No, it wont be a negative. Need not worry.

You can go for certifications as well but they generally happen during a certain window only ( can check from APICS site ) .

Doing them will certainly strengthen your chances.

I have a query. I have 19 months of workex in IT in SCM (i do spare part planning and pricing). As i don't have any work ex in manufacturing/retail will that be a negative during placement seasons? Also am trying to do a certification course in operations. Will it increase my chances??? Please help !!!

Your first target should be to ace SNAP. The GE-PI will follow once U clear the cut-off & make it to the shortlist. It is very important that U perform equally well in the GE-PI rounds, coz many people with great profiles but poor GE-PI performance got rejection. So its important that U are capable of convincing the panel that u are the right fit for this course. Don't worry avg acads don't play a spoil-sport if U have the caliber. And yes, prior certifications/experience in Operations/SCM always help.
