I'm starting this thread for all aspirants of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahemadabad(The School of Ideas) or MICA for the year 2011

Much has been discussed on Pagalguy over the years about MICA and the aura of creativity associated with. I myself am desperate for this B-school; and likewise we have other puys who are trying to get through:)

To all those who will be new to this idea, I discovered that there are two steps to get into this institute.

1, Knowing about MICA and its courses, and how it is a different B-school altogether followed by checking your heart and capabilities; whether you want to join such an institute or not! i.e. Deciding to go for it!!

And the tough one,
2, Proving your mettle(rather craziness, enthusiasm and out-of-box thinking capabilities) to the faculty at MICA via MICAT and GE/PI

Step 1 can be overcome by a bit of research right here on PG. Step 2 is what we will be working for on this thread..

like many people out there,I am one of the hardcore MICA aspirant - I wish to puruse Marketing Research. I am waiting to hear from MICA about admission process for 2011-13. I wish MICA considers XAT scores along with CAT or GMAT. Perhaps,MICA may baffle us with a its own test - MICAT.
Lets keep the ball rolling!

Should I choose MICA over ____ ?

As for choosing MICA over any other insti. Well, depends. Fact one, you're likely to get a better ROI somewhere else (Like FMS - unbeatable on this front!). Fact two: You WILL end up in the communications field, and if you have doubts about it, then you'll seriously need to think. I can't offer opinions here - it's your personal choice. I've heard of people ditching IIM calls for MICA.

People say you need to be extremely passionate about this field to be a part of it. More than that, I'd say confidence in your abilities, and an idea of what you want to do.

Choosing MICA over some other insti, most likely an IMI, IMT, NMIMS level college (no offence - these are amazing instis in their own right) is a very personal choice and can't be generalized.

But answer this quiz and give yourself 1 point for every 'yes':

1. Money is fine - but show me someplace where I can work with passion!
2. I want to work with crazy Creatives and the types and not be bothered about office attire
3. I know who Piyush Pandey is.
4. I have a favourite ad, and it's not because it's *funny* :razz:
5. I don't wanna be a part of the general flow!
6. I'm willing to take the risk and do something very specialized, confident knowing it will offer me returns other than monetary.

If you score more than 3, seriously consider MICA.

PS- I contacted Chuck;a generous reply. He says would love to help, but for time constraints:-( We completely understand sir! And hope someday we get as busy as you are(atleast presently we do):biggrin: so just trying to keep the spirit alive, and waiting for MICA seniors to respond

I took MICAT this year
Really struggled with the GK section. More of business world/ads/media knowledge. Though I'm following the aforementioned in my prep honestly, still.. I hav no answers for those kind of questions. Some exact Gyan?

PS- Before the disaster, I considered my GK to be gooooood :biggrin:

As far as I can recollect, MICAT 2010 had questions covering marketing, advertising, general awareness, etc. I didn't really prepare for the GK section as such, it was more of reading newspaper on daily basis, and keeping abreast with happenings in the global environment.

MICAT 2011 on Feb 27 :clap::cheerio::w00t:


Mudra Institute of Communication Ahmedabad (MICA) has announced the date of the MICAT 2011 exam. MICAT 2011 is likely to be held on Sunday, February 27, 2011.Prof. Shubhra P Gaur, the faculty in charge of conducting MICAT said, "The likely date of MICAT is Sunday, February 27, 2011."


Like last year, this year too, MICA will not accept the CAT exam scores. Confirming this, Prof. Gaur mentioned, "MICAT 2011 will continue to be an independent Admission Test for entrance to MICA."


Prof. Gaur mentioned that the official notification for MICAT 2011 will be out in September 2010. Talking about the other important dates of the exam, Prof. Gaur informed that the application process of MICAT will start from September 2010 and will end on Saturday, January 15, 2011. The GE and PI will be held in the end of March or the beginning of April, 2011. The final results are expected by April end or May first week.

hey,thats interesting news! I embrace it! but waiting for the official news from MICA website. .Seems like MICA is convinced with the admission process for 2010-2012, i.e CAT scores(if available) obtained by a significant number of people who finally got admitted in MICA-2010 was atleast 90 percentile(MICA's pre-requisite in 2009).In Other words, MICAT serves the purpose for testing skills which CAT normally does.
I only wish MICA provides additional test centers like Pune,Hyderabad where there are large number of students residing.

1. What was the difficulty level of QA and DI in MICAT 2010?
2. Am not from engineering/technical background....i have a humanities degree and a pg diploma in journalism...will this affect my chances?
3. My scores in 12th std are poor...will this affect my chances?(more so bcoz my scores in 10std are above avg...it shows an inconsistency)
4. Is there any link to MICAT 2010 Paper download
5. And most importantly...How exactly is the Psychometric part of Micat evaluated?(coz it appears to be highly subjective)

+;Technical background means to nothing @ MICA.

I've heard MICA gives spot offers... and spot rejects. So it probably comes down to the GE/PI once ur thru MICAT. But still, for the academic profile part, I think we should wait for seniors' opinion.
