another question. do subjects like emotional intelligence,NLP(neuro linguistic programming) also role of justice in an organization and society ...part of Hr field? because they interest me immensely

Yes, they do. However, many of these subjects could be electives that may or may not be offered every year. Moreover, there would be many other 'dull' subjects like Microeconomics, Basics of Finance, Labour Laws etc. that you'd have to study. So, please don't let the lure of 1-2 interesting subjects make your decision.

Im in a bit of a dilemma. I just gave my gd/pi for xl-hrm and it went pretty well. I am sure i want to do mba this year but I am confused where to go. I have already converted scmhrd and awaiting results such as NM,iit delhi etc. also have a gd/pi call from MICA. The problem is I am not sure which stream I want to do in my mba at this stage. I am not too sure where my interests lie. So in case I do convert my xl call i wont know what to do because the branding is huge. The advice I usually get is that I should try and find out what I want to do. But so many options leaves me confused. How do I find out if HR is really meant for me??Any suggestions/criticism is welcome:)

When I go shopping for shoes, I have huge brands like Adidas, Reebok and Nike to choose from? Which one is bigger? Which one offers more value for money? Which one has a higher cost-benefit ratio? Shall I ask my friends for advice?

No real point in opting for a brand, if it doesn't seem like the right 'fit'. And fit is well, subjective. You need to take a call on that, by weighing all the factors important to you. (I don't know if this helps, but this is what my take is all about.:thumbsup:)

I haven't finalized upon a specialization yet...could you please suggest whether HR is a good option to study...what is the scope for guys in that specialization? Is there enough growth in this field??

I'm assuming that you have access to Google (and/or any other search engine). The dark ages are over. There are no male/female bastions in HR.

I actually wanted to know about the certification courses offered by SHRM. I have a work ex. of 2 years at Hewitt Associates in HR Compensation. I wanted to go for the PHR (Professional in Human Resources) course. How useful is this course in the industry. Besides, I am also keen on doing my MBA in HR too. So like would it have some value addition to my existing profile. Looking forward for a reply.

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but well, I'll try since I was looking at something like this too. My research indicates that if you're looking at jobs in India, PHR may not be all that great. However, these certifications are valued abroad. Moreover, in countries abroad, getting recertified (which is mandatory to keep your certification alive) is considerably easier, because of opportunities available.

i have this big obsession with doing Phd in my life.i have always wanted to be a think tank,expert and thus be an change agent of an organization and society at large....should i mention in my interview that i want to do phd? if yes how should i justify it.

It's a great thought that you want a PhD. However, if I were an interview panelist, I'd like to know how serious you really are about it. Hence, I suggest going prepared with:

a) Which subject or domain area would you base your research in? (You don't have to have a concrete plan here, but just sharing some of your interest areas within HR may be useful.)
b) The fact that there are many areas of HR that remain nebulous and vague, and need further research - both qualitative and quantitative.
c) Some information on key HR innovations in the last 20-30 years. (Read a bit about Ulrich, Hamel, Senge etc.)
d) Explore the link between HR and other functions like marketing and strategy.

Since you talk of being a change agent, why specifically PhD?

I have always been fascinated by recruiters , the onboarding Team at work which was the team i first met wen i joined .. i m wonderin how can this be the only reason to pursue HRM
but wen I ask myself why HR when there are so many other domains i am not able to justify my answer ..
can you guys please let me know wat it is to be an HR ? wat are the different areas one can specialise in?
is HR the only option of gettin into Management .. wat are the other management courses that can be done ??
