Does the Waiting list of MICA move ??

Yes it does. By how much depends on every year. But people in the waitlist have converted calls in the past as well.

Are SPOT offers made considering the netire profile(CAT+MICAT+GE/PI or only on the basis of GE/PI score. What are the chances of conversion if one is having 85-90% in cat and an average GE/PI?

yes the waitlist moves by 60 odd each yr.(this yr might be different because of cat coming back ing the picture)
i was wl 65 last yr.finally wl at 4..

any ge pi experiences from the 3rd april 2012???

Thanks in advance

Date: April 3,2012- An unforgettable date(or should I say day) in my life!

GE Experience- The group was asked to re-enact a a scene from a classic movie and relate it to a current scenario. (There was a magazine, a bunch of chart papers, sketch pens and stuff...) Ours was a very creative group!:) (SH3 Group2) Everyone pitched in with ideas, no fish market (phew!), people automatically took to tasks they were comfortable with. We did the entire re-enactment in two parts- paper based storyboard and a skit!

PI Experience- After a long, arduous wait in the Audi (which made the waiting a bit comfortable!), I finally entered the last dungeon at around 4:30! Started off with some grilling about the fact that I had my passport photograph in a TEE (WTF!!). Ventured along why an "academically brilliant" student like me was wasting national resources to switch to comm. mgmt. My over-the-top wise ass reply- " Sir, it is better to waste national resources than to waste individual talent!"
Then the discussion revolved around my SOP, my writing skills, internship with magazine, editorial stuff I did for college newsletter..basically all my literary activities and how I could relate them to comm. management.
Then some more bit of stress with phrases from the panel like- "I don't see that spark in you!" :nono:
I just kept my cool and went through all of it with a smile, told them- "I might appear to be soft spoken, but I believe in what I say and do."
That probably gave them some positive signs! \m/ Asked me about some of my favourite ad-campaigns,my inclination towards social work and how I would manage advertising and social work together.
After that, they asked me to create an ad-campaign to encourage people from Ghaziabad(my hometown) to relocate to Dhanbad(where I'm studying currently). I devised the strategy, designed a TVC and came up with 2 taglines in under 2 minutes! (I dunno how, but they seemed impressed!)
Finally, asked me about an incidence where I had displayed leadership skills. Told them about a college incident (long story yaar!).

Overall Process/Advice- Be yourself. Be honest. The panel really made an effort to understand whatever I said. Should be the same with everyone I guess. Personally, it's good if they are grilling you. Goes on to show they are interested in you!

Advice to GE/PI management team- Please get a fan in those waiting areas outside every PI room!

End Result- Spot offer.

I think they are taking into account everything. I cannot really predict the chances, but there were 11 Spot Offers on day 1 (including me ) and there are people who have percentiles between 80-90 and who got spot offers! 😃

How many aspirants were there on day1? Just wanted to know the spot offer ratio.

Don't know how useful it's gonna be - here's my experience nevertheless -

1. Date: 03 April, 2012
2. GE experience:
Topic : Design a social networking platform for the year 2025. Discuss 5 major features it will have. Come up with a innovative name and design how it's wall will look like.

My GE group was really chilled out - with two of my batchmates from the FB group we had formed.. for 2-3 minutes, everyone jotted down his/her thoughts. They had chart paper and sketch pens for us.. we came up with a name, really futurisitc features and then all of us pooled in a designed the wall.. it was fun - just make sure you are involved in the process. don't try to dominate anyone. Go with the flow.

3. PI experience
My interview started at 5 pm. I was interviewed by Saumya Ma'am and two gentlemen whose name I don't know. They started by asking me why I was wearing a suit - indian v/s western clothes, why western clothes, what do you recommend and from there on it went on to ethical issues (trying to make you uncomfortable through taboo topics). The topics included -
Pre-marital sex
Smoking
Having kids

Then they asked me about my role model.. the ideology, past academics (school+college) - had mentioned social work - so asked about that.. also asked me about why MICA, what quality do you think we're looking for, local brands near my city Nagpur..

In a nutshell, expect everything. But be calm.

4. Overall Process/Advice:
Enjoy the process. They are not there to kill you. lol.Don't try to be someone you are not. Be confident with your reasons for joining MICA. Don't try too hard to convince anyone.

5. End Result: Shortlisted =) Waiting for the 17th now!

any idea on number of shortlists waitling lists and not recommended list

There's no not recommended list..
There were 11 spot offers yesterday.. I am not really sure about the waitlisted people but my guess is 10-15.. 54 people came.

which means the remaining people are not recommended
Hey there MICAspirants...

Now that the D-DAY is around the corner, it's time you bank on (including but not limited to) the 3 Cs- Confidence, Composure and Checkin' the thread religiously:)

umm...do understand that it's easier said than done...so excuse me for coming across as a "Mr.Gyan Baba"...:-@
But earnestly, wanted to wish u all a Minnnnd-blowing (in a positive way, of course) MICA experience

A few generic questions that may not be asked but would haunt you, if not considered in the prep stage:

  1. Why MICA?
  2. Why not an MBA but a PG in comm mgmt? (they aren't the same after all)
  3. What are your long term goals / what u wanna do with ur life?
  4. Which area of specialisation would u go in for? Why?
  5. Why? Why? Why? (YUP!!! WHY yet again, coz they would be looking for an earnest answer told with conviction (not a standard/ Beauty Pageant answer)...It may/ may not be unique...
  6. Why do u think u would be good in it (the course you want to pursue in MICA)
  7. Strenghts , weaknesses and how do you plan to channelize your strengths...
  8. If you're not in media / comm industry currently then, why are you shifting industry?
  9. Why should mica take you?How mica fits your long term goal?
  10. So what all have u read on ad / marketing / communications
  11. Generic questions on hobbies (seriously, know the A-Z of your SOP)
  12. How do u rate urself in the GD
  13. ANY QUESTION YOU WOULD WANT TO ASK US?
  14. If not MICA, then WHAT
  15. Where do you see yourself 5/10/20 yrs from now...
  16. Any other calls you have got/ converted? Why do you want to choose MICA over those institutes
  17. How do you think MICA will help you achieve your career goals.

Being nervous is perfectly fine, as long as it doesn't interfere with your selection chances...Depending on how you take it,it can either make you sweat profusely or fill you up with a weird-feeling energy...
Or can make you come up with pathetic analogies as the above...:-/ (excuse me for the same but guess have made my point)

So basically, it's how you perceive it and USE it...

Humor of course, as has been mentioned before, can be your ideal companion in the process but dun' force it...They do appreciate the humor Quotient but aren't really looking for a Russell Peters wannabe...So use it intelligently...and if required...

I feel MOTIVATION's the key in the final stages when your nerves refuse to behave soberly...so here's something that (hopefully) should pep you up and calm those rebel nerves...

Life at MICA
MICA- Palaash

P.S.: I ain't an ex-MICAN; nor am I in the GE-PI stage, just going through the "Freak-I-Screwed-Up-Again_What-NOW" Phase...

Excuse me for postin' this message (if u did mind my postin' it)

P.P.S: Ignore the previous line...

Cheers Again For Your Call...
Nail It!!!

Day 2 and still no GE/PI posts...disappointed
Well....can any one (who has got spot offer) please care to share your SOP over here....I am having trouble to write the first word in my SOP

Here's my experience.

GE/PI Call - April 3rd

The whole process was very good and made us all feel very comfortable. After this, if anyone was still tensed, that should just be because they had preplanned it. The GE/PI process started not too long after we reached the campus.

1. GE - It was same as Sukhda. Create a wall page for the year 2025. Show 5 features and give it a name. But unlike Sukhada, I didn't know anyone in my team beforehand, so the first 2 mins was spent on understanding how to deal with this team. But they were all great when it came to creativity and execution. I did my bit by giving the base idea for the page. I guess, the judges were observing one's thoughts and how they put it on the table. Also important was completing the task and presenting it. Although we could incorporate only 4 features, still we had done a good job and were able to deliver it as a package. So i guess the absence of the 5th feature wasn't much of an issue

2. The loooooooooooong wait - Made lots of friends, thanks to our LabRats FB group chitchat that we started some 2 weeks back. Again I should mention how neatly MICA arranged the whole process. The last thing that anyone had in their mind was tension. And the food during lunch was awesome. And they say its like that all through the year

3. PI- I am an Iyer from Kolkata. So naturally the first question was regarding the inconsistency. I thanked all the gods as this is where I turn the interview in whatever direction I want. I spoke a lot about "Cross cultural sensitivity" and knowing 4 different languages and being to adapt with any Indian. They brushed it off with an "oh.. ok!". Next, I am 3yrs exp in IT. So the next natural question was, why MBA after 4 years( i worked full time during 4th year in college)? After this was the much awaited WHY MICA? I have been preparing this since I filled up the MICAT form and this is what one of the panelists said - "I am not convinced" :nono: I was stubborn and stuck to my point and said, "Sir, this is how it is for me". Then came the media and advertising related questions. If you watch TV, you should be good here.

Overall, my PI was very chilled out, more of a discussion and less of a grilling session, like 2 other panels.

4. Final Result - Waitlisted. Will get to know on 17th. 11 spot offers and 10 waitlists in all for the day.

Message to fellow aspirants - eat something before you get into the MICA bus as they dont give breakfast and lunch is at 1pm. Be relaxed. Nothing to worry about. Be the way you are. Putting up something will just get you into trouble. Try to get to know your peers before the GE(perhaps something like the FIRST DAY FIRST SHOW LABRATS group in FB )
