I converted the MIT 04 call and it really feels great.

Have some doubts, it would be nice if u guys can answer them

1. Should AICTE approval bother us? Is the final merit list the final say and can we rely on that to put down our papers in our respective companies?
   
2. Although this course is different from the normal IM course, why is that we dont have any electives?
   
3. As per your thinking, how useful do you find the MIT degree? Has the MIT part of course as interesting as the SPJIMRs part?
   
4. Do you believe that the placement figures of MIT 03 batch will be as per industry standards and we wont see a big gap between MIT and normal course? (Bcoz last time figure says PGDBM avg 11 lakhs, MIT avg 6.5 lcs)
   
5. How about internships? I have heard as you guys have a different calendar hence internships become an issue as most companies have a different calendar for internships
   
6. What about foreign placements? Is there any chance for you guys to have them? Considering the fact that FMS (MS) is having foreign placements (Dont get me wrong, Im not comparing both of them)
   
7. What about job profiles? Do you think ur batch will have more diverse profiles this year? Let say strategy and consulting
   
8. What about our alumni? What kind of help are you getting from them? Are they making a good name for you in the industry? Are you having good interaction with them?
   
9. Your achievements speak a lot for you ans so do you think that MIT has finally tipped? Has it reached its tipping point?

Please respond to the queries... I'm sure others also have similar kind of queries

Hi Nishant,

I would try to reply to few of your queries:

1. Don't worry about AICTE approval . SPJIMR is in the process of getting approval for PGDSM MIT program and would be getting it soon. Yes you can put down your papers in your cos. on the basis of merit list. I hope by the time you view this message you would have received the official mail from SPJ also.

2. Course is structured as per the industry needs . However at any point of time if academic committee (comprised of students) feels that some course should be added in the academic curicullum then SPJ admin provides full support for that. But its upto the academic committee how they present the proposal of course addition to the admin which should be convincing enough.

3. MIT part of course is the main USP of our course. It is through this part that we are able to differentiate ourselves from other b-schools. I believe that PGDSM MIt is the finest systems management program in the country and this is not just a statement but a fact that I have discovered after talking to my friends from other b-schools, corporates and seniors.

4. Since there would be integrated placement for both the courses from now onwards so I believe that upcoming placements would be at par with industry standards. Also please do not forget that 2nd batch of PGDSM MIT had good amount of freshers and most of the placement in IT in other B-Schools are laterals and that too for people havng quite a good amount of work-ex.

5. Autumn internships in SPJ are among the best internship placements that happen in the country. Companies have always been enthusiastic to participate in SPJ's autumn's process. So I don't think there's any truth in the statement that internships have at any point of time became an issue for SPJ.

6. I don't have much info about foreign placements.

7. In terms of roles our seniors were offered diverse profiles. Yes we think that this year we would be having better profiles both in terms of roles and salaries.

8. Our alumni are performing good in the industry. Recently CTS sent appreciation to our college Admin regarding the perfomance of PGDSM MIT first batch. Most of us are in constant touch with them.

9. Not sure how to answer ur last query.:)

Can you clarify a little further on this.. as in.. is there a complete integration of PGDSM with PGDBM that's proposed ?

So next year onwards, there'd be PGDM(Finance), PGDM(Marketing), PGDM(SM), PGDM(IM) and so on ?

Will this also mean that the admission process will be integrated next year onwards or will SPJ still prefer to have different admission process for the two because of the involvement of VT in the PGDSM course ?

Too many questions.. eh ? He he.. just curious about the whole thing..

Hi All,

1. The exact nomenclature is yet to be officially declared by AICTE. It would on the same lines as quoted by Abhinav and Abhishek. So it would be PGDM (SM-MIT). Same holds for other 2 year course.

2. Yes Abhinav Admissions process will be integrated from next year. There would be single form for both the courses.

Abhishek plz add if I have missed something.

1. Will the interview panel comsist of staff from VIT also? (The basis of this question is that in that case, we will make ourselves better prepared for Technical questions)

1. We can not give you any details about our panel. However dont expect any hard core technical questions.

1. PGDSM MIT is a very unique and one of the finest systems management course in the country. The course structure is designed in such a way to suit current industry needs. Therefore this course is finding a ready acceptance by the industry. MIT course, which is highly recognised in USA has been designed by Pamplin College of Business and Virginia Tech Computer Sciences Department.
PGDSM courses are almost the same as of PGDBM (IM) and taught by same faculty. The difference is that the courses are taught with different pitch.

Wanted to know if SPJ is still planning to stick to the original schedule of the foundation course starting on 1st April ? I mean.. with this whole gap between the 1st and the 2nd round, is that gonna be possible ?

Second thing.. how hectic is this foundation course ? Being from an IT engg background I can see two things which probably will be easier for me.. OOD and DB.. Will it be possible to pursue that along with our jobs ? Or will it need full time attention ?

All this is assuming that I get in ! Hooo boy... talk about thinking ahead !!

Hi Abhinav,

1. Yes we might have to postpone the dates of foundation course for the reasons you pointed out in ur post

2. Foundation courses can be done while you are at job. But yes expect to devote some focused hours towards these courses and of course your IT background will always help you in covering IT related foundation courses.

i have got mail for the second round of pgdsm mit selection inspite of my name missing in the merit list displayed on the website.
Can anybody clarify this for me??

1) On the SP Jain website regarding PGDSM MIT (2yrs) course its mentioned:

" The programme leads to....
.... An opportunity for those coming in top 10 percent in class to pursue MBA from Pamplin School of Business (with full scholarships) ranked 21st in US and 32nd the world over"

Can you please throw more light on it?

2) People who had applied for 2 year PGDBM (IM) and were called for first round of GI but not for second round have also been called for second round of PGDSM-MIT irrrespective of the fact weather they had applied for PGDSM-MIT or not.

So Now the Total number of calls would be
PGDSM-MIT Calls Round 2= +177
PGDBM (IM) Calls Round 1= +280
PGDBM (IM) Calls Round 2= -150
TOTAL = 307

Hi Aditya,

1. Students who are in top 10% of PGDSM MIT course can avail a unique oppurtunity to pursue their second MBA from Pamplin College of Business (B-School of Virginia Tech. University). For these students credits of MIT course will be transferred and so they can pursue Pamplin MBA course in just one year instead of 2 years and that too with full scholarship.

2.For the 2nd query, I wont be able to give any confirmation on the numbers provided by you.

hi guys.
I applied for the pgdbm course but am not shorlisted for the second round of the same.
Instead i have recvd a mail for the second round for the pgdsm mit prog.
it isnt a mistake to be clear.
they have asked me to reply if i would be interested and mail back so that they can allot me a date for the same. which would be either 25th or 26th march.
Now the prob is i have it clashing wid my MDI date which had already been re scheduled for the 26th.
Any one else also in the same situation as mine. As in called for a diff course now?
And also does anyone know will they be flexible for dates if i ask them to?
And how good is this pgdsm mit program as compared to the normal program???

Congratulations for getting interview call for the PGDSM MIT course. Regarding the rescheduling of interview dates, I would suggest you to write an email to merchant@spjimr.ernet.in stating your concern. You will get a response from Prof. Merchant within a day or two.

All the three courses viz. PGDSM MIT, PGDBM and PGDM are at equal levels. You can get details about the course on our website.
