GATE, or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is an exam conducted for candidates seeking admission in research and engineering. It is annually conducted in 8 zones namely IISc Bangalore and seven other IITs including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee on rotational basis. This year the GATE exam will be conducted in IIT Madras. 24 subjects are offered and candidates are eligible to apply for one at a time.
GATE is an annual exam held at 8 zones on a rotation basis. IIT Madras will hold the examination in the month of February this year. The dates of exam are 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th February 2019. There will be two shifts namely forenoon session and afternoon session.
The first shift will be from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and the second shift will be from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.

Over 9 lac students appear for the exam. So the paper is scheduled in two sessions-forenoon and afternoon. The following is the detailed schedule according to the paper code of various subjects:

The students appearing for GATE 2019, are offered 24 subjects to choose from which candidate can choose subject of their choice. The candidates are however advised to check their eligibility before applying. The qualification required for appearing in GATE exam is given below:
- Bachelor’s degree in related engineering or science stream.
- Masters or equivalent degree in any branch of mathematics, science, statistics or computer application.
- Students in final year of Bachelor’s or Master’s can also apply.
- Also there is no minimum pass percentage for the qualifying degree.
There is no age limit for candidates applying for the exam.
All Indian candidates are eligible to apply for GATE exam. Also the candidates belonging to Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Ethiopia and U.A.E. are eligible to apply for the exam.

List of Documents required
The following documents have to be uploaded by the candidate:
- Eligibility criteria certificate
- Degree/certificate of the completed qualifying exam.
- Candidates with backlogs have to upload their mark sheet
- Candidates still in the final year have to submit provisional certificate issued by department of their respective educational institute
- Valid document proof for SC/ST candidates
- Certificate issued by authorities for dyslexic candidates.
The exam dates are 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th February 2019 as mentioned above and will be held in IIT Madras. After the exam, the result of GATE 2019 will be declared of the GOAPS website.
The counselling procedures will be held through Centralised counselling for NITs while IISc Bangalore and IITs will have their own counselling procedures.
The GATE result will be declared on March 16, 2019. The GATE scorecard will be available for download from March 20 to May 21, 2019. The validity of scorecard is 3 years from the date of announcement of results.
