I attended the welcome session of SBS this weekend and am fully impressed....now i trying to arrange funds (since by the time i applied to SBS all the schols were gone and I didn't get any ).....so if i can arrange the fund....i am going for SBS !!

Well I am not sure if you would get an unbiased reply on this thread.
There are other threads which discuss MBA from UK on PG.

My 2 cents would be with Oxford, for its brand. Also many people have told me that with UK still not out of recession, the job scenario is okay only for LBS and OxBridge. But again, since I am not an expert and also that I have an admit at Oxford, please take what I say with a pinch of salt.

How many have had to return back to India because of job scarcity?

Though the exact information you ask for is not available with me, I do know that in 2010 batch, 85% of the batch got placed within 3 months of graduation. I do not have a breakup by nationality as Oxford would never provide such an information. I do not know of anyone who came back to India to work though a few went to USA / Singapore.

This year the markets are way better than last year and in the coming batch (which would be my batch) we *expect* the markets to be even better. Fingers crossed!

Job scenario is bad for people trying to make a drastic career shift. If you plan to continue in the same industry then the situation is quite good.

An oxford alumnus recently gave me an analogy: "Assume u r the hiring manager in Mumbai... n u have 2 equally qualified candidates, one from India, and one from UK, whom would you hire?"... without going into the nuances of profile and all, we concluded that it is more likely to hire an Indian (and I do not necessarily mean a localite from Mumbai)... now add a language barrier too... say a qualified person from France... the chances for him are a bit lower...

So now what is in for us I asked him. And he said that we need to add such things to our profile, which would help us have an edge even over the localite in UK or France. Fluency in french is just one of the things... Also you need to start to know about the French ways, their basic etiquette... even if you are not necessarily in a customer facing role... still u would need to interact with a lot of French in your company, or even do some customer research (without meeting them face to face), make predictions about the French market... the list is long...

And trust me it is NOT an impossible task to accomplish... And many Indians have done well... In fact a close friend of mine went to IE B-school in Spain last year, and even amidst all the recession there, he has landed up with a decent job... n 1 year ago, he knew basic Spanish... but before joining the course, he had learnt a lot about spanish and spain... even their traditional dance forms... (and I have not exaggerated here 1 bit )

Arm and prepare yourself for the worst, and I am sure, u will land up with a job in any country u desire..

And I do remember all our discussions and that is why I had earlier attributed the success to you. Your guidance was really helpful and you dont need to be modest about it

Yes reason to party. Anytime when you are in Delhi, the treat is on me (m on a medical leave in lucknow as of now... you would know - infected sebaceous cyst / abscess which needed a minor surgery)

I havent applied to tier 1 schools only coz i am not sure about the Msc degree in comparison to an MBA .... dunno how much indian companies value it .....so i was thinking of compromising wid the ranking of the college and do an MBA rather than Msc ....but i still need experienced people to suggest me whats better amongst the 2 options ....

I am assuming that your experience is quite low and hence you are even talking about M.Sc.
My advice would be an MBA from a good b-school, be it in India or anywhere else in the world. The brand name of LBS, Oxford and Cambridge would help you secure a job in all parts of the world.

What about the other Tier-1 schools... that I listed in my previous posts? Have you applied... as yet? If Not.. then Rush & start applying ASAP.

I totally second Dr. Saurabh's statement above. Why have you not considered the Tier-1 schools? From purely job security point of view in the UK, they offer a much safer haven than any Tier-2 school. I do understand that a few tier-2 schools do specialize in a certain domain, which our Doctor has illustrated throughout this thread, but from a complete package perspective, there should be no reason from giving Tier-1 schools a miss.

No, I don't know French , but I am ready to put in some extra efforts to learn it .After all a new language will be an added advantage ( I hope ) .I know it would be difficult , but it could be done .I have got a call from Rouen Business school .The school is good in the sense that the placement stats are good over there .A lot of companies visit the school for placements.

Ok , now coming to the new UK Visa rules.Yes advantages are there , but still the situation has become difficult.I have an admit from Nottingham & hoping to convert Strathclyde .The schools are good , but they are not the best in the UK.They are not in the LBS , Oxford , Manchester & CASS leagues.Now , recruiters would be skeptical of picking up non-EU graduates .They might only prefer candidates from these top B schools.

I know I am sounding a bit negative, but this is the case.

What are your thoughts ?

And just to add, if you want to become fluent in French, please start now because the MBA course is very very intensive and you might not be able to spare too much time once you join the b-school. hope this helps!
