People I just want to add something to the discussion. If anyone thinks people are born intelligent, no one is bigger fool than himself. Everyone has same brain made of same material, DNA is different which may impact to an extent. I want to tell you something, few days back there are 10th results were out in AP, the pass %ge is 86% i.e. 86/100 got passed..what happened is there a miracle ? is everyone these days born in AP with a diff brain ? No, the awareness among people went up, more primary education is going to villages, they were taught properly..the govt since we became independent relied on poverty, ignorance of people, their thinking is if everyone is educated, we can't come to power after looting as they will know all rules in constitution and demand their rights.
In short point is nobody is dumb by birth, their upbringing, education and their own interest makes the person.

To all the intelligent witty people here.

If you have a problem with Indian education system

1) Fight with it and make your way through
2) Change the system

or the best alternative

3) Please leave the country. You deserve America!

Yes I said they are overrated because there are probably 2000 seats for 2 lakh aspirants and every other institute is looked on perception as zero making it a binary system 0/1. That's why you have remaining 198000 students feeling they are very substandard compared to 2000 people. If you have more such institutes this imbalance will not happen. Read my 2nd post I am not questioning quality of IIM / IIT.

How is Rakhi Sawant underrated ? She is providing entertainment to crores of people in her own way. If she is underrated and you and I would not know of rakhi sawant.

I am not saying there is no quality in IIM / IIT, I am saying for a $1.8 trillion economy, with growth rate of 10% (second fastest on planet) and 1 billion ppl, having just 15 -20 institutes is horrible and pathetic, its not like India as a country is poor, people are poor but country is not. The lack of supply is causing heavy distortion in market.. just look at this USA with 30 cr ppl have more than 2000 universities and any thing in top 100 -150 is respectable. The government policy on lack of education spend is root of this

LOL..not that I had gnanoday..just putting a valid point..middle class ppl and common junta force their kids to treat these exams as some life / death for their kid, I believe its just education, have seen enough in world to know fate determines more in one's life

IIM's and IIT's are waaaay over rated because of pure demand supply mismatch and monopoly, you cannot have 10 -15 colleges for 1 billion people, it just does not work. This has made entrance exams like CAT, JEE, GATE have perceptions among common people like some life-changing-exam.
IMHO no 3 hour exam is life-changing / should be used to filter people on massive scale, I am sure lakhs of people equal to or more worthy of people studying at these colleges failed those exams. Because of this artificial demand, new industry popped up "coaching institutes" just to crack these exams. Anyway, point is the lack of institutes and huge population are causing this perception, case in point - kellogs starts ISB and look what happened..LoL..
