Hi rohit,
No it does not comes down for the candidate with work ex or good acads. you have to cross the cutoff to get a call for SIBM GD/PI, but yes once you got a call it has significant importance in final selection.
Yes, lateral placements options are available for people having work ex and if one has more than 20 months experience he is eligible for lateral placement in that way you will be eligible.

all the best for SNAP and other exams.

thanx nafis
will value tht feedback

Hi Nafis,

I can see from the above posted info that systems/IT is not offered as a specialization in SIBM. Yet according to the placement stats 22% of the batch(62 offers) accepted offers in this sector. So how is this possible? What profiles did the students opting for IT/ITES sectors opt for. Actually i am asking this bcoz i am looking to work in IT consultancy post MBA and i am trying to find out whether SIBM can provide me with the ladder or not.Hope u dont mind answering my question.

Hi Richa,
Your case is very much similar to me, even i have a bad acads(well not that bad;))10th 76%,12th 76%,Grads 61% and I too had taken a break for the preparation and now I am answering the same query which I had a year back(I was an open category student) that itself prove that though these things matter but not to such extent that your good marks in written and excellent performance in GD/PI could be ignored just because your past academic performance are not at best.
So stop worring about the acads and work ex and concentrate on study afterall one you can not do much about the things that are not in your controll but you can certainly improove those things that are in your hand.

So all the best for SNAP and other exams.........your others queries are always welcome here

@linux_maverick - Thank you for your interest in SIBM, Pune. The fact of the matter is that IT/ITES offer diverse profiles including Finance, ops or marketing in the IT/ITES space... this translates into 22% of the batch being placed in IT roles.. You can very well work in an IT consultancy profile if you are so inclined after specializing in either of Fin./Ops. or Marketing. While Ops translates into profiles in IT Project Management, Marketing would predomimantly land you roles in the Pre-Sales/ Business Development space (e.g. Oracle, Sun etc.) - Finance would help you land profiles in Finance verticles or niche products such as Financle (Infy.), i-Flex etc. Hope that answers your queries...Please revert back in case of any further queries.

I on behalf of Admissions Team,SIBM Pune would also like to let you know that we are coming up with SIBM Live - an event that aims to answer queries of aspirants about MBA in general across 4 cities - Dehradun,Guwahati,Kochi and Vizag in the next couple of weeks - For more details regarding this please register @ SIBM . Thanks..But what exactly is meant by pre-sales?Basically the impression i have is that in IT consultancy one starts of as a business analyst in a particular domain(say retail) or function(say CRM) and then moves on and over time becomes a consultant. Is pre sales the same as this?Suppose someone wants to be a business analyst Then what should be his specialization? Also isnt it that for IT project management one has 2 hv work -ex( I am a fresher). One more problem is that though i am good at analysis and planning(that is y i want an analysis oriented job) i am not too outgoing by nature(so that leaves marketing out).Plx help me seniors.I am in a real mess...

Its true that SNAP is not as tough as CAT but degree of toughness has nothing to do wid the competition because number of seats are the same If paper is easy cutoff will be high and Vice-versa....

SIBM does have sectional cutoff but there is no set sectional cutoff it purely depends upon level of competition.IF your sectional is balance and overall cutoff you are clearing it should not be any problem.I will suggest you to concentrate on study at this crucial time last thing you can do to worry about cutoff.

All the best for the SNAP and other exams

I will try to answer your queries sequentially -

Pre-sales broadly involves the entire gamut of pre-bid activities which includes figuring out a response to an RFP (Request for proposal from the client) , chalking out the bidding plan after taking into consideration organizational capabilities and other related activities which finally culminate in the Bid (sales pitch for the engagement). It is the pre-Sales team which is reponsible for bagging the projects following which the coders actually go to work on the implementation.

While what you have said is by and large correct - a "domain" in which you would be a BA is decided to a certain extent by your choice of specialization - e.g. you would have a fair chance of ending up in a retail domain if you were to have Marketing or Ops as your specialization. A CRM assignment would be a good fit for a person who has majored in Finance or Marketing .

While prior "relevant" experience is a plus it is not mandatory - so there is no saying as to which role you might end up with. Regarding your choice of specialization - in SIBM Pune you have several workshops to assess your aptitude/fit for a particular specialization before your actual specialization selection to help you make an informed choice.

Finally SIBM Live is not being held in Kolkata - However we might organize some event in Kolkata in the near future. Please keep checking www.sibm.edu for updates.

Thanks. So Pre-Sales IS the job of a B.A.It is the back end and Business development officers are at the front end.Am i Right?I guess then someone with a finance specialization has the chance of becoming a B.A in the BFSI vertical.I get it now..thnsk for my clearing my doubt.

P.S: Then what roles do students specializing in systems/IT(from colleges where it is offered as a specialization ) get?

heyy, i am a 2008 graduate. i am aiming at getting into a b-school like SIBM.
i have no work-ex. have a decent academic record.
10th-91
12th-79
BE(Compsci)-63
i did join a cat training centre, a premier one a couple on months back, but haven really been studying all that hard. i have also taken up a few mock cat. i d like to know if it ll be possible for me to crack SNAP if i start my preparations seriously now. cause i ve heard snap is relatively easier to crack than cat.:sarcasm:
