Well...my first job was as close as possible to enterpreneurship...and based on that I can say that if you want to do MBA and then open your own business, then don't do it...its a waste of 2 years..
Let me explain...
If you get into a decent business school..then it would make sense to work for 4-5 years (and gain some valuable experience) and then start your own business.
If you get into a lower ranked one, you would be just mugging up different books. (you can purchase them on your own and learn a lot yourself)
Also, in bschool you would learn stuff like global business strategy etc etc, which you wouldn't need in the first 4-5 years of your business.

Rather, you would have to learn how to approach vendors, customers etc etc - which is something that you would only figure out by doing - not by getting a MBA degree. Similarly planning, management and eye for detail - these are something that you acquire by experience - not something that you can learn.

Also, if you really wanna start your own business - I would sugest that you go through different enterpreneurship case studies. They would help you a lot in understanding what are some of the problems that a new business faces.

The purpose of my post is to share some experience and I would really appreciate to answer any of you queries.
Life is a journey of different paths. I started to ask myself about what will happen to me after college. Well, I was a scholar and a bank job was just waiting for me after graduation. Many years went by and I was feeling that I was lost in a huge and structured organization. I told my intention to change my job but my parents were totally unhappy, they always had this mindset of having a well paid job in a bank is the thing, and it made them proud. But yet my inner self was pushing me out and subsequently I got another job offer in a manufacturing company.
Many years went by again swiftly and that was the moment I realized I have to do something which is self fulfilling. I came to realize, somehow that being an entrepreneur is one of the good steps towards self fulfillment. But how could I be an entrepreneur, when I have no knowledge, resources or guidance.

Something happen which transformed my whole life. It didnt happen in a sudden like what we see in the movies, but a realization which affected my feeling, then gradually I took actions towards what I want in life. I saw many of my friends were out of jobs in the economic crisis and their employers have no mercy although they were loyal, hardworking and top performers in their fields. The sad part is seeing family break-ups due to marital problem and suffering endeavored during this period. These are hard hitting actual facts of life which some people go through in their lives.

I have posted this about a month before but did not get any definite answers. Maybe some one can answer me now:

1. I wanted to know what is the significance of the State Lists in the Central Lists of OBCs. In the list here:

CENTRAL LIST OF OTHER BACKWARD CLASSES

the castes have been put into different state lists - is it just for the convenience of the people to browse through? Can a person residing in one state get an OBC certificate for a caste which is mentioned under OBC for another state? For example, if a person is residing in Andhra Pradesh (mentioned likewise in the cert), and his/her caste is mentioned in the Karnataka list, if he/she gets a certificate for this in AP, will this be a problem?

2. Also, I wanted to know about spelling considerations. If there is a slight difference in the spelling between the certificate and the list, will the certificate lose its value?

Can anyone answer my doubt please - There is a spelling mismatch (just one silent letter) between my caste in the NCBC list and my certificate. However, the pronunciation is the same. Will it have issues in the verification?

I seem to be selected only when SR is written in Capitals. This was an issue when we got calls as well. Just wanted to check if its still the same.

Also, I remember reading 22 months as minimum for Laterals at IIM B. Is that the right number? Need to know this to put in my papers as I am done with only 21 months now.

You are right about both your questions - I read in this thread by some seniors that 22 months is a sacrosanct time period.

Even i tried with sr instead of SR - then it said 'Sorry' but with caps they are congratulating me
