1.How many sections are the students divided into and on what basis,Please don't take it otherwise(Just Curious and trying to know the college better,will be able to help others next year)?
.Can a student enter a particular club in the first year itself?

@Mithles - Bhai, chill . Don't be so fastidious types , take a chill pill .Enjoy MBA & LIfe there . Don't lose yourself in rat race :nono:.Leave few things to explore yourself and wait for the time to witness things . Life is beautiful and interesting if there is some unpredictibilty .:):)

had u opted for operations??....bcozthe case discussed above interests me as i have the same liking for IT as u have......i want to specialize in IT want to land up in a IT company with a managerial role which is far away from coding......

but given that the flagship course of GIM is HR and that there is no separate specialization for IT will opting for Operations give me the profile that i desire??

@jadhavsiddhesh -> HR is not the flagship program of GIM . Nothing like that . I had Fin as Majors and Ops as minors . To get into ERP profiles into IT company you don't need to have Ops as Majors .Even fin/Marketing guys also get into ERP profile as there are various modules in ERP (SAP /Oracle ) . So don't bother about it write now. Go through first year of MBA and you will come to know which subjects to choose as Majors.

Can any of the seniors give an answer to my query above?

The problem is that if its difficult to place students with heavy work-ex then i am most concerned about that as my each and everything will be ON LOAN
i mean each bit of expense i do fees,hostel everything.

It is not that people with higher worx-ex don't get placed .They do . If your case is considered , don't get worried . There are people from Erikson who have gone to IT companies .Also people from manufacturing have gone to IT or FIN or Marketing . But the switch is not that easy cos companies come with specific requriement . And as per my observation it is a bit difficult for IT people to move to other domains easily while non-IT ( Telecom ,Manufacturing etc ) it is somewhat easier . The reason is the number of people . If you look at the profile of people who enter into B-schools, many of them are from IT background .So all don't get chance to switch domain while few get . And as for non-IT people it becomes somewhat easier as there is not much competition among people.

Hope it soothes your nerves . NO need to panic . Coming to telecom company last year Vodafone came to campus but it was for marketing profile .

What has been the normal salary figure for placements this year ? I know the market is a bit down but does the future look bright ?

Also, since I have IT experience and want to do marketing, is it possible to get an IT+marketing role ?

You can refer to director's report for the figure and what is stated there is true .Avg is around some 7.77 and median 8 . And i can't figure out what you mean by IT+Marketing role exactly ? If you mean pre-sales or Marketing analytics Yes companies liek HP and Wipro offer that profile .

@flying desires - We can't predict the future . The placements of your batch and your seniors batch will depend on lot of factors like economic condition at that time and the batch profile . Coming to data being true provided in the prospectus or the report : it is 100% correct for our 09-11 and 10-12 batch . The figures about median and average are true and not fudged. So , don't worry about that we communicate what we have and know .

Second point which you mentioned is true to some extent. There are people who went at lower pacakages than they had before coming to MBA (not from GIM but from others also ) but it happens in long run say down the line 10 years . I would say that pacakge is not everything LIfe in a B-school is altogther a different experience : Bitter and Sweet . I know you are most bothered about placements as of now .It matters but it is not the ONLY thing which matters.
