NITIE vs MDI
(for a production engineer)
Going by the established opinions and past trends analysis, NITIE is a much preferred choice over MDI for a production engineer. But the decision of choosing right B-school is of utmost importance as it will make or break your career in the next two years. Hence making an informed decision at this point is crucial. Here are some facts about both the institutes to help make a better judgement.
One of the main point of differentiation is that NITIE accepts only engineering applicants for its PG program whereas MDI welcomes applicants from all diverse background. Other factors of differentiation are as follows:
ACADEMICS: For a production engineer, NITIE curriculum is considered as simply a post-graduation course. NITIE being popularly known as the mecca of supply chain, prides itself in the curriculum that emphasizes more on industrial application. MDI however, has an evenly spread approach towards all the fields with a tinge of Marketing and Finance emphasis.
FACULTY TO STUDENT RATIO: Being operational from a long time, both institutes have similar number of faculties and thus similar faculty to student ratios. However, some of NITIE faculties that are some of the renowned professions in the field of supply chain.
CASE STUDIES: All the top case study competitions launched by some of the coveted firms in the country are offered to pretty much both the institutes. But some of them offering domain specific challenges such as operations or marketing opens only the relevant domain in the respective institutes. For eg, Marico opens up its case study in operations domain in NITIE and in finance domain in MDI.
PLACEMENT: This is the point which mostly influences the decision of any B school aspirants: As all the other parameters placements are also influenced by the domains in these institutes. All the leading supply chain companies such as HUL, P&G and Mondelez make their supply chain profile open only at NITIE. Also, NITIE is the first B-school in the country to start their Summers Placement process(September). However, MDI is also blessed with top consulting firms such as BCG which doesn’t come to NITIE. A comparison is given below to get a fair idea about the placement scenarios at both the institutes.
