Point taken. I would try to give 30~45 mints daily even if it means cutting down on my sleep and 3~4 hours on weekends. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Five Things You Must Check out before You Buy A Guitar
1. Buying a guitar is a small investment, not only regarding money, but also regarding the hopes you put into it. Buying the first guitar shall be done with some care. If you are initiating into this instrument, a bad guitar will not allow you to develop your skills properly, you will not be able to produce good sound out of it and it will make your loose enthusiasm soon. Yet, you don’t need to buy an expensive one to begin with, you just need to assure that your guitar counts with certain features that will result in a better sound.

There are five things you must check out before you buy a guitar so as to avoid wasting money and being disappointed later:
1) For a beginner, a nylon string acoustic guitar is the most suitable one since the nylon strings are easier for the fingers of the inexperienced player. Given some time and much practice you will be prepared to move to steel string. The lower tension of the nylons strings and the fact that they are thicker than steel ones will prevent cutting your fingertips

2) Verify that the guitar has “low action”. The action refers to the distance between the frets and strings and it must be low, which lets you play faster and easier since a high action (more distance) will demand more strength from your left hand, will diminish the accuracy of it and will make your hand get tired sooner. So check that the saddle is not too high. Nylon string guitars usually allow a low action.

3) Make sure that the neck of the guitar is straight and is not warped at all otherwise it will be hard to play it and quite impossible to fix. To check the straightness of the guitar, place it in front of you, resting the body on the ground and look down all along the neck.

4)Determine the size of the guitar you will purchase. Basically you will have three sizes to choose. Nylon string ones come in three sizes, and size is determined by the body size, neck size and string length. The smaller size (1/2) is recommended for children aged 4-9, medium size (3/4) is suitable for most children between 9-12 and full size (4/4) is suitable for teens and adults.

5)Ask for a bridge that is glued to the front and not fixed with metallic screws since having metallic screws that will make the sound vary a lot and won’t allow a proper learning process.

Of course, besides taking these considerations you must in every case hold the guitar in your arms, feel comfortable with it and like it. You will spend hours holding the instrument close to you.

Finally, went to olx and searched for guitars in my present city, called them and purchased :)

Givson - Acoustic is my first Guitar.
I dont have time to go for classes. How can I learn on my own - I can devotee time only on sat n sundays and max. 1 hour on weekdays. What are the sites which I can start with?

First question that u need to ask from urself - are u ready for 2-year break? How about other things in ur life? are they ready to take a backseat? are u ready to compromise on opportunity cost?

Answer to this question is influenced by many factors :

If evreything is fine, then u need to understand that in 2-year program, there would be very less people of your age-group, but yes, people do go for 2-year MBA after 5 ~ 6 years of experience. While in 1-year, though u would be among your age-group, but there would be some other challenges. Likewise, 2-year n 1-year program has its own good and bad points.

Next, What college do you choose? Criteria is going to be an important indication of what you should go for. Definition of "Decent" college would be different for different people. This needs to be chosen very carefully depending on your career choices, ur background and college you get a call from. Your question is very subjective and you need to factor-in pros and cons of both sides before choosing.

This forum is perfect for these kind of discussions. I am glad that you asked this question. IN the end, it is a matter of your career, whole life and it is better to ask, get clarified and take a right decision than to shy away, and take a wrong decision.
