    Hi,
Interesting discussion! I have a query regarding how easy/ difficult it is for a person working in a kpo to shift to front end..is it difficult even if he is working in one of the better one's ?like Lehman, BOA, Deutsche kpo or Irvena or adeventity...i have heard though u r in the backend u do learn a lot ...and several people from these kpo's working on equity research , credit research, i banking have moved to the front end and have joined the front end of organizaions like HDFC sec, ICICI Sec etc...Does working in a relatively good kpo on a relatively better profile ensure that you get a good front end job in 2-3 years??

Will Hogwarts re-open? Will the trio take classes? Who will be Head Boy/Girl? Will the Death Eaters attack Privet Drive? Will they attack the wedding? Why did Dumbledore trust Snape? Will Snape be redeemed? What about Draco? Is Nagini a Horcrux? Is Harry a Horcrux?
... and - oh yes, who is going to survive this grand adventure? ..leta see who gets the best scores.... Remember, this isn't your average WOMBAT or OWL-level challenge. The Divination Quiz is NEWT-level, and may be your last chance to show the world your HP foresight!

I just finished Khaled Hosseini'e new book ' A Thousand Splendid Suns' and in one word the book is 'Brilliant'....If you have read kite runner ...you will love the book....if not better read it:satisfie:
The book is predictably set in Afganistan...It describes the story of two women using the volatile events that have happened in Afganistan in the past as a back drop... It is a tale of two generations of characters brought jarringly together by the tragic sweep of war, where personal lives-the struggle to survive, raise a family, find happiness-are inextricable from the history playing out around them. He does it again...it is never easy to write a good follow up book after a bookm that is as remarkable as the kite runner...but Hosseini does move you with his writings...the bond between Mariam and Laila the principle characters is beautifully brought out...The anti-Soviet jihad, civil war and Taliban tyranny are depicted beautifully through the lives of these 2 women...As always the quotes are brilliant ...if it was : "A thousand times over " in the Kite Runner....here there are plenty....in fact the title it self is borrowed from an ode to the city Kabul..."One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls." ....highly recommended

            Dear radioson@pro,
Reading your post I get the feeling that a disgruntled student who has not got the placement he desired is venting his frustration .....do you blame the college if you don't get your desired job?....I strongly believe that any B SCHOOL is as good as you are....If you didn't get the job you desired, you should be asking why it didn't happen to yourself rather than blame all and sundry. I am not a student of Sydenham...but looking at their placement report I find it difficult to believe that you didn't get enough opportunities to sit for a good company....regarding the syllabus...it is a known fact that the MMS syllabus is slightly outdated...hence the onus is on the student to read as much as possible and update himself. It is very easy to blame all and sundry, but a wiser thing would be to introspect...I have a friend at sydenham who passed out this year and is extremely well placed with an enviable package...Bad mouthing the college is an extremely cowardly choice...Also I am highly sceptical about some of your claims:
            1) How can the friends of people in the placement committee get the best packages?....you think the company recruiting is so naive that they would hire someone just because that person is a friend of a placement committee member?
2)Regarding timings....my cousin passed out of a premier B school last year and he felt that the best learning happens not in the classroom but how much time you spend reading, researching and interacting with your peers..in fact if there is a gap between lectures one can make great use of the time to add value to one's self.....This has been stated by various people at different times..." A B school is not a placement agency," if you expect that just by landing at a Bschool you would get a comfortable package after 2 years you are mistaken....this is just my opinion ..no personal issues and one question to you :" What did you do in the two years you were at the institute to improve the situation?"....

Interesting thoughts raven...yet you don't have an alternative to democracy...Just because some leaders are bad ..that doesn't mean democracy as a system is bad...Democracy today faces several challenges in India..Looking at the election results it is fair to ask questions like:
                  1) Are we really in a democracy or are we just voting for "the hier to the throne"? ..i am refering to ofcourse dynasty politics
                  2) Does a good, educated person really win an election?...manmohan singh one of the most well respected primeministers had to be elected to parliament via the loksabha
3)Does the young ,well educated, english speaking , metro bred....we who are supposed to be the backbone of the knowledge and entreneurial economy have a voice to represent us in parliament?
4)Why do criminals like Raja bhaiya or Amar mani Tripati win elections?

The problems with democracy are excessive and we are really kidding ourselves if we say that " our's is the greates democracy in the world"

But are there any alternatives?... Someone referred to Monarchy/dictatorship....Is dictatorship better ? no way....The problem is that we are taking the fundamental rights that we have for granted...
My grand parents were in uganda when that horrible dictator idi amin was drunk with power..they had to leave everything and come back ...the stories about idi amin that my grandfather recollects makes my blood boil with anger.
India has seen a side of dictatorship during times of emergency...ask anyone how it was during an emergency and you will know...our fundamental rights : the right to equality, freedom, cultural and education rights, rights against exploitation make democrcay work....Dr Ambedkar wrote " Democracy is essentially a form of society , not a form of government"... so rather than blaming democracy for our ills let us look at ourselves and what we can do to reform the society that we live in....

....Does democracy work? like everything it depends....in a democracy the obvious advantage is that the power is with the people...take the recent up elections ...people voted out mulayam ...a leader may be intoxicated with power but finally he is accountable to people....that's why democracy works better than any dictatorship as the leader knows he has to face elections in 5 years.....the arguements against democracy are famous...criminals are voted to power, people vote on the basis of caste, relegion etc
...but the right to freedom that one enjoys in a democracy makes it the best possible form of government...churchill's second quote sums it up brilliantly

An Interesting thing about horcruxes which i read somewhere: let's look at the definition of a horcrux given by slughorn:

"Well, you split your soul, you see, and hide part of it in an object outside the body. Then, even if one's body is attacked or destroyed, one cannot die, for part of the soul remains earthbound and undamaged." -

If we take this to mean that killing and creating a Horcrux splits the soul in two, there are two halves to Voldemort's soul when he creates his first Horcrux -- half within his own body and half within the Horcrux. So when he creates the next one, he only has half of a soul to use. If this is split into half, there's now a quarter of his soul in his body and in the Horcrux, respectively. For the third, it's 1/8 each, and so on. When all is said and done, there are six Horcruxes. And at the creation of the last one, possibly Nagini, creator and created are each left with one 1/64 of Voldemort's original soul. Not 1/7.
Now, if we take all of this into consideration, what does it all mean?

1 Are the earlier Horcruxes stronger because they contain more of Voldemort's soul?
2 If so, has Harry finished with the hard part of destroying the Horcruxes?
3 Will Harry have to face Voldemort in the end with 1/64 of his soul, or will there be more of it there?
