CAT 2018 Exam Information

What is CAT Exam?

CAT  (Common Admission Test) is the centralised entrance examination for admission to various postgraduate programmes in Management offered by IIMs. Besides the IIMs, many other prestigious management colleges and institutions also accept CAT score for admission to their respective management programs.

Who conducts CAT Exam?

Every year, one of the IIMs organize CAT for admission to the MBA and PGDM programs of the best B-Schools in India. CAT 2018 will be conducted by IIM Calcutta on November 25 in online mode. The convenor of the examination process for CAT 2018 is Prof. Sumanta Basu.

CAT 2018 Exam Date

Common aptitude test abbreviated as CAT is a very important examination for the candidates wanting to pursue management. The candidates have to compete with millions of people and the difficulty level of the questions is also very high. The important dates for the CAT exam have been released. The candidates are advised to adhere to the dates and deadlines for the processes that are involved in the CAT exam. The candidates need to carry their admit cards with them without fail. If the candidates fail to carry their required documents and admit card, he or she will not be allowed to enter the examination hall.

The aspirants need to follow the rules and procedure for the exam properly. Any candidate who does not follow the instructions will not be allowed to appear for the exam. The dates will not be extended for anyone in any circumstances. The candidates need to submit their application before the last date as mentioned above. The schedule for the exam will go as per the dates mentioned and if there will be any changes it will be informed to he candidates.

CAT 2018 Eligibility Criteria

I. Educational Qualifications
A candidate is eligible for the exam if he/she holds any of the educational qualifications as stated below:

(a) A Bachelor’s Degree with minimum 50% marks or a CGPA equivalent to 50% and above

In the case of candidates who belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Person With Disability categories the required minimum marks are 45%

(b) A Ministry of HRD-recognised equivalent qualification. [This also includes the Associate Membership Examination (AMICE) of the Institution of Civil Engineers, India]

(c) Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent qualification are also eligible to appear for the CAT exam.

CAT 2018 Registration

How to Register for CAT 2018?

Registration process for CAT 2018 is conducted online. The online registration for CAT 2018 was open from the 8th of August to 26th of September, 2018.

Candidates must provide and maintain the following throughout the examination and selection process:
– Valid and unique Email ID and a mobile phone number
– CAT User ID (this is provided via email after completion of the online registration process)

CAT 2018 Exam Pattern

Mode of Exam
CAT is not exactly an online examination, this means it in not an Internet Based Test (IBT). More technically, it is a digital or Computer Based Test (CBT).

This means – a candidate will not take the exam on an internet site.

Instead of reading the questions in a paper booklet and darkening the ovals on the answer-sheet, a candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option.

The CAT exam does not have a defined syllabus for preparation. However, you can attempt the mock test to understand the pattern of exam and types of questions. Check the CAT website regularly for the announcement of mock test. The same will also be updated here, once released

CAT 2018 Admit Card

The organising IIM – IIM Calcutta will release the CAT 2018 admit card on October 24 2018. The admit card remains available for download till the exam date. However, candidate are advised to download and print the same well in advance. The CAT admit card holds the information such as test venue, instructions, details of the candidate and reporting time.

CAT Cutoff

Cutoff for eligibility for PI-WAT is overall percentile based but minimum percentile is applicable for sectional cutoff as well.

IIMs/MBA Colleges will release the minimum cutoff for PI/WAT/GD shortlisting sometime in January post the announcement of CAT Result. This minimum cutoff for shortlisting for interview will be released on official website of each IIM. The cutoff will vary from IIM to IIM.
