3.5 yrs exp in business development and I m a mechanical engg by qualification.

The point is i can confidently prove tat y i wanna do it n other things but those points are all related to entrepreneurial plans. What I wanna know is wat the course is like n wats it worth especially wen the SNAP cutoff is just 49 for genral.

Any help will be appreciated

THanks

Placement details of this year is as below.

http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2006/02/25/stories/2006022504050100.htm

Two years ago, Mr Anand Rajan quit his job at a biotech company in Mumbai and took up a post-graduate programme in agri-business management at IIM-Ahmedabad.

And today, he has been offered a $65,000-a-year job by the Singapore-based supply chain firm Olam International - the biggest offer the institute's agri-business department has received till date, signifying that this field of study has come of age.

Offers have been pouring heavy this year for the agri-business department at IIM-A. Thirteen top-notch agriculture and commodity trading firms, including NCDEX, Godrej, Dow Agro and Reliance Retail, queued up on February 19 and 20 at the premier institute to grab the best of the country's talent.

The pay packages too increased this year. The 23 final year students of the post-graduate programme in agri-business management have been given 38 job offers, from last year's 30.

The top domestic offer of the year - Rs 8.25 lakh per annum - is from Godrej Agrovet. Last year, the highest international offer was from Alghanim ($55,000), while within the country it was from ITC Ltd (Rs 8.03 lakh).

Lateral entry

The placement co-ordinator for the agri-business department, Mr Sreejith Mohan, says: "Those with relevant work experience were offered `lateral' jobs rather than entry level jobs as trainees. Lateral candidates will be directly absorbed into the managerial level. This year, there have been seven lateral offers with an average pay package of Rs 7.95 lakh. Freshers with no work experience have been given an average pay package of Rs 7.4 lakh. The overall average is Rs 7.4 lakh per annum." Agri-business as a course and as a career choice is gaining in popularity. Says Mr Mohan: "Till last year, the course took in students only with an agriculture background. From this year, students from other backgrounds are being taken."

Course focus

The IIM-A course focuses on areas such as market research in agri-business, management in micro-finance, strategic food and agro marketing and management of agri products. Mr Rajan, who did his undergraduate degree in food technology, says that since the "trend these days is towards specialisation," specialists with relevant experience and education are "in demand."

Says Mr Mohan: "Globally too, agri-business has been gaining recognition. Job offers this year have been high from corporates in sunrise sectors such as logistics, retail and agri-finance and there is diversity in the job profile of students - ranging from product development, procurement, to managing urban and rural retail chains."

@shivanQ: i agree when you suggest that someone sholdnot leave xl for abm just from career point of view. but when interests are accounted for, things change. and when you say that irma is better than ahmedabad abm, i completely disagree from you. infact the first words that came to my mind were "utter nonsense"
irma is no match for iima abm. its miles behind. if an irman and abm joins in the same company, the abm guy is certain to join where the irman will reach in next 5-8 years.
hope this makes it clear. please do not compare irma to iima abm. you can compare irma to siib-abm.

for juntas knowledge, i have been selected for iima-abm programme.
cat-98.78

i am leaving all other available options to me to just get in where lakhs aspire to be in every year.
good luck to all of you and hope to see you all at A.

O Dear

Plzzzz Dont Leave Xl For Abm

As If U Talk About Agri

Then Irma Is Definitely Above Abm At Iim-a

And Ya

If U Talk About Brand Iim-a Has No Comparison In India

As For Me Guys

I Cud'nt Cnvert Iim-a(abm)

And So Heading For Imi(i Feel Imi-pgp Is Not Very Inferior To Iim-a Abm)

Anyways

I Am Happy Atleast Some Puys Cnverted Iim-a Abm!!!!!!!

Enjoy And Ya Keep In Touch
